What do you think of Friday the 13th for the NES? I think this game is FUCKING HORRIBLE!
frightening, confusing game as a small child
>>12787321This must be the only nes game with jumpscares, and they actually work.
if it was a Megami Tensei spinoff everyone would love it
>>12787321I like everything about it except I don't understand what I'm actually supposed to do. I just keep switching characters until everyone is dead.
>>12787450emulationbros were the only westerners who knew what the fuck megaten was until 2004.it is a pretty decent use of the megaten engine though.
>>12787321They tried to do something different, so I give them credit for that, but the game is too hard and its systems are too obscured to the player.
>>12787321a truly spooky game that comes across as outdated and silly nowadaysi would probably shit my pants if i had this cartridge in my possession as a kid and fought jason in a hopeless game i'd never win in a billion years
>>12787460You're supposed to be protecting the children in the cabins while trying to track down and kill Jason. I think you need to kill Jason 3 times to actually beat the game. Other than that you basically spend your time getting better weapons and upgrades to make the Jason fights easier
>>12787321it has some good ideas, but suffered the short development policies and cheapass of that time at LJN. shame. it could have genuinely been good with more polish.
>>12787321I think it's in the upper tiers of the NES library and one of the only horror games. It's obtuse, but the atmosphere and music is great. I've never beaten it, but I always enjoy playing it. Maybe this Halloween I'll see if I can finally finish the game along with Sweet Home.
in hindsight its kinda strange that jason is going around killing children off screen. in the movies he only kills sex havers and seemingly has no qualms with little kids (not that they are ever at the camp anyway). also whats up with the psychedelic colors on the cover? odd choice
>>12787450Do you say that because Atlus made it?
>>12787892Ya, it had some of the same staff iirc
>>12787876I mean he didn't have a problem with trying to kill the FeldDog in Part 4, and part 6 had a bunch of little kids he threatened
It's one of those games that probably wasn't playtested outside of the devs themselves. If you go in blind, you will get filtered since you won't understand what the game is expecting you to do. Oh sure, you'll get that you need to fight Jason, that killing enemies makes better weapons appear, and maybe that there is some sort of bonus for lighting a fire in the fireplace of every big cabin. But are you going to know that you should use the forest to harvest medicine jars, or the best cabins to leave your people so you can quickly respond to Jason attacks? Once you have maps of the forest and cave, and understand the game mechanics that aren't explained in the manual, then you should be able to take down Jason at least once.
Excellent atmosphere and very ambition game for it's time. It's surprisingly complex with a lot of moving parts to learn (if you care to). I cant imagine beating this without force spawning the torch at the beginning, without that the difficulty is pretty absurd. When you do force spawn the torch the game takes maybe 15 minutes to beat and is actually pretty fun to do a quick playthrough from time to time.
>>12787321good ideaclunky executionthe game rushes you to save the kids from Jason, but at the same time they make navigation confusing while also filling the paths to the cabins to the brim with bullshit to avoid
>>12788023Jason wasn't himself anymore in part 6, that's when he was revived from the grave by lightning. There's a small trace of his earlier personality when that one little girl sees him in the cabin and she closes her eyes and he just passes on by without harming her. The rest of the movie he's killing everything he sees. Canon Jason is Part 2, 3, and 4, he wasn't actually in the first one, the one in 5 was a copycat, and 6 onwards is Superzombie Jason with teleportation powers. And I don't blame him one bit for trying to kill Corey Felding in part 4. Everyone watching the movie was hoping he would do it.

>>12789908The characters in 3 and 4 weren’t even connected to the camp at all. Jason was just trespassing and killing them for no apparent reason.
