I've known for a while that there are many movie references in the Metal Slug games. I know a lot of these escape me since I am not a big movie buff, but I remember there being an Independence Day reference at the end of Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug 3 had the brain slugs from Starship Troopers. I also think there are some Terminator references and maybe some army movies. This dead explorer right fucking here. I have always wondered where are they from? They're clearly an archeologist and it seems from the picture that they have long red hair or something. Maybe the purple gem (amethyst?) was added just for the game, but the dead archeologist must be a reference to something right? Do you know? Tell me if you know please I beg of you.
>>12785591The Mummy maybe? Or maybe its just a dumb broad who was thieving jewels.
>>12785592That's a really good guess, but Metal Slug 2 came out in 1998 and The Mummy come out in 1999. I guess it's possible since they're so close but I don't know. I cannot find her wearing the clothes in the screenshot either. I guess the best way I can describe the clothes is like the stereotypical archeologist's clothes from movies with the hard hat.I have to go to sleep but I will check back later. Someone posted the entire book of Metal Slug: The Ultimate History recently and I tried to find something in there, but it's not a short book. There might be something in there but I couldn't find anything. I will read it in its entirety someday.
Allen O'Neil being devoured by some random killer whale has to be a reference to something. They don't eat people.
>>12785592I forgot to mention that the reason I strongly believe that this is a reference to something is because why would the developers make the hair long and red? If this really is just a generic dead explorer why give them these very specific features? If you wanted to make a generic background character, you don't do this (I think). Like the miners. They're memorable but they just look like a common worker man, like a nonspecific construction worker.
>>12785718>because why would the developers make the hair long and redSometimes they just do shit, kinda like making Link's hair pink in LttP. There was no lore fore that.
>>12785772Ok fair point, but I always thought this was done for "artistic reasons" (read: autistic reasons) or maybe for contrast so that the hair clearly stands out from all the noise. Like brown or blonde was easily mistaken for clothes or an extension of his hat so they chose a color that wouldn't blend in easily. Anyway Metal Slug is notorious for including movie references all over the place so I think I can be excused for my insistence that this is a movie reference. I still insist.
Nobody knows really? I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Nobody on this board really plays Metal Slug I should have figured.
>>12787739Not every little thing is necesarilly taken straight out of another material, that's a stupid assumption to make. You're also slamming other people for not knowing something you don't know yourself
>>12787739you could ask the artist, he's on twitter and interacts with people.
I think most references are either generic tropes or possible b-movies. Otherwise you can list everything from Little Shop of Horrors to Tremors to Dr. Moreau's Island.>>12785656>Metal Slug 2 came out in 1998 and The Mummy come out in 1999.The 1999 movie is a remake of the 1932 original featuring Boris Karloff as Imhotep.
>>12785665Probably a Jaws reference. As for why make it a killer whale, probably looked cooler on screen.
>tropes/archetypes are le heckin movie references!Datamining bot thread.
>>12787762It is not a stupid assumption. If I was asking something like "omg guys where is this mummy from what movie reference is this?" then of course it's silly, as this is a generic mummy trope. If you had an attention span you would have read that I explained that it is suspicious that this dead explorer just happens to have long red hair. Fuck you get the fuck out of my thread before I permanently ban you bitch.>>12787798I don't have a twitter but that's a good idea.>>12787810Thank you for saying this, I am going to check out that movie now.>>12787813It's probably a reference to the serial killer whale movie Orca (1977).>>12787824Fuck you, you paranoid ass loser. Get the fuck out of my thread before something bad happens to you.
>>12788217Ok, bot.
>>12788382Thanks for proving my point, dumbass bitch.
In today's thread OP wants to fuck the supid redhead dead explorer and proceeds to artistically demand insight on the origins of his gay crush
>>12788481She has long red hair so it's obviously a woman so it's not gay.
>>12788496>muh long hairso does tarzan whats your point?
>>12788503My point is that Tarzan's hair isn't red so it's not gay what's so hard to understand? Go away go be gay somewhere else bro.
>>12785591That's not hair.
>>12788609Oh yeah? Then what is it then genius? Oh yeah you don't fucking know because if you did you would have included it in your post, instead of being vague. Shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down.
>>12788481>the supid redheadwatch out, your ESL is showing. learn how to use a spellcheck, my brahmin friend.
>>12788690I think it is the type of headscarf that is commonly worn (by men) in desert countries to block the sun. I don't know what they're called, but colonials in Africa and the middle east often wore them under a hat like just like in the OP pic. I'm actually surprised they aren't wearing them in this screenshot from The Mummy. >>12785656
>>12788690You're the only one who thinks it's hair. It's most likely >>12788717 or the cloth back that hangs down from similar hats like that to block the sun (look them up). Or just as likely that it's a large travel pack being worn on the back. It doesn't even look like hair and if we go with the assumption that it is, the corpse it's on doesn't even look female, so we have to assume the designers decided to include a corpse of an explorer dude that for some reason had long red hair.If you want random MS bits to sperg out over, go with the zombie vomit bomb roar being from 3's scrapped T-Rex slug vehicle.
>>12788724>3's scrapped T-Rex slug vehicle.the what?I've been checking metal slug secrets since the 00s (and made the first big write-up of metal slug 3 dev mode levels) but that's the first time I've heard of that.
>>12788724>cloth back that hangs down from similar hats like that to block the sunthe hat is called a pith helmet or salacotthe cloth is a havelock or neck curtain
>>12788748Supposedly an idea for 3 was a rideable rex. No idea if it ever made it beyond concept stage, but the zombie roar very much sounds like it could have been intended for it. I could even see the elephant maybe being its replacement.
>>12788765So the part about the zombie roar being the t-rex roar originally is something you just made up then. Gotcha.
>>12785665as a kid I used to draw porn of him raping Eri and tarma.
>>12788827Yeah yeah, you've said that before.
>>12788827Pic or it didn't happen.
>>12788824metalslug.fandom.com/wiki/Metal_Slug_Anthology_InterviewMaybe it's a fake article but it seems legit.
>>12788892They actually did end up adding this in MS7, but the rex was another robot.
>>12788763That's a legionnaire hat.
>>12787739I was about to tell you but seeing that you are such a nigger, i wont.
>>12787739Your autism is sadly showing.
>>12785591My gut is saying it's from a swords and sorcery fantasy film, not an Indiana Jones style adventure. And that it is from the film's poster.
>>12789303I think it's Conan.
I really like Metal Slug.
