Catacomb 3-D. I’m 19, but my mom is a huge id Software groupie; she has photos with American McGee and both of the Carmacks.
Our dog's name is Keen kek.

I'm nearly 50 and I'm none the wiser. Maybe you have some kind of problem that has nothing to do with anyone else. Maybe you're the problem.
>>
>>12799526
Catacomb Abyss? One of the Catacomb games. I had a couple on Shareware discs back in the day. Carmack was always based.
>>
>>12799526

There game is the predecessor to Wolfenstein 3D by the guys at iD (when they were still at SoftDisk)
>>
>>12799526
About half of millennial retro gamers into old shooters haven't played Catacomb 3D or Hovertank 3D either.
It's because they never took the world by storm like Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake, did.

>>12799606
I could see Romero having illegitimate children somewhere.

It's funny how nintendies brag about their ignorance about DOS and computers in general. I bet they can't even google shit properly.
>>
>>12799526
Catacombs 3D is kino. never played the original 2D which looked more like Chip's Challenge.
Carmack is a genius pioneer in gaming.

I'm not a zoomer and I don't know however is it not the ID game they made before Wolfenstein 3D?

Catacomb 3-D?
>>
>>12800925
Specifically, they had some lingering obligations after the legal negotiations from their break with SoftDisk, so they farmed out some sequels to some of their older games to provide to them.
I forget which games exactly, and which devs, but it was a number of titles. I wanted to say FormGen, but thinking further, I think those guys were strictly publishers.

>>12801206
Yeah. It's like, ok, but a bit plain. I think it's telling that Wolfenstein 3D was a much bigger hit and remembered by more people, because it's a more fast paced and fun game.
It has neat graphics though.
>>
>>12800994
I'd have sex with him, and I would have sex with you.
>>
>>12801225
The only reason I know about Catacomb 3-D is because people talk about it in ID retrospectives or DOOM retrospectives.

Never played it myself. Surely, you need to be over 40 to remember that game?

>Wolfenstein 3D
I played wolf as a child now that I come back to it it is a boring maze shit.

DOOM is a far better game because you can orient yourself better thanks to the terrain looking different. While doom has some bad maps it is a better game overall.
>>
>>12801236
I'm 40 and only remember it from going through old shareware disks as a kid. If you did that you were almost assured to run into it
>>
>>12799526
Is that fucking Catacomb? If so, that's probably the first video game I ever played that wasn't an edutainment game.
>>
i forgot the name but i remember the 3d engine was slightly off it didn't quite turn right
>>
>>12799536
Wait, there's two Carmacks?
>>
>>12801690
John Carmack is the lead programmer, he put the engines together for iD Software (and the engines for when they were Gamer's Edge).
Additional programming was done by John Romero, primarily the level editing software for basically all their games, including Keen, Wolf 3D, Doom, and Quake, (also Heretic), and then they hired on Dave D. Taylor for doing basically all the heaps of small code stuff, like the status bar and automap.

Adrian Carmack is one of the artists, he did the bulk of the graphics on the old iD games, until they hired on Kevin Cloud. For Doom and Doom 2, they commissioned Don Ivan Punchatz to make the game's cover art, and he recommended his son, Greg Punchatz, to help them with making physical monster models for them to digitize.

There's no relation between John Carmack and Adrian Carmack, they just happen to have the same surname. I think Carmack is maybe a Scottish name or something.
