I've yet to, but I was thinking about trying some of those hacks where they reduce the encounter rate, while raising the XP and money from encounters to hopefully balance it right and make the game feel the same, except you don't get interrupted every two steps. I see some people claim random encounters are bad in general though and I actually do enjoy them, just not when they're so high that you don't even want to explore and they just become more of a burden than anything challenging or fun

Most of the time they just pick a completely arbitrary multiplier like 2x without any thought whatsoever of what that does to game balance.And really often, it's for a game that didn't need any changes in the first place. Like on romhacking.net they have one for Breath of Fire 1 that cuts the encounter rate in half (and gives you- guess what? 2x exp 2x gold). But in that game they sell an item that does the same thing as the Repel spray in Pokemon in the very first town in the game. The developers give you the tool to reduce the encounter rate in the first ten fucking minutes of the game, and people still make hacks like this for it. It's pointless; it does nothing but destroy the game's balance for no benefit.

>>12784554I think the simpler solution is just to go in vanilla, wait until the encounter rate actually becomes a serious detriment (with no clear solution presented by the game), and fixing the problem from there yourself with a cheat code or fast forward (or just dropping the game).Those are much less risky. The odds that a standard cheat code or fast-fowarding will horribly fuck up your save file are rather low, and the odds that some random guy on romhacking.net will are disappointingly high.
