I don't know moonrunes but the translation doesn't seem very good. Not from an incorrect translation perspective, that I have no clue if. But the english phrases are often very stiff.
Still that doesn't really bother me, as long as they aren't saying "jeepers hero, you sure you don't want to skedadle back to sleep?" or whatever the fuck kids say these days. So far I haven't seen any crunchyroll tier translation, but I only played like 4h.

And I'm still unsure what's going on with this translation, so another team was working on the translation but they were taking too long and this guy just cloned their github and rushed it himself? Didn't really follow.

Also does anyone have some tips or hints for moves to buy? In the other thread some guy described this game as having too much unnecessary moves like god hand and that sold me on the game.
But the money is scarce and I already bought I move that I regretted.

Glad to see other people playing it. Beat the game last week with about 18ish hours of play tine. Like 7 of those hours are from the bonus dungeons.

Anyone know what changes in new game plus or what the stars mean in the game clear screen? I know you get a ring that raises every stat at the start of new game plus but the enemies are also harder.
>>
>>12781820
I find the translation pretty good. Its a little stilted but in a deliberate kind of way.
>>
>>12781845
I find the translation to be really good. The deal with this translation is it's built off the work done by another team that is open source. Mostly how the font engine works and text I injection. The original translation had very little actual translation done. This guy, Waldo I think he goes by, went in and finished the localization. No real confusion at all about what happened.
>>

Just try a bunch, the waterfall has a cave right behind it that lets you try moves out.

I never found the added moves worthwhile to do over just the regular attack

It's not like it's big in Japan either, nor was successful enough to kick off any sequels. So I don't think it's that simple, since the Japanese also don't seem to care for it. And it even seems like it's the last real Quintet game, after they just seem to do silly simple projects and co-development support. I imagine they continued on for a couple more years, their website only came offline in 2007.

>>
>>12783331
it came out mere months before the ps2 launched. there wasn't exactly a shortage of ps1 games to choose from at the tail end of that generation. it just fell through the cracks. similar things happen today all the time when you look at steam.
>>
I LOVE the translation for this game. The mix of old school generic fantasy anime aesthetic coupled with the "old english" way of speaking has made my first playthrough of this game incredible. More translations should be handled this way for games where the story takes a backseat to the gameplay IMO.

I would love to see this game get a pc port solely for the extended drop distance in the overworld.

back, forward, attack
you can use the d-pad for those inputs if you want and the character actually won't move iirc

Also what shader presets is everyone using if playing on retroarch. I'm just using crt easymode halation.

crt-royale-xm29plus at native res always for ps1
>>
>>12783384
CRT Guest Advanced is my favorite one. Even the default configs are good enough, but it has a lot of customization, to the point I'd rather it had less.
Crt royale is also good but I really don't like the default configs and I don't have the patience to reconfigure it

which skill is good for skill point farming and is the ice bolt worth double the fireball cost? does it use more mana?

>>
>>12783462
not sure. someone i talked to found it in the castle on the snow mountain
>>
>>12783431
fireball is the cheapest mana cost. i used ice for getting ez combos on higher health enemies btw protip if you shoot fireballs at a wall your standing near the light from them exploding can be used to refill your light crystals

south of the lake ruins there is a shore with a few fish, if you use a ice sword on them it does very little damage and also freezes them them which you can use to farm skill points off them.
regular attacks are +1
hold attacks are +2
dance combos are +3
and the art button combos are +4 i think

>I would love to see this game get a pc port solely for the extended drop distance in the overworld.
I honestly believe these games artstyles would not hold up with infinite draw distance. A lot of that sort of hypnotic experience I get out of these games is by never being able to capture the image fully. I'm not sure how to express it without sounding gay, but I do believe these games just turn banal as soon as you bump up the view distance and internal resolution. The devs were doing what they could with the limited means they had, and as soon as you just blow everything up to remove the ambiguity and uncertainty it just turns sour.

>>12783521
>tw protip if you shoot fireballs at a wall your standing near the light from them exploding can be used to refill your light crystals
That's fucking hilarious, I wonder if it's unintentional and just a side effect of how the engine works.

>What the hell are the skill coins for? I'm too dumb, still don't get it.
attacking enemies earns you xp. every successive attack causes your xp multiplier to climb. getting hit resets the multiplier. how high it can climb is determined by how many skills coins you have collected. every additional coin means +1 max mulitplier.

so it's important to find as many skill coins as you can and not to get hit if you want to earn a lot of xp. block frequently. attacks blocked by enemies still make your make your muliplier go up.
>>

for the dances you alternate with button presses between the button you have for the regular attack and the button for the held down attack.
the stop at the end of a combo means it finishes on that move while 2 step means there are currently two attacks that can be added on to with more moves

all dances are are just extensions of your normal combo m8. Thats literally it. the "T" just denotes that you hit the charge button instead of the attack button. the "2-stop" just means your standard attack combo will stop with those 2 attacks which is why those stop attacks are generally stronger.

>>12789430
Nope, not your guy. My dad gave me this CRT back in the day, had it for a long time. The only thing I like about it is the 29" size, so that's why I never replaced it.
I can't quite fix the geometry of the thing, it's like herding cats, fix one part, another end gets misaligned. To the point where the best compromise ends up fucking with the overscan which is quite noticeable in some systems, depending on the signal. Apparently flat CRT TVs are particularly hard to align correctly, but I have nothing else to compare it to. I did my best and continue to try tackle it over the years, but it's pretty bad right now.
I also have a problem with the colors in some games that are too dark, forces me to really bump up the color curves which makes the #000 black not so dark.
Wish I could find some local old man that still did CRT repairs before they all kick the bucket, but even transporting this fucking beast would be a pain in the ass.
