What was your most played computer game from that era? Hard mode: no DOS games
>>12778827AoE
>>12778827look at this absolute retard, he bought two copies
>people would line up to get a boxed copy of software at launchstrange, it wasn't THAT long ago but it feels like something that would only happen in a different reality or something. that's kinda sad
Old software stores and aisles are a special kind of nostalgia for me.
People were actually hyped over Microsoft operating systems back then. Now, even loyal Microsoft customers will say windows sucks now
>>12778901Meant for >>12778851
>>127789017 was the last good one. It's not just Windows though, everything has gone to shit.
>>12778827Sometimes I forget how much better life was back then, and then I remember and think about how it's never going to be that good again before I get old and die.
>>12778901nothing changed you faggot, most people are still excited for the new Windows, and then there is the contrarian faggots inisting the previous version was actually the peakit was XP fags (went extinct) then 7 fags (some of them still aroundà and now it's 10 fags (the latest posers)
>>12778926>most people are still excited for the new Windowslollmao even
>>12778856Imagine the world of products they had the honor of living in!!!
>>12778913would rape drunk pikachu
>>12778901Windows 95 was better than the shitty system-meh Mac OS they had back thenNobody had a NeXT cube
Good memories
>>12778827Probably Worms 2. My cousin and I played the everliving shit out of it. I love how unrestrained the weapon editor was, allowing you to make something like the Minigun have the power of a Holy Grenade in every single bullet.
>>12778954Said no one ever. Windows couldn't touch Mac OS until XP came out and that's only because the switch to OS X was so awful initially
>>12778979lol
Our family computer had picrelated and a few other games from RealArcade on it, no idea how well it'd run on modern hardware. People in its Steam reviews are saying a bunch of the stuff in it is broken now.
>>12778926Nah, most people excited for nu windows are just Microsoft employees shilling, and we know exactly what Microsoft employees now, do we?The only people sticking around are because of shit like adobe suite and "muh gaems!" that rely on kernal level anti cheat.
>>12779029Not even Microsoft employees like nu-Windows (source: used to work for Microsoft). They'll say what they have to to get paid, but internally everyone knows it's shit
>>12779053>source: used to work for MicrosoftNTA but what do they daily drive at home? Windows 10 patched until 2031, or ganoo loonix?
>>12778827Halo
Definitely Quake, although Command & Conquer (Win 95 edition) was probably a close second.
>>12778827I didn't get into PC gaming until the end of 7th gen because PC gaming sucked until fairly recently.
>>12779016I would boot this shit up daily and play a round cause I was always trying to fill that speed meter thing full and win. I remember I would purposely slow down so I didn't beat the timer too fast and dash off like 5 seconds from the next lap I had to do, but I'm not sure looking back if that was the right move or not lol
>>12778849he mailed it to his pen pal
>>12779134>PC gaming sucked until fairly recently.
>>12778827>bandanna with dress casual shirt and coatWas that really a common fashion choice back then?
I didn't move to Win95 from DOS until 1997 and then it was just maybe for a year because of Win98.I'd be perfectly fine with DOS if game developers hadn't stopped making games for it (blessed were those who supported it even in 1997-1998, like NovaLogic). Win95 took too much RAM and free space on my 1.3 GB HDD.
The only Win95 specific games that I remember playing that weren't just me rebooting in DOS mode to save on memory, were stuff like Indiana Jones Desktop Adventure
>>12779134You're thinking of the 00's. PC gaming was at its peak in the mid 90's, I like to use this example, a magazine from mid 96 with 100 playable demos. It was a three-monthly magazine so 3 months later you'd get another close to 100 playable demos and so on, not counting the other stuff. Notice how every genre is convered and there is stuff for everyone; a far cry from the 00's notion that PC gaming is only for RTS, MMORPGs and FPS (and even then FPS were bigger on console then).Though this is sorta offtopic because even then there isn't a lot here that requires Win95 to run
>>12778827Non-DOS, Diablo
>>12778926I updated to Windows 11 and went back to Windows 10 within minutes. Shit's utterly broken.
>>12778827Hard to say, but I'd wager it was duke3d.
>>12780075I'm still on 8.1, should never have updated beyond 7. I just can't stand the enforced system-breaking updates.
>>12778979were you even alive? nobody liked that janky mac shit before OSX
>>12778979Classic MacOS was complete garbage.
>>12779134Modern pc gaming is a hollow husk that is just console-lite experiences.
>>12778827SimCity 2000 (Win95 version) and SimCopter
Definitely Duke Nukem 3d. I spent many hours with Build as a kid
>>12780456Was gonna say Duke 3D was DOS, though I bet a lot of people played it within Windows anyway later on.
>>12778827the 90s were the peak of civilization
>>12780456Fuck man, I used to sink hours into that editor. Made my own art, sounds, hell, I still have the book...
>>12778827Probably either Castle of the Winds or MicroMan.
>>12778849home and office. get a clue!
>>12778827Worms 2. Yeah, it came out in 1997, but was targeting Windows 95 so it counts.
>>12786238I played it way back in the day as well. Any reason to prefer it over Worms Armageddon, though?
>>12786238Man the classic worms are so good.
>>12787652Threads for titles of the era. Armageddon is more Windows 98 based
I can't even remember the first game I had that required 95. Most were compatible with dos so I just stuck with win 3.x for as long as possible and jumped off at 98
>>12787652The Weapons editor was a unique feature of Worms 2. It was fun making Prod do 100 damage or making the Uzi cause huge craters with each bullet
>>12787925I do remember that. I'd make the Minigun basically erase the entire battlefield. Good shit. I could've sworn it had single player missions, though, but I guess I must've played those on Armageddon later on. It also appears to be a bit finicky with drivers. I tried it on my usual 86Box setup for shits, and the graphics in-game exhibited a lot of flickering. I then tried it on a clean Windows install with different drivers, and it worked perfectly then, but then when updating them to the same drivers I used before, the flickering was back, so I guess something changed in the DirectDraw implementation that the game doesn't like.
