The jankiness of Gen 1 unironically makes them more fun games to explore and fuck around with than the later titles, primarily the 'Brock Through Walls' glitch which can allow you to start off your game in Celadon with a lvl 25 Eevee for example, which makes for an interesting challenge.

I was spoiled with silky smooth 60fps gameplay and fast battles only for the next gen to struggle to maintain a framerate over 20fps with battles being painfully slow as a result. It's a massive fucking downgrade in performance and all because Game Freak didn't know how to properly optimize the very little 3D that's in Gen 4 to begin with.
