Looks awful, zero effort done towards optimization, polygon pop-out or texture wrapping.
>>
>1994 console runs PC game better than the average PC from 1996
Well well
>>
>>12783736
Nobody would've considered visuals like this acceptable at the time.
>>
>>12783779
The renderer has bugs but it's still better than Saturn Quake. PS1 wins again
>>
fix it and add some colored lighting and i might get interested
>>
>>12783735
found the poster who doesn't belong here
>>
>>12783717
wdym? quake1 was always on ps1
>>
>>12785134
Nope, only Quake II got a port back in the day
>>
>>12785156
I'm pretty sure I tried quake 25 years ago and it's wasn't 2 and it sucked.

Who the hell wanted this lmao whats even the point
>>
>>12785162
You must have played the Saturn port
>>
>>12783717
Are the controls as retarded as the Saturn?
>>
>>12785162
Congratulations on being this comfortable telling everyone what a faggot you are
>>
>>12783717
I don't recognize that soundtrack and it is certainly not reznor. Neat, but not great. Game looks good enough. Could someone say, burn it to disc and play it on a modded ps1? Just for fun?
>>
>>12783735
You're retarded. Looks pretty good and runs smooth enough. The music is horrific though.
>>
>>12783735
>polygon pop-out
Is the new phrase of the week you just learned to parrot?
>>
>>12783717
Incredible that people see a thirty year old game and think to themselves 'ah yes, I need to make an infinitely shittier version of this that nobody is going to play'.
>>
>>12786113
AI has made this easy, all you have to do is lie and say you didn't use AI
>>
>>12783717
I'm sorry but this framerate is just not acceptable. Needs work but a good solid start. If they can get a version of Quake II to run well, I'm sure this will eventually get sorted out.
>>
>>12786217
Quake II ps1 was a different engine, so was Saturn Quake. Quake 1 engine is still too much for a PS1. Maybe the creator learned this the hard way and stopped.
>>
didn't the guys who did the Saturn port also made a playstation version, but couldn't get a publisher or something
>>
>>12786519
Also N64 Quake II used Quake1 engine
>>
>>12783717
So? Demakes are for drooling midwits.
>>
The N64 port in comparison is good tier. And people have the audacity to shit talk the N64
>>
why are people console warring over a clearly wip homebrew project
>>
>>12786732
because we need saturn ports of every fps game up to Deus Ex
>>
>>12785195
Your mind isn't complex enough for Saturn Quake.
>>
>PS2 had ports of UT99, HL1, Deus Ex, Quake 3, Serious Sam and Red Faction
ps2 supremacy confirmed
>>
>>12786519
The other thing is the large open spaces are hard to do with PS1 hardware. In the absence of a convincing confutation, I reassert my novice opinion that a playable version could be possible if Quake II was.
>>
>>12786567
Not really, context is important. Back then many of us had consoles like this and we looked at PC games and wished we had a version of such game, this persisted into the PS2 and Xbox era. PS2 owners wanted Halo. Xbox owners got PC ports which were pretty good. (PS2 owners had the far superior library overall) but you get the point. So seeing this is a fulfillment of that wish and very cool. Simply playing the PC version isn't quite the same for this unique niche. This post is very zoomercoded and gay.

Overclock the PS1 cpu and fix the renderer, ez
>>
>>12786759
Return to castle wolfenstein anon
>>
>>12783717
Good start, but Carmack would have fucking HATED all that texture warping back then. They got Doom on the PSX without texture warping, so Quake should be able to also.

>>12783735
>>12783779
Right, but this is just the initial proof of concept, and he says as such.
>It's rough. Performance moves around, there are visual and gameplay bugs, save/load and multiplayer aren't there, and I still owe it a full-episode run on hardware. Playable, not finished.

Assuming he's serious about it, he still needs to reduce polycount on monsters and stuff, probably reduce their texture size also, and he'll need to tone down a lot of the environments. And fix the texture warping.
He can't use the original Trent Reznor soundtrack, though I think this would have been a good enough place to use stuff from the Ghosts album, since those ARE free to use, and they'd still kinda fit.

>>12785134
There was no official port. Lobotomy Software, the guys who ported it to Saturn, did make a port for PSX, but no publisher was interested so it wasn't released. At least not officially.

>>12785168
Things like these are usually done by programmers as a mix of training habits and also just 'recreational' programming. They may work for a shitty company that doesn't do anything interesting, so perhaps this is an opportunity to apply their skillsets on something they actually like, a classic game.
>>
>>12786567
Depends, if it's a demake that signficantly changes the gameplay style, like that Halo demake for atari.
>>
>>12786567
It'd be equivalent to a contemporary port, you nigger.

>>12786941
Still the best Wolfenstein.
>>
>>12787307
>contemporary port
Stop with your autism
>>
>>12787404
No, what the fuck do you think is the point with these kinds of homebrew ports? They are exercises in autism, that's the purpose, you fucking retard.
>>
>>12786759
And every single one was inferior to the PC version.
>>
>>12787461
Dunno, but maybe you should lurk before posting, newfag.
>>
>>12786519
Wasn't Lobotomy interested in porting Quake to PS1 with the engine they used for the Saturn version? Their published crashed or something like that
>>
>>12783717
>coded in rust
why?
there are zero benefits to rust in older systems and negatively impacts performance because of the unneeded extra safeguards.
also, i bet it will not get further than that. a bad tech demo.
>>
>>12786732
It's just retards want to stir up shit as usual for (you)s
>>
>>12786732
because these projects never go anywhere.
look at sm64 for gba. there were 2 projects about it and none of them went past tech demo stage.
one of the guys even went and "did" sm64 on gbc just to one up himself.

Their publisher wasn't interested, and none of the others they asked were either.

>>12787616
He probably doesn't know better.
