mister other fpga/asic clone consoles

just got my superstation one whats everyone think of it / mister?

thing ive found annoying is you cant use a different controller along with a real memory card, id like to use real memory card but dont have any ps1 controllers in good condition.

You cant plug a shitty one into the second controller port and use that memory slot?

does ps1let you save to 2nd slot memory as standard? i can set the second slot to use it

ss1 seems cool. If I can get one next batch with a fan I will.

do they have heat issues? will probably take like a year to get it btw

Of course.
When you go to save in a ps1 game it asks which memory card.
>>
>>12786702
Ive read they run hot, thats why they even added a fan option to the shop. I dont mind waiting or not ending up with one, my current mr serves me well. I like the analog out conveniences of the ss though.
>>
>>12786253
I've considered getting one, but I already have a raspberry pi for my CRT needs, and I don't really care about muh accuracy. I also don't know if the ones being sold in Aliexpress are good or not, and I'd rather buy there because I save on shipping fees.

It doesn't have any heating issues but there are some out of spec experimental cores that run very hot and benefit from extra cooling.

So does the M64 work with the NSO controllers right now or do I need to wait for a later firmware update? The FAQ just says Wireless Nintendo 64® (“NSO”, with an adapter) without actually explaining what the fuck that means.
>>
>>12787563
It only works with something like a blueretro receiver. I'm personally waiting for an update to ever drive support since saves don't work on it apparently. Krikz says they're going to patch it in the next release
>>
>>12786696
the fan does nothing
>>
>>12786715
they added the option because people wanted it. it does next to nothing because there is nowhere to pull cool air into the console.

the altera chip in the ss1 has a higher heat rating than the one in the de10 nano. I think the only reason theyd run hot is if you use anything other than a 5v psu. a 12v psu will be converted into 5v and that results in heat being dumped into the unit
>>
>>12787572
i havent had an issue with saves but to be fair ive only had time to play a few hours here and there over the last few weeks.
>>
>>12787583
It's pretty random. Oot works but pokemon snap freaks out for trying to save. Mario can't save either. Combined with the pro controller not having the virtual memory pack functioning yet, I can't trust the console to save anything reliably for now

There needs to be a new producer for old dualshocks, the market is cornered with really bad chinese replicas where none of the sticks are calibrated right

PS1 and 2 are kind of a treasure mine for all sorts controllers, especially in Japan. AFAIK there's no way to use PS SNAC ports on the SS1 with the other MiSTer cores as yet (unless there's a fork I missed?) so maybe worth getting a USB converter to use them on other cores/systems as well.
>>
>>12788410

yeah surprised theres not some company making close to original controllers

im not even sure ill use the other cores got this for ps1 games mostly, although might try gba out i normally play using my gamecube and an actual cart though so doubt ill stick with it. im fine using my ds3 for anything else anyway

I made a custom mister case years ago out of an electrical box. cut a giant whole out of the steel top and installed a noctua fan with a dust filter. the only core mine performs better at than a no fan mister sandwich stack is the memory tester, since the ram is being cooled.

bought a SS1 because I found a crt on the curb, the only crt I told myself that if I could find one cheap and in good condition I would get it, and there it is free. it was less hassle and probably cheaper to get a ss1 than add analogue ports to my mister. not worried about cooling it down at all.

>>12787579
>the altera chip in the ss1 has a higher heat rating than the one in the de10 nano
you must be confused. The SS1 has a de10 nanon inside, and the de10 nano is made by Altera. what did you mean by that quote?
>>
>>12787126
i cringed
>>
>>12787573
it does do 'something', someone did a temp measurement with and without it, but it made little difference, about 10 celcius
>>
>>12789096
why are you not worried about cooling the SS1, but installed a noctua onto a MisterFPGA?
>>
>>12789119
I dunno I dont buy a lot of USB-C power related stuff. Just google that shit NIGGA.

You obviously want 5v 4amps at least though
>>
>>12789535
Oh it looks like hamgeek uses barrel jack.

I believe triad is a good brand.
>>
When my SS1 finally arrives, im just gonna plug in my DualSense, 8bitdo 64, and M30, Dont see the point in plugging in a controller using SNAC if hte latency of the DualSense and M30 are low enough wired.

>>12789104
>>12789106
I wish I bought the dock, i have loads of spare NVME drives and would be nice to plug one into the SS1.
>>
I still want to do this one day, I imagine component prices have also gotten expensive for a set? I actually haven't paid attention to this scene in the last year or so. From the pictures I'm guessing a lot more custom boxes to set them in are popping up.
>>
>>12789552
Theres:

Terassic (The original and overpriced version)
MisterPi (the first to really clone it in quality and good price)

QMtech (chinese)
Hamgeek (chinese)
The chinese ones people say work basically the exact same but I cannot confirm.
>>
>>12789607
Then theres:

Superstation One
M64
Analogue (various Systems)
>>
>>12789539
You might need to modify some .ini file if you want fast usb polling always on for 2.4g controllers
>>
>>12789461
nta but your confused de10 nano is the specific board everyone uses for mister. the fpga they both use is the altera cyclone v
>>
>>12789670
I did assume there is a de-10 nano in the ss1, which i just learned there is not.
But that wasnt really the point i was making.
Anon said:
>the altera chip in the ss1 has a higher heat rating than the one in the de10 nano
But the altera chip, which is the Cyclone V (right?), is the same Cyclone V FPGA chip in both the SS1 and the de-10 board, so how can they have different heat ratings?
>>
>>12789681 >>12789670

thanks for making me realize that btw, now the whole QMTech board stuff all makes alot more sense to me.

I've been wondering, wouldn't you be able to get the cost down of things like the GameBub (using AMD Xilinx XC7A100T) by replacing the FPGA with a ASIC that just has the FPGA 'core' baked into it? ASICs must be alot cheaper then FPGAs.

Economies of scale
>>
>>12789707
if the cost of the final product is much lower, gamebub costs about 250 euro, but you can get it down to 100, there might be enough customers that it would become viable. Plus from what chatgpt estimated (i might not have given it a realistic scenario since i have no idea how big of an ASIC you need to map a FPGA onto an ASIC, it could be very low, if you could get it down to 50 euro per ASIC chip which according to ChatGPT was realistic. since the Xilinx XC7A100T FPGA costs around 180 euro, you can cut that gamebub price down to 150. maybe more if the ASIC is cheaper
>>
>>12789716 (cont.)
Its just me dreaming if someday we can see someone turning a Saturn/N64/PS1 FPGA core into an ASIC and sell it as a cheap but accruate clone console
