A bit of an abomination, but a pretty cool one.Commando timestamp at 5:43.https://youtu.be/8ObpfoOy2Wo?t=343Original for comparison.https://youtu.be/qrQuR1LHAVI

Yeah this is something people have been working on. I will say as a C64U user, I have numerous SID options. I have both a 6581 and an 8580 installed in the sockets, as well as the built in SID emulation (which can emulate 8 SIDs at once IIRC). The emulator is very like the 8580, very clean and nice, no soul whatsoever. The 6581, and I have several and they all sound different, is always pure soul even if it has clicks and weird bugs that make 8580 music and sample playback sound weird sometimes. Once you play something on the 6581 there is, for lack of a better term, residue of the old programs that leaks all over the chip via induction, the thing was made a bit small feature-wise so there is induction and leakage. This simply can't be replicated without a circuit- and RF-level emulation of the chip itself. The leakage is quite quiet. But it's there and as it seems to leak more of what you played recently than what you played earlier, or that resonance somehow stays in there, it seems to massively enhance SFX but especially music.Nobody quite knows what the SID is capable of even today.
>>12801587This isn't composing SID music on AY, this is emulating SID on AY using Z80 CPU, and it's likely going to be too CPU and storage intensive to be used in actual games.

>>12802375Yeah, the thing I find most fascinating about the SID are the built-in analog filters.>>12802607It's just a neat curiosity. It requires preprocessing, and I guess that it maps what little it can to the AY voices but it mostly relies on CPU driven PCM.>>12802801And here I was hoping for some Mockingboard multi-AY symphony.https://youtu.be/q9kKivnl6Fg
