CRTs are simply better for all kind of games because of the lack of latency which modern displays forced on us have.
Also I remember how people just accepted new flat TVs when they started becoming more accessible back in the mid to late 00s, people didn't even care about how bad most of it looked (a lot of them didn't even have HDMI at first, and a lot of people who bought flat modern displays weren't even aware you had to use an HDMI cable, I remember TV channels didn't all have HD signals), but people still accepted it all, because "new good".
Can you blame them? new good was the expected mentality after previous decades in relation to technology, especially 80s and 90s

people liked flat screens because they didn't weigh 70 goddamn pounds for a 27 inch screen
>>
>>12787326
That's not even heavy.
>>
They were adopted quickly because they were bigger screens. Everyone always wanted a huge TV, but CRT's and plasma TVs were massive. They took up a ton of space and they were super heavy. With flat panels you could get a 42inch TV and it didn't weigh much. You didn't even need a stand for it because you could hang it on the wall.

They were also a lot cheaper.

This post was not worth a thread.
>>
>>12787343
I got a decent fap out of it so that's good enough for me
>>
>>12787338
The final redpill is that 21" is the biggest a screen should be
>>
>>12787350
My current TV is 65 inches and it's literally my favorite Tv I've ever had (including CRTs)
>>

What makes you say this?

They're better but for most of us even in this web ring it's a matter of convenience. Having an all-in-one setup for work, web browsing, and playing video games is hard to top in that regard. But if you have the desk space for it you can put your CRT TV next to your computer monitor and have the best of both worlds.
>>
with all the crt wank I'm surprised there isn't a business for producing new ones

>didn't even have HDMI at first
technically VGA ports can output more colours and higher res than old HDMI 1.0. they shilled HDMI because muh new STANDARD and memes about digital being zero interference compared to analog VGA.

make Plasmas great again. i don't about input lag
>>
I went through the seventh gen with a crt. I'm sure now I'd have more of an appreciation of its features but then the lack of clarity 480p was a constant hindrance. getting an ugly lcd 720p was like night and day in making stuff out cleanly even with the worse motion performance.
>>
>>12787481
480i whatever.
>>
>>12787481
That could all be resolved by making bigger letters.
I also played 7th gen on CRT, much better gameplay than on the intended HD screens

I don't agree, the lack of clarity extended beyond ui issues.

>>12787537
Never noticed any lack of clarity, if anything everything looks better on CRT while on smart TVs things look stretched

I owned the last, great Sony 32" CRT. Got rid of it the last time I moved, because it was a total pain in the ass to move.
I use LG C series OLEDs now and have no regerts.

HD CRTs are nice for 7th gen. Not the easiest to find though
>>
Playing Xbox360 games on a 4:3 CRT sucked ass, and i experienced the tiny text on Dead Rising first hand lol. still had lots of fun playing the game, but it also cropped off so much of the screen on games

There isn’t any demand,
Five or six posters here isn’t demand,
The rest of the world knows CRTs aren’t very good.
>>
>>12787974
even if they knew CRTs have benefits for retro games, they dont play retro games, and even if they did, a smaller portion of them still would want to deal with a heavy CRT

>7th gen

I see you're full of shit.
>>
>>12788176
Yes? I was playing 7th gen into the 2010s
>>
>>12788183
Still don't believe you, I started 7th gen with a CRT and jumped up to a plasma. The plasma was a significantly better experience for 7th gen overall. None of that "stretching" you made up happened either, probably because 7th gen was the first real 16:9 gen.
>>
>>12788187
The stretch happens with SD games, not HD 7th gen ones.
But unlike SD games looking bad on HD displays, HD games don't look bad at all on SD displays, only problem being small fonts
>>
>>12787261
this has been debunked.

CRTs fucking suck they're hot and noisy and look like shit smearing all colors and motion and heavy as fuck.

good. riddance to those pieces of shit, if I see one intact on the side of the road I put a rock through it. you have to be over 30 years old to post on this board
>>
>>12788198
Ok Mr. Samsung
>>
>>12788195
Wrong about that too, because my plasma has component, composite, vga, s-video and it doesn't stretch a thing. I actually started retro collecting back when I got it so I would know, I played a shit ton of N64, Genesis and PS1 on the thing. So maybe it's a poor thing, I mean you're bitching about a shitty smart tv.
>>
>>12788212
plasma is peak television technology without a doubt

I had a very dope one I got for free that was heavy as fuck and 50", one of Samsungs last plasma's. had 2 or 3 HDMI's @ 1080p plus component & composite. could do it all. great blacks. ran a bit hot and ungodly heavy but fantastic pictures and colors.
>>
>>12787261
>preaching towards the choir on a done to death basic topic

Awful thread OP. Shame on you.
>>
>>12788198
Based truth.
>>
>>12787768
I initially played my 360 on a 4:3 dell crt monitor. I set the console to 1080p, then used the monitor picture settings to squish the image into a letterbox using a test pattern. it looked so goddamn good.
>>
>>12787921
especially the ones on HRT
>>
>>12788249
does plasma work with light guns
>>
>>12788024
its not even the weight. its having a huge box with 99% of the weight coming from just one side of it making it awkward as fuck to carry
>>
>>12787338
the 27" monitor i'm using isn't much bigger than the TV's I watched as a kid. Anything larger than that is pretty unwieldy I think. I want to be able to grab the thing without much effort.
>>
>>12787334
yes it is, fuck you
>>
>>12787334
You're not bench pressing the TV you chud fucking retard, you're carrying it upstairs and shit that's the problem
>>
Besides the delay and scaling at low resolutions. That's it, they were heavy and used a lot of power.
>>
>nooo crts suck I can't fit one into my tiny zoomer bugman apartment
>>
>>12788249
what console should I use with plasma to play games and dvds?
>>
>>12788747
PC over HDMI.
Emulate.
>>
>>12787380
At this point I think it's more worthwhile to improve input lag and motion clarity at the firmware level with current display tech (like Pulsar but not just for TN and IPS panels).
There's a software solution for it if you have a 120hz+ monitor (also a shader in Retroarch).

>>
>>12788747
I would use an XBONE for blu rays and DVDs over HDMI on a plasma. if it only has 720p XBONE still might be preferable. PS2 even with component will be really smeared like a turd in a windshield wiper.

for games I would plug in whatever console you want. n64, ps2, maybe a SNES and/or a Wii with a nice virtual console library. plus the XBONE for movies, tv, music (NOT RETRO GAMING)

>>12788547
I dont think it does but I never tried. only ever played Wii shooting games on a plasma which obviously is not the same thing Duck Hunt is doing.

They're incredibly expensive to produce for a niche market.
>>
>>12789208
There are a few companies in the US that still make them but they're usually for military applications and airports. They have the means of production so hopefully it is only a matter of time until one of them decides to start selling to the general public.

Hey stupid, this is painfully obvious an AI picture with an actual game screenshot mounted >>12787760, look at the melted hole pattern!

Speaking of, i saw a couple of months ago someone dumping an old flat fat HD CRT that was a plasma, but i knew those were horrible for 240p and anything below 7th gen or for composite, so i didnt picked it up.

For 3d games do you prefer 240p or 480i? Or compromise with a smaller crt monitor with 480p?

480 stretches the image unless its originally at 480
