REmake still looks gorgeous 24 years later. Almost every frame is as beautiful as a painting

The mismatched resolution between the character and the background art looks horrible. It makes it clear that she's just floating in front of a .jpg image or whatever. The visuals break down if not played at the intended resolution.

So, are we just gonna go back and forth between which is great and which is shit?

Aside from that, I do wish someone would just replicate the pre-rendered backgrounds in Blender. I wouldn't care if it wasn't 1:1, as long as it looks good in HD, and fits to the art style. I mean, shit, all the effort to let an AI upscale the image, and someone could just plop in some basic geometry to match where objects go.
>>
>>12788061
Same. It really is a shame that we never got more use out of the REmake engine.

I don't like that the Library was turned into a shitty boss arena where you just follow the snake around a bookcase while shooting/stabbing it in the ass. I would have had it ambush the player in the garden shed on the way back to open up the caves (like in the original RE trade show demos) and moved the boss fight out to the courtyard area. If I was feeling really ambitious, I'd figure out some way to load the upper and lower parts of the courtyard at the same time to make a 2-tier area so the player could either kill the snake or run around up and down the elevators and across the pond (with no loading screens) using the crank and battery while it tries to attack them.

I played REmake on Gamecube again and I really do think it looks so much better than the HD remasters. It feels like a ton of DoF and focusing effects were removed in the cutscenes, the FMVs are all terrible quality compared to what it on the Gamecube disc, and the backgrounds no longer perfectly mesh with the character models and shadows to create a seemless image without looking like the backgrounds are prerendered.
>>
>>12791143
Yeah, you really do need to be a genuine RE1 fan to enjoy REmake. It's so cleverly made to both meet and subvert your expectations, it's an absolute masterclass of a remake and the standard that all remakes should aspire to.

Not only meets the quality of the original but surpasses it in every way.
The perfect survival horror game and the game that made Resident Evil scary again.

One of the very rare examples of a true and proper remake.
>waited till there was a genuine and vast graphical leap
>kept the foundation, smoothed out the edges, and implemented a lot of ideas that they wanted to put into the original
>added additional content that felt in line with the rest of the game

You really don't ever see this sort of thing anymore. It's sad this kind of treatment was and still is such a rarity.

>>
>>12788226

>>
The biggest problem with Remake is not the backtracking or cliché mansion

It's just don't feel nearly as good to play, the original was super snappy, responsive and precise while the remake slowed down everything and added a tons of animation that make the game much less responsive and precise
>>
>>12791291

Remember that in the demake of resident evil 1 the zombies turn into crimson heads, and the fuel canten takes one space in the inventory, and it can only takes 2 fills of use before you need to refill it again in a kerosene container room. So that means, in the demake of resident evil 1 there is even MORE backtracking than usual because you need to burn the zombies before they turn into crimson heads.

yea bro,the remake that came out on the next console after the one the original came out on was a huge leap but the RE2 one that came out 20 years after the OG is no leap and trash that turned an action packed puzzles-less game into an actual survival horror,ITS TRASH not like REmake that use the same gameplay as the OG but with addition that only make it slower and more tedious to play, thank you shinji mikami chan.

>>
>>12791473
i was being sarcastic anon, despite the things it could have done better like the A/B scenario it is in my opinion one of the greatest survival-horror ever made,it actually is what people claim resident evil always was (when it really wasnt),the map layout is actually interesting while backtracking and dodging Mr.X with the multiple route you can take, since shooting at zombies/B.O.W actually requires you to aim precisely coupled with the fact that ammo is scarce and there is more zombies means you can actually run out or almost run out of ammo, and while the puzzles arent anything mindblowing it is still vastly superior to the OG with stuff like the chess piece plug now being a neat little puzzle while they were basically just keys in the OG.

Nothing the game adds is in the spirit of the original game. The only people who would ever say this have never played the original game.
The literal first thing the REmake does is make you go outside, when the entire basis of the game is that the team is trapped inside the mansion because of the dogs. Not even mentioning the entire revamp of the mansion, the endless pit that the mansion is somehow hovering over, the seaworld exhibit built under a guardhouse, the magic super zombies who never exist at any other point in time, or the immortal 8 year old who lives on the grounds.
REmake changes and butchers as much than any other remake ever made.

I don't care about weapon animation differences, the real difference between the games is movement animation and fluidity, which is much better in the orginal. REmake (and 0) is badly exaggerated and you actually feel like you're controlling a tank instead of a person.
You think theres only one person pointing shit out thats wrong with this game, when its obvious to anyone whos actually played both. Which is why you ignored the only post I made in this thread before which was >>12791764

>You think theres only one person pointing shit out thats wrong with this game
A couple of schizos spamming /v/ and /vr/ for years over REmake with the same exact "complaints" every single time OR one schizo, it doesn't matter.
The fact is that you have to pretend like every difference is a flaw or an insult while you also literally tell lies like how RE1 gives you 4 paths to go through the mansion from the start or the weapon animation timings. That's sad.
>>
>>12791843
>objectively, you posted video from the remaster. and objectively it is slightly faster to reload and grip in the remaster.
Since you made the claim, prove it.

Video or documentation on the web, anything.
I'll wait.
You should be able to "objectively" show that Gamecube and HD version of REmake have different animation timings for weapons.

Keep in mind that you and I are both aware that literally nobody has ever talked about this but (You) and nobody on this board thinks you aren't samefagging right here.
>>
>>12791863
>A couple of schizos spamming /v/ and /vr/ for years over REmake with the same exact "complaints" every single time
What an idiotic statement. You are aware that REmake was completed 25 years ago and is not receiving any kind of updates? There is nothing thats going to change whats wrong with it. People point out the same shit because those are the issues with the game.
>>
>>12791876
If you had to show someone a game that best represented "survival horror," it would be REmake.

