i thought i was going to beat it after conquering the surround areas but then i ran out of gold for boats and an army to invade the humans and crush them

stupid submarines attack my boats and i can't see them. that is frustrating
>>

surround areas*
>>
i finally beat this mission after learning about the watch towers that i can upgrade with cannons
>>

WC2 doesn't get hard until you reach the last mission of each campaign. The last human one is brutal

Beyond the Dark Portal is on a completely different level however. Even with a huge army of bloodlusted ogres I still can't beat XOrc 4
>>
>>12805130
>last mission of each campaign
Idk the orc one near the end where you have to exterminate Gul’dan’s rogue clans was pretty hard, too.
>Beyond the Dark Portal
No joke, it’s so hard. It’s like they heard the mild criticism that wc2 was too easy in some parts and made every mission unforgiving. Satisfying when you win, though. Last human mission there is damn near impossible without sc-level micro’ing.

I had to give up on the last human mission of Tides of Darkness. The nonstop dragon attacks are just too much.

i always used the 'onscreen' cheat
>>
>>12804690
What a nasty looking filter. It never looked like this, CRT monitors didn't have this kind of distortion.
>>
>>12805393
i am playing it with a 2012 thinkpad. you act like i choose to view it with this filter. i use this filter because i have no other alternative

my computer is low end to use good crt filters
>>
i think the AI cheats in these warcraft games

They are able to build ships and spawn guys forever without any trees, gold and oil in sight
>>
>>12805879
is too low end*
>>
somehow they spawn dozens of guys within minutes. AI cheats
>>
>>12805393
the shader looks better than it does in the screenshot.
for some reason the screenshot makes it look worse than it is.
it's still not as good as a crt but it's not as bad as in the screenshot
>>
>>12805353
You essentially need to hunker down and wait for the white team to run out of gold. Build a few guard towers close together, lure the dragons to them and repair the damage. And wait until the attacks stop. Also need to take care of the DK from the Black team who likes to Death & Decay your shit

Every mission from the base game took me two attempts at most. Last human mission took me like a dozen retries
>>
>>12805393
As someone who played this game lots on CRT, I don't think it looks meaningfully worse.

>>12805879
Well, one of the typical boons of much of retro gaming is easy piracy and low hardware requirements.

When I was a kid, my grandparents would inherit our old Windows 98 computer, and while that piece of shit would struggle trying to play Baldur's Gate a lot of the time (not that I let that stop me while we still had it ourselves), it would play Diablo and Starcraft pretty much fine, and that was good enough for me back in the early 2000s summers.
>>
i block all the entrances with farms and guard towers that shoot arrows
>>
>>12807350
i might use this strategy to block that bridge in warcraft orcs and humans
i would have to build a road to bridge first. in that game you have to build buildings near roads
>>
>>12805881
In warcraft 1 the cpu cheats, but in warcraft 2 draining the cpu of resources is a strategy I've used for some of the BTDP levels.
>>
>>12807730
This can also work in Starcraft.
>>
>>12807358
In WC 1 you just need a line of ranged units to kill anything. Not even healing can save enemies when you're dishing out so much damage at once

>>12808129
I'm pretty sure the AI in Starcraft has unlimited money in BW, I remember opening some levels in the editor and coming across some lines that give them 500k resources whenever they're running low
>>
Idk if anyone else had this issue but my main problem with Beyond the Dark Portal is that a single Gryphon Rider would just fly into my base like 30 seconds into the mission and kill all my workers. The actual missions themselves weren't that hard, but I didn't even bother with the Human campaign because of how enraged this one thing made me.
>>
>>12808759
You always need guard towers near your mines early on in BTDP missions, the ai frequently goes after your economy. Iirc gryphons don’t have longer range than guard towers.
>>
>>12808759
One level in Total Annihilation had the same issue and it made me quit that game. Sad to hear it also happens in BTDP
>>
>>12808759
Get more Death Knights. Two Death Coils (200 MP total) kills a Gyrphon Rider and heals your Death Knight too.
If you play Orcs at least half your army should be Death Knights. They can destroy towers from outside the range with Death and Decay too and if you want to be really cheap combine Unholy Armor with Death and Decay to kill an whole army at once.
>>
>>12804686
>stupid submarines attack my boats and i can't see them.
use flying machines to see them
>>
>>12810214
How are you supposed to use DKs when paladins with exorcism are all over the place
>>
>>12805393
>>12805393
Warcraft 2 was made for PC and PC Monitors. PC Monitors of that era didn't have scanlines. screenshot is all wrong.
>>
>the razing of tyr's hand

i finally beat this mother fucker

i was trying to kill every guy instead building the fortress and shipyard on that island
i would run out of gold trying to kill every guy
>>
>>12812874
>>
i prefer guard towers to cannon towers because cannon towers don't shoot enemies when they are too close. this leaves them open to getting destroyed

cannon towers for destroying ships near your coast line
>>
>>12808129
i plan to play starcraft later after i beat warcraft 2

i hate that i am gonna have to use wine or playonlinux to play it on my thinkpad 2012. my computer is too old to use proton which requires vulcan
>>
>>12812920
nevermind

i got it running with the heroic gamer launcher
