The original Xbox is a fantastic console. What is something that you like about the original xbox?

>Huge risk and passion project by Ed Fries and Seamus Blackley
>Seamus Blackley wanted to make Dreamcast 2
>xbox was x86, it ran a customized pentium iii and NVIDIA GeForce 4 hybrid with an additional vertex shader unit, higher clocks, and some
features from the new architecture. Nvidia built a true high-end GPU for Microsoft
>Xbox would have an AMD CPU inside but Bill made a deal with Intel the day before the reveal
>Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, it's competitors required the Dolby Pro Logic 2 codecs
>Xbox was released at $299 in November 2001
>Microsoft stopped making the original Xbox because Nvidia wouldn't cut the price of the GPUs or at least not enough for Microsoft's liking, a few years after it got launched
>Xbox was codenamed Project Midway (Pearl Harbor)
>Microsoft lost over 4 billion dollars selling the OG Xbox at a loss

They should have licensed and sold it under the Sega brand in Japan

I liked it as an introductory console for easy regular online multiplayer. I liked it as a secondary console, but not sure how I'd feel if it was all I had. My grandma got me one for Christmas one year when I already had a ps2 and mostly played that. Some games were awesome to play back then for someone without a PC to game (Like Morrowind and Counter Strike). I liked soft modding it with an action replay and a copy of Splinter Cell.

I got it christmas 2004 when I was 16 and at my peak edgy phase. It seemed like the badass console cool jock guys played.

Anyway in the end, Halo 2 multiplayer made it all worth it.

I loved how I could burn my CD's to it and play my music from the console. Lot of time was spent just aimlessly driving around in GTASA and Forza listening to music.

All about the games, although the online and homebrew scene is absolutely killer.

I just liked playing Halo and Star Wars Battlefront with my friends
Would the Xbox be a good console to hook up to a plasma screen and watch dvds on?

How dogshit it was. I wanted a PS2 or GameCube, but my dad and uncle wanted an Xbox for exactly one game. So we compromised, and my Christmas gift one year was an Xbox I touched like four times in the span of three years until I got a PS2. This was good because it got me into retro gaming, that used to be cheap in the early 2000's.

Thanks you two absolute nobodies! You made my childhood monumentally worse with your dogshit passion project that had one good exclusive that Microsoft didn't even make! Thank you guys! You're the best!!!

>Microsoft lost over 4 billion dollars selling the OG Xbox at a loss
This makes me feel better tho. Almost as good as watching Microsoft crash and burn out of the industry. But that's not retro.

Are you that fag who wrote that blogpost about your stoner uncle wanting to watch you change clothes in your room?

Being able to rip CD's to the console and play music from them in certain games was a very cool and novel feature at the time.

I can tell you grew up in a poor household, the bitterness of your rumination gives it away. I on the other did not grow up poor and had a GC, PS2 and Xbox.

That tracks, low class household behaviour.

The logo for the original Xbox is a perfect representation of the console itself.

Same, got to experience half life 2 and doom 3 because of xbox

Multiplat games just feel so much more premium on this console. GTA 3 took a while to arrive to Xbox but it was worth it for the custom soundtracks, improved graphix and driving with analog trigger.
Even games i thought were crap on PS2 like Godzilla Save the Earth and Spawn Armageddon ended up being a lot more enjoyable on Xbox just due to the better graffix and running at 60FPS instead of 30 with constant drops.

It was made for the most soulless reason of
>oh no no no people are gonna leave windows
but somehow made a pretty sovlful console.

Wasn't the story pretty much along the lines of Microsoft worried that Sony could partner with broadcasters and ISP's to keep them out of living room entertainment?
>>
>>12787512
I originally asked for a gamecube but the person at the store convinced my mother to get an xbox. Honestly I was super happy woth it. I had the disc that had JSRF and sega gt 2002. Got Halo 1 and 2 , Fable , KotOR , Deus ex 2 , rogue agent and a few others. I have small hands and liked the controller as well. I did later need to get the free power cable swap as i heard it crackling one night.

I wouldnt turn on when i tried it few years after getting a 360. So used it as a doorstop for a while.

okay.

Loved the emphasis on multiplayer Coming from the 64, this was my favorite of the three next gen consoles. So many good party games and my personal favorite fps deathmatch/multiplayer in the original Halo. Getting insanely good with the pistol makes you a force right off the bat and it had limited gimmicky shit. The sheer amount of multiplayer games is wonderful. Stand outs for me beyond Halo were DOA extreme volleyball, Brute Force (it’s good for a romp), splinter cell lanned multiplayer is some of the most fun I’ve ever had in gaming, tiger woods 2004, burnout 3, def jam fight for ny, the Star Wars battlefront games and more got a lot of multiplayer playtime in my social circle.

Mine randomly stopped working one day. Apparently there's a big old capacitor that's prone to going bad. Then the 360 came out and my friends l had it but randomly one day everyone's consoles started blinking red and stopped working. I stopped buying Microsoft consoles after that.
