The best versions of the early Final Fantasy games are on the Game Boy Advance i liked the Gameboy Advance version more than the Pixel Remaster and NES versions

I like the GBA and the ps1 versions too. But my favorite will always be the OG NES. I just love the old graphics.

Dawn of Souls is great.
PSP is also a good time

1-3 fucking suck
so who cares?
Nobody would play this generic shit if it didn't have final Fantasy in the name

its a shame the gba sound chip is ass

I mean, it's a pocket sized device from the olden era. What are you expecting?

The pixel remaster of FF1 is so shit, they didn't even delevel Chaos so you have to grind to level 50 to stand a chance. Fuck them niggas.
>>
>>12783523
best how?
have you played the playstation ports?
gba is a legit 2000s port for handheld
tho you get relatively lame audio and video
considering you have a small ass screen as well
regardless of the comfort and convenience of the handheld thing

I want to play Final Fantasy 2 & 3, what are the best versions? I have the pixel remaster of 3 but I heard it's bad.
>>
My Choice (the Patrician's) is Origins for I and DoS for II, just ignore the other version bundled in each.
>>
>>12785796
oops I meant 1 & 3

>>
>>12785796
For 3 if you ignore the PR you just have the original Famicom version and then the DS/PSP remake. There's more modern versions of said remake but they fuck up all the menus and text. The DS version has the best presentation on original hardware but the PSP version is much nicer if you're emulating, so you probably want that one.

I'd personally recommend the remake as it's harder than the original which makes it one of my favorite JRPGs, but the original is really good itself. The PR is kind of a mess and far too easy.

Play Final Fantasy Renaissance on Classic Mode for FF1. It feels like playing the NES game without the jank or the slowness. I've beaten FF1 on NES and when it was ported to PSX, this version is the best feeling
>>
The gba is an excellent port of these, unfortunately the nerfed difficulty kind of spoils it
>>
>>12783734
which ones don't suck? inb4 7 8 those suck
>>
>>12785796
Either you play the NES or PSX versions, or it's not that you didn't beat the games, it's that you didn't even play them.
>>
>>12785796
My rule of thumb for hip wizards is never play a Square-Enix rerelease of a Square/Enix game.
>>
too bad theres no version of 3 NES for GBA. but I really liked 5 on GBA. I didn't like 1 as much on there. for 6 I still liked SNES better.
>>
>>12785796
>>12787743

no the pixel remaster version of 3 is good. is different than either the NES or DS version but its closer to the NES one and far better than the DS version.

DS one really majorly sucks, the enemy parties are too small, they changed too much stuff. and the NES one is peak 8 bit graphics and chip tunes. its got it all. play on an emulator with save states to enjoy yourself fully. it holds up great
>>
>>12784821
I've always thought the final boss of a game should be the greatest challenge by far and require you to be at your strongest just to have a chance to win. That said, it shouldn't require endless grinding to get to that point.
>>
>>12788215
I've heard the enemy party size complaint over the years, but it's not like it made the game easier since the enemies were retuned to be individually stronger to compensate and the most important fights never had many enemies to begin with.

>they changed too much stuff
I think the intro segment is a little silly since after they introduce all these characters as individuals the game's story plays out like before without that mattering and may as well have simply started you with all of them like the original, but that's like the first 30 minutes of play. The job changes are largely for the better balance-wise though the best jobs remain that way, the few battle "cooldown period" on changing jobs where stats lower is a little silly in a game where you want to swap them around often, I suppose. Bosses are largely improved in the DS version, they're all pretty tough and make you nervous at the end of a long dungeon run which is how it should be.

>play on an emulator with save states to enjoy yourself fully.
Oh okay you got filtered by the DS version being the most difficult, no wonder you're recommending the PR. FF3 was the last FF to not throw saves at you every 5 steps and expected you to beat dungeons in one run, and the DS remake kept that aspect while the PR shits on it which removes any planning and tension.
>>
>>12788307
thats not true at all there are regularly 9 wolves or goblins. the retune thing is a myth it just doesnt work right. and the classes are all fucked up. nothing is better balanced or improved. bosses are not improved.

>>12788307
no I played the NES version on my computer years before the DS version. the DS version looks like shit and plays like shit and sounds like shit. its a bad product all around unless you were 8 years old when it came out.

the pixel remaster of 3 is one of the best of any of the pixel remasters and aside from playing an English translation of the NES version is far superior to the terrible DS version

We can all agree that FFIVDS was a massive, MASSIVE improvement over FFIIIDS, right?
>remembering that everyone thought the rest of the 2D series was getting 3D remakes
haha, yeeaahh...
>>
>>12788321
I mean it sounds like you're just predisposed to dislike anything they did, so you do you. I love FF3DS's visual style and personally think the soundtrack is fantastic. I'll admit it's the version I played first, but I loved it so much that it made me go download the Famicom version and give that a playthrough as well right afterwards. Playing the Pixel Remaster years and years later was a huge disappointment.

>>12788418
Eh, not really if you ask me. The visual style looks far worse than FF3DS and it doesn't fit for the kind of narrative/characters FF4 has even with the ugly visual compromises they made to try to make that work. FF4 is a piss easy game so it needed the bump but I'd say they overcorrected a bit too hard whereas FF3DS was just right in adding some challenge. Not a huge fan of the overdone localized script, either.
>>
>>12788883
ok zoomer you have nostalgia from the garbage you grew up with. ff3 DS is objectively the worst version.

and no you don't know shit about me or what I like. I actually played a beat FF4 all the way through and thought it was a really good take on it and fresh way to play FF4. ff3 was not, it was a terrible adaption. the NES & Pixel Remaster has the original audio which is iconic of that late 80s early 90s 8 bit era. the pixel remaster also preserves the graphics instead of forcing the cheesy chibi crap.

>>12788418
yeah FFIVDS was definitely much better than 3. 3 was also slower

>ok zoomer you have nostalgia from the garbage you grew up with.
Hey, be nice! That's like half of these discussions, at least
>>
>>12788913
I just said I played both existing versions back to back, I don't know how that would equate to nostalgia driving my conclusion. I still wound up preferring the DS one. I'd played FF1 for NES and FF2 (FF4) on SNES far beforehand but simply never touched 3 until the DS remake came out which rekindled my interest in checking out the rest of the series after being disappointed with Dawn of Souls.

>and no you don't know shit about me or what I like.
I mean, you recommended someone play the original FF3 with save states in this very thread, so that says quite a lot on its own.
