FF7 did it with its amnesiac protagonist, where you already have the culprit and it goes into reverse mystery where the details are the answer, which are gradually remembered and misrembered. You also get Hojo, a guy you can pin all blame on for the final boss going insane. Other than that, FF6 is much more straightforward and has more characters if FF7 pissed you off. Is Cyan's story really that different than Red XII's? At this point the biggest differences are the stick figures and SGI backgrounds and FMVs. Both have excellent music. Better is just subjective here because both are good

>>12784530My expectations for it were astronomically high, but there was never any point in the game in which I suddenly realized what it was that I’d missed out on (which has happened with a lot of different retro games over the years). Instead, I basically spent my whole time playing it feeling vexed. I dropped it around the time Relm joins your party (which was well after 20 hours) and haven’t looked back. Have no interest in finishing it either. It’s interesting that I enjoyed FFIV more than FFVI even though they are largely very similar. This, I think, is because I played FFIV when I was a kid. I frankly didn’t enjoy it all that much back then either (played the “FF Chronicles” release) and dropped it when I got stuck at fighting pic related. But I went back and finished FFIV and it didn’t leave a bad taste in my mouth the way FFVI did, likely because I had the nostalgia fueling my interest in FFIV as a whole. For the reason, I’ve decided that FFVI is the one game that is unquestionably praised for little reason aside from nostalgia. That doesn’t mean people shouldn’t play it, but they should at least know that it’s reputation is largely due to bias.
