Once i could dock the ship it was a favorite of mine just cause of the upgrade system

Why do I always see a million copies of this game everywhere I go?

One of my favorites as a kid. My cousins had it so it was one of those games you never got to master but always looked forward to playing
>>
still have the cartridge in my closet. Top NES game.

Technically impressive, dragged down by brutal hard difficulty and the damn Top-Gun combat sections where you earn the upgrade coins, and the needless docking segments.
The shootemup parts are the best, still surprised there weren't more shootemup games that used a '3D' landscape and altitude to give a bit more to gameplay than just moving left/right/back/forward. Even then they can be ball-busting hard, especially on the ones where you have to defeat a base at the end and the timing window to pass the enemy's attack is very short due to the guns being half an inch away from your plane.
The Top Gun clone segments are the same crap as Top Gun, except without the ghetto 3D-ish effect where you had to fly around in circles trying to land a hit. Then the docking segments are something that is just "Ooops, you made a mistake, you lost a life" when you finally get the timing right.
6/10. The shootemup part is 9/10, but the other crap and the brutal difficulty hold it back.

Why does he have his eyes closed?

I had it as a kid, it was pretty fun when you were going super fast.

The docking station, I don't get why they gave you the option to move left or right when it would then become impossible to align for docking.

This isn't nearly on the same level but Isolated Warrior on NES has jumping

I remember walking by this game on the shelf at my local video store in the early 90's
