Do you still own your childhood collection?
>>
>>12778716
Sadly not no. But I have re bought it all

It's all bootleg cartridges so it's worth little, but yes.
>>
I have some of it. Most of my SNES stuff for sure.
CD-I, game gear, NES, apple iiGS, and 5170 ibm were thrown out by the parents.
Game boy and collection was sold by my sister to buy weed.
Entire N64 and GameCube collections and consoles were sold by my brother to buy sports tickets that he scalped for profit.
Gave away the PSX, Xbox, PS2 and games years ago in a sort of an heroic moment.
But the trusty SNES lives on. I only game on my desktop now, and I’m fine with that.

Only what I had on Gamecube.
My mom did this really based thing when I turned 18 and had to move out, when I was worried about not being able to take everything with me. She said I could leave stuff behind and it’d be left alone. So I move out and try to return literally days later and every single thing I had left behind was thrown away.
>if you wanted it, you’d have taken it with it
I lost all my NES, SMS, Genesis, N64, GB/GBA, and PS1 stuff.
>>
>>12778716
None of those were yours and you are not a woman.

OP did not present it that way. It’s got a filename that indicates he got the pic on the web. If he wanted to pretend it’s him, he would’ve spoofed a standard iPhone or Android image file name (a thing you can do to mess with people).

It is the one that hurt the most, for sure. And it was the most recent one. Parents cleaned out their storage shed during covid and I found out weeks later they tossed it into a big metal dumpster. It still worked and had the original monitor, floppy drives, keyboard, and mouse. Fucking damnit, that was the first computer I ever used, and 2nd thing I gamed on after NES. I need to take a deep breath and calm myself.

No I sold all of it. Emulation is fine with scratching that retro itch for me. Any time I think about playing "authentically" I just think of the hundreds of dollars I don't have that I'd have to spend just for the sake of nostalgia.

Only the good stuff, I traded or sold off anything I didn't like and if I really ever wanted to play it again I would just emulate. Except the PSX games I had over 100 games all stolen by a crackhead my aunt was dating at the time. I got him back by stealing thousands of dollars of speakers from him.

And I thought my parents were evil for chasing me outside of our apartment so that "computer could rest" meanwhile our refrigerator has worked since before the fall of Yugoslavia and yet they had no problems with that. Jesus Christ anon. I would have held a petty unreasonable grudge for life if that happened to me.
>>
>>12778716
Some of it. I want to kill myself when I think about all the stuff I sold back in the day though, or traded in to my local game store for peanuts. I had pretty large Saturn and N64 collections at one point, all of which are gone. Same with the Mega Drive and SNES. I kept most of my PS1 and Dreamcast stuff though, along with later consoles.
>>
>>12778716
The only games I still own from my childhood are my very first game - Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, which came with my NES Action Set, and my NES copy of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Yes, PC and console all of it still in box mostly but I got into collecting probably as a late teen and my parents got rid of a few cool things I got from garage sales, a 32X, an Amiga 500 and an NES because they thought it looked like junk because they were opened up and I was doing mods, a neighbor had told them any tech more than 5 years old is junk. I got new ones now. I hope they make more proper repros like the new Neo Geo so more people can get a 2nd chance particularly the 32X.

>>12778871
The GS is harsh, 5170 you can use an 8088 replica laptop, Game gear half of them are broken, NES you can get a cheap famicom with adaptor. CD-i I have but never got it working so don't know but doesn't feel that special.

>>12778778
Boomers yeah. I had a huge PC collection in boxes to protect them I gutted them all and folded them flat so I could about 50 in a single cupboard to hide it from them. Not really worth anything but I think its much more important to preserve them possibly for replication in the future.

>>12784618
You would just use a flashcart anyway probably, sure its cool to read the manuals.
>>
Lost NES and Game Boy to damages in moves, SNES and PS1 are still in my collection, all the games were sold some 10 years ago, just use flash carts and ODE's or burnt CD's now. The only retro game I actually still own is currently in possession of my best friend, and he's 3,000 miles away.
>>
>>12786956
>The only retro game I actually still own is currently in
Well, what game is it that you decided to not sell?
>>
>>12778716
Have my original NES, Genesis, PS1, and PS2. still have all of the games for the sony consoles. Sold about half of the genesis games to buy the ps1 back in the day but since rebought all those sold carts on ebay and a few others i rented back in the day. Have like half of the original NES stack but a few carts got tossed out by my parents by accident (RIP battletoads and Super mario 2)
>>
>>12778716
No, I'm a retard who sold every single game every time so I could afford the next console.

yes but its not that many games
>>
>>12778716
Yes to NES and Genesis consoles and games, I recovered after my grandparents storage after college in like 2012
I always kept my PSX and PS2 slim but there were some games thrown out at some point during moves
I have my Dreamcast but only a couple games games (the DCs laser died in like 2010)
the Sega Saturn I was given from my uncle when he bought a PSX was given to charity at some point before I entered high school by my parent
I ended up tossing my Gamecube and games when I moved cross country with everything packed into my old car
>>
>>12778716
I do, I knew somehow in the back of my mind that I would want to go back and play them, so I never got rid of them. I was right.
>>
>>12784618
The n64 didn't really get expensive until like right now. Did you have any super rare games like super bowling?
>>
Most of it. Lost a good chunk of it in a flood, which still pisses me off. Lost mostly my big boxes for tons of old PC games.
>>
I still have about half of it, namely my N64 and the big hitters I used to play on it
Got rid of the original Xbox after I got a 360 ages ago but still kept the copy of Halo CE
When do we cutoff childhood? My friend gave me his old GameCube my first year of high school and I still have that along with the games he gave me
>>

I tossed all the boxes and manuals after moving with my collection a bunch of times. I lugged my stuff in and out of my folks house as I bounced from apartment to apartment. What sucks is the last time I moved back into my parents basement I finally tossed boxes and manuals for carts and discs. Moved the discs to a big CD wallet and the carts to big boxes. The very next place I moved to was the house I bought where I have unlimited room.
>>
>>12794101
Man I sorta understand tossing cardboard boxes (though not really), but tossing manuals? Why?
Tossing CD cases?
>>
>>12794121
I dunno man this was the late 90s and early 00s. I got so tired of moving the stuff so much.

It kills me I bought a house like 2 months after I tossed it. I didn't even really care I did this till like early 2010s when I started caring about real hardware and games.

>>
>>12778716
yea.... mostly. My brother stole a couple N64 games, mario and zelda, go figure. She's a hoarder now, so even if I wanted them back, not happening. So, in return I stole her gameboy and game collection.

My father-in-law kept saying he would hold onto the SNES and N64 so that his grandkids would have a reason to come over to visit.
He sold the whole set, with Mario Paint and the SNES mouse, without telling, and it's been a few years since we've visited.

Yup, I let him borrow my N64 stuff, and then she never gave back mario or zelda. Mentally ill hoarder.

No.
I was born into a family of terminal hoarders (they had to build 2 extra rooms just to protect their "treasures") who, ironically, never had a problem throwing away all my "old" stuff. The only thing I could save were some toys i hid from them.

I do. Mostly PC stuff (some 20-25 big boxes from the 90s, also pirated disks).
Additionally there are several SNES games somewhere around but alas those are just cartridges.
Probably I should get rid of almost all PC big boxes, they take too much space, and keep maybe just five or six of those.
