Have you played the Fifth and Six generation of Armored Core games yet?
>>
I learned about Chrome Hounds but most of the cool shit was "live service" and that ended.
>>
Awkward retarded untouchable sulfuric control scheme. Miyazaki did the right thing ditching it and doing Starfox 64 with mecha.

It looked pretty fun but I never got to it. Wonder if it'll ever get a fan revival in the future.

It's really not that hard to learn and play with. Though I prefer the Nexus and Last Raven control scheme a lot more.

>Miyazaki did the right thing ditching it and doing Starfox 64 with mecha.
AC4 and FA are amazing so I can't disagree. It was a good direction.

the controls were rebindable since the first game, youre meant to customize them to suit your own needs
>>
>>12782730
I lost interest after the third generation, because I didn't like the look of the direction they were going with 4.
>>
I played the PSX games but never tried the PS2 games because they look like shit (graphically), literally soul -> soulless
>>
>>12782730
they're the only ones i ever bothered playing

Indeed I have and HOLY SHIT I remember this screenshot from a Gamespot preview.

Gen3 improves the situation and Gen3.5 is great.

No but I just found out this was a thing. Sorry about the crap image, this is what was on Wikipedia
>>
Only played 1 and PP, and I am scared of Master of Arena so it's on ice for a bit.
>>
I've only played Armored Core 2.

I liked fires of Rubicon but I'm having a lot of trouble getting into armored core 3.
Did do Ace combat zero and loved it. Old core games feel really really stiff.
>>
For the longest time the only games in the series i had played were 1 and 4A

I'm genuinely not interested because despite the age of this franchise, nobody has ever sung its praises beyond it being a Japanese mech game. No word on stellar gameplay, no word on great stories or characters, just praise that it's a mech game. Same category of praise Ocarina of Time gets, but at least Ocarina of Time has coming of age and hero's journey stuff going for it.

I will say this, for the first few games the clunkiness has purpose, it feels like you are in fact moving a 5m tall (ACs are not big, i think even Arm Slaves in FMP are bigger) robot. So you have to plan your movement and aiming in accordance with that

I think fires of Rubicon is a beautiful game. The story feels super raw and heavy. It branches so the weight of your choices hit you like a freight train. The guilt of it made me play it multiple times to get the other endings, including the secret ending. There was a surprising amount of mystery and intrigue throughout, do pay attention to characters dialogue even when you fight them.

The replay on the levels was fantastic. Some levels you would do in reverse, or from a different perspective, or half way through betray your allies. Really well done stuff.

Not very much filler. The whole game was paced super well, every level seemed cool and like it needed to be there.

And the combat is JUICY. Loads of depth but easy to digest. It is daunting at first but if you spend 20 minutes trying things out in the test arena you can feel what every different stat bar means. Then it becomes intuitive and piloting the mech becomes very natural.

It's fun 5th gen shooting with varied missions including some cool very open levels, and the way you can customize your mech affects gameplay in substantial ways, there are a lot of options so you can choose the playstyle that suits you (except for some missions that basically demand to use certain things)

For the two sequels/expansion packs; you can import your mech and stuff from the previous games. As time went on those focused more on the mech vs mech arena battles than on the missions, which I personally don't like as much, though it's what fans liked the most in Japan (some mechs you fight in Masters of Arena were submitted by fans) but there are still new missions too

also there is nothing "clunky" about it

What's up with that screenshot? Looks nothing like AC2

Really? I've seen a lot of praise come from its gameplay and customization. It's really fun.

I peaked here.

Which would you guys say is the best one on ps2? Been wanting to get into the series but whenever I try and play them in order I always get burnt out.

That's AC6 anon we're talking 5th gen Armored Core. For the record I think AC6 has a fantastic story and great characters.
