>Uematsu, I need a quick title song for my next JRPG on the NEs
>We only have 10 minutes to ship
>It's our last game we can shitp, if we fail the company is over
>mmm, what if we just use a basic F, Dm, Gm, chord progression with a basic 4 note arpeggio riser
>No, it must be more complex, otherwise they will think I am a hack
>I should have studied music in college rather than literature, It's over, I am gonna be fired
>I don't have time, I need to do some quick shit
>Uematsu, you have 8 minutes
>Shit
>mfw 40 years later is one of my most popular songs and is played at professional orchestras

Good at counterpoint
Good attention to detail
Great melodic intuition
Good instrumentation
Good taste and skill at ripping off others
Competent in a wide range of styles and genres, likes to experiment.
Can produce a large volume of work on deadline.
Good guy to work with.

Hard to find people with ALL those traits.

>It's our last game we can shitp, if we fail the company is over
this was never true
the real story is that the guy would have gone back to college for another year if the game failed, Squaresoft was not in any danger of going under

Ngl, as a vgm autist I used to think he was a bit overrated compared to some of my other favorite composers, but the more I listen to his soundtracks the more I realize he was/is actually great.
>>
>>12800424
his understanding of harmony is top notch.

Not even on the same level. When I read the word "arpeggio", I was expecting something more like this.

the joke is that FFI prelude is just a basic arpegio on 4 chords done as a 10 minutes job.
>>
>>12801476
>a 10 minutes job
Yet Folin goes hard on a fucking Pictionary game.

Follin is great but I think his NES ost suffer from the I'm a virtuoso look how much can I do that younger artists always had.
Meanwhile uematsu is more mature in his NES games.

A diference of age, not tht follin is bad.

I consider uematsu during the NES era a more mature composer than follin.

Seems to be an attitude a lot of Euro composers had, especially on C64. Compare any European C64 game's music to an American C64 one and the differences are apparent. Euros generally liked to flex their programming skills.
>>
>>12801529
I think is also an age thing.

Younger artists need to flex their skills.
It's part of a normal development.

Meanwhile artists when they're middle age, they're less into virtuosity and more into showcasing technique by doing something that seems very easy and simple.

Just wish he'd devised a better sound font for his PS1 scores.

Folin seems to throw everything at the wall at one time to see what sticks, all under the auspices of complexity. It doesn't help that his songs rarely match the atmosphere or feeling of the game he is working on. I like a couple of his songs from Plok and he does have talent, but this Anon gets it.>>12801528

None of Tim's soundtracks fit the games he wrote them for except for Ecco Defender of the Future.

>>12802534
Don't forget the Starsky & Hutch PS2 game.

Too late, I already forgot it. Hey when's dinner?

Sounds like Aphex Twin.

>Rip off the entire 18th century in music.
