An unofficial PC port of Star Fox for SNES was released.60fps, widescreen, works in Wine/Proton if you're a linuxfag.https://github.com/kandowontu/starfox-enhancedPrebuilt windows binary is in the 'dist' folder of the repo.
>>12785615>works in Wine/Proton if you're a linuxfagRenders great, audio is crackly. Shame. I'll fight through the sound issues though cause this is hot shit!
>>12785615Could someone post a webm, please? I don't plan on ever playing it and couldn't be bothered looking on youtube but a webm would be nice.

>>12785615Vibe coded?
>>12785717>Vibe coded?Very much so. See 9:12 in >>12785639This is the kind of shit that never gets properly fixed in these waste-of-time "ports." Also I'm betting it has all the usual problems from the 60-fps emulation patches in that the game itself was hand tuned around the slowdown so when you give the game infinite power chunks of the game run unplayably fast leading to a very jank experience.
>>12785836I've been playing it widescreen @ 120fps and it seems to work fine. What issues are you referring to?

>>12785950Holy based
>>12786140It doesn't need to actually work.
>>12786140See >>12785836It's vibe-coded and the level design was made for 8fps. On the 60fps patches you get waves of enemy spam that pretty much requires holding down the retros/brakes button. The EX romhack has original content levels made for 60fps.The only way to fix the framerate cap is measuring the framerate throughout the 3 paths you can take, the entire game, and stretching out the enemy spawns and the levels accordingly.
>>12786241Also the 60fps patches took extensive research and trial and error. Vibe coders don't care about how the code interacts with the hardware and the other hacks that were made to make it sellable.
>>12785950Slop Fox
It's not the dev's fault but I hate how bad tooling is for building C projects. And git submodules are a good idea but the way they're handled by git is kind of a pain in the ass.I hope someone glues it together better into a single build invokation after putting your hash matched rom into the right spot.I'm not in the mood to read all this just to build when every other modern project has spoiled me with sane standard build systems that are typically 1 bare command, not an entire separate program and scripting language like cmake and -DFuckHugeCustomArbitraryFlagShit
>>12786262some zoomer will play this vibecoded port, complain the enemy placement is bad (more likely he wont actually notice whats wrong and just say the game is bad) make a shitty tiktok or youtube video about it, and the other 99.9% of zoomies will say the game sucks because they heard it sucks from the guy who played the shitty portThey could ofcourse play the original in a cycle accurate emulator, but 'the fps jank, it hurts my eyes, i just cant'
>>12785639it's running on linux
> amazing new projects being created at very low cost and effort> NOOOOO YOU CANT DO THAT, ITS AI!!!
Anons in here actually defending a game that runs at 10fps as the better choice. Yeah it’s a classic but why would you not want it upgraded
>>12786392Because upgrading it takes effort. Nobody wants machine translated AIslop.
>>12785639Get a job, parasite.
>>12786380For me it's the hypocrisy. Ive played all kinds of these fan projects over the years. Remakes, sourceports, emulators, recomps and I can't tell you how many times I've seen people report bugs or ask about features only to get responses like, "why don't you code it yourself then? make a pull request if you think it's so bad" or "this is a project made in someone's free time, you should be grateful you're able to play it in the 1st place" but now we're getting "whoa there, this was vibe coded, that means it has bugs. I repeat, this open source project has bugs, it's irredeemable trash."If it's so bad then fork it and fix it :)
>>12786336We actually put up with low framerates just because it was deemed acceptable for the chips at the time. It's our version of the soap opera effect. A decomp of OoT works just fine. Looks a bit odd to our old eyes. Then you have legit oddities like FF7 that never looks right. Star Fox SNES is one of those things that's completely fine with slowdown removed but the gameplay and presentation are massively different without a map/level facelift.
>>12786380>shit vibe coded decomps with no proofreading>new
>>12786140The camera needs manual tweaking
>>12786380>at very low effortwhy yes, that does make a project less impressive and interesting to me.
>>12786418Without ai it would take 20x more effort
>>12786461>If it's so bad then fork it and fix it :)Who's that directed at? The player who's discovering yet another type of shit ports? What makes *your* shit port privileged? Your speech about "progress" like how some localizer would show a she-goblin and say it's "progressive" too? What makes *you* on the player's side? That you're dissing some other bad dev to distract from how you're an even worse scammer playing pretend dev? You're spiritually a tranny and soon to be a physically microchipped tranny.
>>12786517Do you still wear clothes assembled by hand too?
>>12786517>that does make a project less impressive and interesting to meWhy yes, bugs and horrible gameplay in bad ports tend to make them less impressive and interesting to players no matter what lies the developer says to the press about the gigaflops and gorillion porygon count and tranny tracing. No one cares about what your ilk (the shit dev) thinks>>12786527>muh effortNot my problem, won't make the effort to play-suffer through a bad port
>>12786536If the clothes are filled with holes, the sleaves aren't physically attached, the pants have needles that can chop the dick of the wearer whenever needing to pee, and it completely rips with specific hand movements, and then the designer is bragging how he didn't need to learn about clothes and how that effort is for suckers when his new machine can do that, plus some deranged rant about traditional clothes, then yeah these would not make for very good clothes and I would blacklist that vendor treating me as his guinea pig.
>>12786580That’s how ai was in 2022 and things are moving very fast. It’s like saying you refuse to buy a gamecube because you think 2d pixel graphics suck
>>12786462removing the slowdown fucks the gameplay, starfox-ex proves this
>>12786686People keep forgetting the gameplay was designed specifically around the hardware limitations, and consider it "better" just because it runs at 60FPS. Or maybe they don't care and want to get it out as quick as possible so they can get that dopemine hit of people crediting them for something that AI did 90% of.
>>12786686>>12786724AIslop aside. The 60fps romhack for Star Fox SNES is not the same gameplay but it is fun and accurate to how it would've actually played.
>>12786165it was there before, then he removed it
>>12786730 (cont.d)The way the engine works in AIslop Star Fox SNES never would've left Argonaut's studios. It's not faithful or gameplay tested at all.
>>12786737How does it compare to just overclocking the SuperFX chip on an emulator?
>>12786743OCing SuperFX and CPU removes slowdown but it's still set in code to render every 3rd frame or something. Then after fixing that, there's still more work to do. Now the game runs 3 times faster with no slowdowns so you'll have to use memorization to deal with enemy waves without superhuman reflexes. Basically the levels are now compressed.

