Well videogames in general went downhill during 6th gen. It was the beginning of the modern era with sandbox urban sims and the like becoming the zeitgeist

RE4 was a flop on the Gamecube. It was also the worse RE game ever released. This forced Capcom to release it to the PS2, to make back whatever money they loss from making RE4.