RE1 would be laughed at and all modern releases use the very easy Japanese versions meaning that they don't even have to manage their ammo or health carefully.

So, no, you can't provide a single shred of evidence.
Not a video.
Not a some social media post.
Not even a forum message.

You realize how bad this makes you look, right?
You're the one bringing up the animation speeds in the first place and when challenged you first tried to claim everyone else agreed with you before realizing you couldn't find anyone at all who ever did agree with you, now or in the past.
>>
>>12791863

I remember one thread bitching about color choice or something. We need to bring back fucking sanitariums and it needs to be soon.
>>
>>12791929
You're either insane or retarded.

1. If REmake being 60fps makes animations twice as fast as Gamecube/Wii, then why doesn't the entire game run at double the speed including running speed and enemy speed?
2. REmake's remasters can be locked to 30 fps without issue same as the Gamecube/Wii. It's clearly listed in the options menu.
3. The framerate is not always tied to game speed. Most games since the NES/SNES era skip frames or display more frames without affecting the game speed.
>>
>>12787645
>thousand zombie cock stare
>>
>>12791951
>>12791954
The game slows down when it drops frames.
The game does NOT speed up when it is told to render at 60 fps.

If it did, literally everything would run at 2x the speed since that's how math works. Your 1.5x cope is laughable, since now you're changing how math works because you know that the game does not run faster and you know that any video footage would confirm this.
>ummm yeah but it IS slightly faster... very slight but its obvious, idiot!
You're so transparent.
>>
>>12791951
>faster text cycles and menus
>faster stair-skating
>overall player actions and movement feeling/performing quicker
This is just what happens when you have 60 chances to input in a second compared to 30 chances... it has absolutely nothing to do with game speed or animation speeds.

>changes in some enemy ai behavior
This is a bug. A lot of AI in older games breaks at higher than normal framerates usually because their routines count frames and so they (like the player) have more "chances" to choose an action than they would.
Again, nothing to do with game speed or animation speed.

I'm STILL waiting for you to show the weapon animations between the two.
You've been avoiding that since I first asked despite claiming it is visually obvious and would prove your point.
>>
>>12791918
>Never played RE1? It literally coined the term and proudly announced it was a new form of game called "survival horror."
Yeah and I already said I don't care what marketing term they made up. They're adventure games. They're designed and behave exactly like adventure games. Alone in the Dark was described as an adventure game. You are clearly very dumb and have no inner voice that can actually think for itself, which is why you get hung up on marketing terms and your only retort is "uhhhhh everyone told me it was good"

It requires no more thought than simply putting the red jewel in the tiger statue to get the Python in the original game, it just has a shitload of extra steps added to pad it out. That's the whole design ethos of the remake. Like removing the crates after you drain the Aqua Ring for no good god damn reason except to make you detour through a bunch of empty rooms and loading screens when you go back to use the V-Jolt.
>>

The "spirit" of RE is Mikami's taste and design sensibilities, the remake is very in line with the "spirit" of the original because it was also made by Mikami.
>>
>>12794085
The spirit of the original game was a campy B-movie that mixed in some very light conspiracy and religious themes. The overall tone was grounded and everything with some obvious exceptions like a giant semi-sentient plant monster, was kept relatively realistic and had thought put into it. Even the outlandish shit in the game was at least attempted to be made logical and explained.
REmake is a pretentious grimdark mishmash of like 8 different horror genres that all come off as stupid because everything is played straight and serious, but the content itself is completely haphazard and no thought is given to anything besides its initial impact. Which is why theres a fucking megalodon swimming around under a guardhouse, or a ancient tomb built over a bottomless pit that is somehow also connected to the mansion built directly on top of it and a secret lab that's also under it even though its a bottomless pit.

I don't usually say this about game writing, but naming it Plant 42 was some pretty clever wordplay. The whole game has kind of an X Files feel to it, and Plant 42 was part of the whole UFO/conspiracy lore back in the day. REmake is a clear textbook exemple of "style over substance" game

Original/Director's cut is objectively much more fun to play, the gameplay is tighter and faster, the pacing is miles better, more replayable with more alternative route (+arrange mode which is an amazing way too rediscover the game)

It should, because the original felt stiff and weird. The extra animation fleshes out the animation. It was already faster paced than Alone in the Dark.

Your arguments are shit and come down to basically just having a preference for a very specific, unreasonably rigid playstyle.

There is nothing stiff about the original RE. The controls are very responsive and arcade like. The games being "clunky" or whatever else only became a complaint a decade later, and mostly after 0 and REmake got remastered because they intentionally were designed that way. Every time you post you just reveal you have no actual experience with anything but REmake

Too bad they massacred it with the HD remaster. Most people won't get the authentic experience unless they want to suffer messing with the Shitcube.

Both REmake and 0 got ported to the Wii.

I don't understand why or how everyone forgot this. Especially given how easy it was to crack a Wii and just get all the games for free.

First time I played REmake was on the Wii's RE Archives release. I could never find the original Gamecube version anywhere in store or at my Blockbuster (same with the original Splinter Cell).

I played with a Gamecube controller anyway same as RE4 on Wii since the remote aiming was way too easy.

resident evil games always look retarded as shit when upscaled if they're not fully 3d

Too bad 2 and 7 are the only actually good Resident Evil games.

And maybe 4, if you want to play Max Payne but without Bullet Time, dual-wielding, shooting while jumping, good voice acting, or good story.