>>12786768Interesting! Thanks for the explanation.
>>12785615This is the same dude that did the Starfox Exploration Showcase mod, and whilst he is vibecoding this project this is only preview stuff, it's not a finished thing. He left a pretty bad impression on the Mister FPGA community recently though, because he okayed vibecoded cores for arcade ports based on MAME emulation.Learned about it from Vitor Vilela's feed, the guy that's done a bunch of SA-1 performance hacks for SNES games and is currently working on a deluxe version of SimCity SNES.He's also admitted to using AI tools to assist his work.

It runs too fast even when set to the original speed. I know the original version had a 20 FPS cap but I don't think it was actually running at 20 FPS most of the time. Seems like it needs to be closer to 15 to match the actual game pace.
>>12787196>Doing this with something you asked AI to write for you is extra levels of pathetic.FTFY
>>12786428wait what i do?

>>12786165I cloned the repo before they removed it. Just `git checkout 396eebbdc2c440403734be111a3642ed5fe05d7f` afterwards and you'll have `dist/StarFoxEnhanced/starfox_pc.exe`.
>>12787205It never shipped with any rom content. A user-supplied rom was always required.
>>12787208The current commit has the binary back in the repo. No need to do that.
It's a fucking beta that just released anyway, I'm not going to bother until it's a little farther along. Complaining about it right now is stupid, it's like complaining that the current state of PS5 emulators can't run jack shit. And honestly, I'll take a vibe-coded decomp over yet another damn recomp, that's essentially just emulation with extra steps that only works on a single game. 99% of the time you just hear about recomps these days instead of full decomps.
>>12787212The commit I reference doesn't require the rom, so that's something. Assuming they didn't force push to the remote and remove it that way.
>>12787220>It's a fucking beta that just released anywayThey needed the clout as soon as possible. Only reason this "project" exists anyway.
>>12787226Yay? It won't get any of the updates. I have all of these roms already anyway. Every oldriend should by now.
>>12787251Well when they push up a change worth going through the trouble of compiling the project I'll update. Hopefully they fix the sound soon.

>>12787242You realize even the Mario64 decomp was a publicly available github that has been in the works and updated for years until it was finally in any usable state right? Just because someone put up a github does not mean they want clout, the whole fucking point of a github is so others can contribute.
>>12787268>You realize even the Mario64 decomp was a publicly available github that has been in the works and updated for years until it was finally in any usable state right? It wasn't made and rushed out for clout. Point went over your head.
>>12787272>Claims point went over my head>My entire point was that a github of a WIP project is by no means an indicator of rushing something out for clout>This point went over his head
>>12787281I never said github had anything to do with it. People are pushing out these projects vibe coded as fast as they can just for clout. You'd have to be blind to not notice the pattern. Even a beta shouldn't have glaring vibe coded related issues.
>>12785615nice.now port it to mips handhelds like the rg300x. i know it will work great since sm64 runs perfect.
>>12786625Nah I'll choose to believe my lying eyes seeing those floaty buildings and descynced enemy attacks over your intangible drivel about the history and potential of your new religion
>>12787268>You realize even the Mario64 decomp was a publicly available github that has been in the works and updThe authors went out of their way to avoid shouting it's 100%, they put disclaimers everywhere that this isn't usable, and won't yet lead to pc ports or enhancements, unlike this>>12787220>Complaining about it right now is stupidHow so? PS5 emulators and the sm64 decomps are open to feedback, and it's used to fix the project. WHY does the vibecoded shit port need special treatment? Is it because there's no interest in fixing these issues ("muh precious effort" after all) and every intention to hide and downplay those issues as much as possible (can't mess with the clout cycle after all)?
