Why does the island in RE4 get so much hate? It's arguably the best final area in the series
>>12805951It's just too long. You're fresh off the neverending castle, and the game didn't need to drag the island along as long as it did when it doesn't do anything new other than the regens. plus it's just asthetically bland and ugly compared to the village or castle
>>12805951Because the village was interesting and unique and had a lot of personality and then the island was just another base.
>>12805951It just has a few sections that are unnecessary and/or too long but I agree that it gets too much hate. I still like it.
>>12805951It's not as cool as the castle.
It's kinda forgettable. Outside of the regenerators and minecart/truck sequence its not really doing anything new compared to the castle/village
>>12806485Just remembered the minecart shit is the very end of the castle proves my point. The game has already gone through most of its set pieces
>>12805951The village and the castle are just that good.
Atmosphere wise I think its because the village and castle are from when the game was still meant to be more horror focused and the island was from when the game had already shifted to action
A lot of combat against the same enemies in confined rooms or rooms full of random equipment and garbage. Regenerators are cool but there's like 7 total.
i dont hate it but its kind of a vibe switch that just isnt that satisfying. also the final boss sucks
>>12805951>>12805968I’d argue that the castle drags on for too long and by the time you reach the island, you’re pretty ready for the game to wrap up. Having to go through more swarms of enemies just feels tedious.
>>12805951Agreed OP, I like getting to use my maxed out guns on some cool spaniard guerilla zombie terrorists on their weird lil industrial shanty island.
Island is the best part. RE4 is the rare game that just gets better as it goes, despite being pretty long for a survival horror game.
>>12805951My only real complaint with the island is that I don't care for it much aesthetically. Granted, I feel that way about almost every Resident Evil late-game environment.
I like all 3 parts except the minifngun enemy
RE4 is of course a great game, but the game gets worse as it goes on and I think the main reason for that is because the game is at its best when the enemies are low tech. The more high tech they get, the worst it is.
>>12805951Only thing I didn't like about it is how short it was, it was basically a straight line to the end. I get that it thematically makes sense given that by this point Leon just said fuck it and is going in guns blazing but a little more variety wouldn't have hurt
Became more action and less horror, and was aesthetically distant from the village and castle, being more modern from the former.
>It's arguably the best final area in the seriesIn a series known for having mediocre final areas
>>12805951It just becomes nonstop action
>>12805951I think it's because of how much of a jump it was. You went from a rural village with peasants using farm tools and infected creatures to a castle near the village filled with cultists and more infected creatures, including a section where you see those peasants working. It all flowed very naturally, the island dumps you on a pretty ugly random island with infected soldiers using stun batons and miniguns (the castle Gatling gun was already a stretch), it's jarring and off putting especially how JJ is just dropped at your feet immediately. Don't forget the goofy ass giant Mad Max guys who carry warhammers the size of Ashley. You know what else it can use? BACKTRACKING!!! while it never bothered me personally I know a lot of people despise backtracking and the island committed the sin of having you do it once. The only other thing I can really say about it is how strange the whole island fits and flows together especially near the end where you go from sandstone structures, to some kind of military camp, to some kind of prison, a military checkpoint, a secret lab, then some kind of oil rig. It feels like they just threw everything at the wall with no care for how it fit together.RE4 is probably my favorite video game and I have very few issues with it but I tried to come up with everything I could think of that people would dislike.
>>12808738uhhh good?
I have played thru the game once but I remember every time I opened the map after entering a new area on Island, it was always just a tunnel. Also there's not much weapon or enemy variety to offer at that point other than whatever they were where you had to use heat vision and hit their organs/parasites.
>>12807293>for a survival horror game.marketing terms thats meaningless and RE4 got nothing in common with the games they used the term survival horror with.RE4 is just a third person shooter.
I feel like the Island requires too much rifle usage, and by that point the semi-auto might as well be full-auto
>>12808771No, shooting the same 5 retards over and over is boring
>>12805951because the game is supposed to be horror, not call of duty TPS edition
resident evil 4a horse with no name
>>12809418What does this mean?
Re4 is a little too long, but I would cut a lot more stuff from the castle than island if I had a choice. Only part of the island I don't like is the dumptruck, castle has like 5 rooms which are just shoot this thing """""quickly"""""" or die instantly, the dragon room which is boring, and that random ass underground sand castle bit?
>>12810458The underground sandcastle was supposed to be a mountain side mine and you can see that if you look around during the minecart ride. There are only 2 rooms that are shoot the thing or die and I do agree that both are pointless. Realistically if I was to cut anything it would be the king and queen rooms, they just felt like padding. The truck is easily the worst part in the game that's not Del Lago. Fuck Del Lago one of the most boring bosses in the series.
>>12810506Oh yeah I also really dislike del Lago. Easily the worse village partShoot thing or die bits make no sense that late into the game. I understand Capcom adding in a """"tight"""" timer shooting challenge to the first re game with good shooting mechanics but this is hours in. The player surely got the hang of it by now Re4 is an amazing game but every playthough i always hit a point where i has my fill and wish it was wrapping up.
>>12805951at that point you're probably getting kind of tired of the core gameplay having played for 12+ hours and the game completely undercuts any horror novelty, just gives you tons of vanilla combat that's at maximum difficulty with generic action stylings. it's like eating 5 slices of pizza and then someone stuffs an xl burrito down your throat.
>>12805951The enemies shoot back at you
nobody mentioned the QTE cutscene knife fight?
