Is the Megadrive/Genesis the only Sega console that isn't a meme to go back to?

I mean, it's the only time they stood toe to toe with Nintendo and gave as good as they got. Dreamcast got most of its best games ported, Saturn only had something like 150 games released in North America, if you're gonna go back as far as the Master System then you might as well play the NES instead. BUT the Megadrive/Genesis has some serious hitters and you won't get the same experience just relying on the SNES for that era. So...
>>
You're a fucking meme, kid

With the Saturn you really have to get into Japanese importing if you want to truly appreciate it. There were still plenty of good games like Darius Gaiden,Guardian Heroes,Daytona USA and Die Hard Arcade that got US releases but there is a lot of overlap with the Playstation library as well which makes games like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider seem a bit less special. Still a nice console though

The Master System I think is one of those things you had to grow with to really still appreciate. There are a few games like Phantasy Star,Wonder Boy and Choplifter thst are still good but a lot of the library is just inferior ports of Genesis games or watered down ports of arcade games that you would better off emulating the actual arcade games now with MAME or something

Saturn and Dreamcast are so much better than the Megadrive, Mastersystem is a total joke
Saturn > Dreamcast > Megadrive >>>>>> Mastersystem

>but it did good in America!
Yeah because marketing, it bombed in Japan where the Saturn did better
>>
>>12806418
>that isn't a meme to go back to?
Can you stop being so zoomerbrained

Also I loathe this attitude of "I should only play the 25 best regarded games of any generation and never ever stray away from them, the other games are icky and no niche game would ever bring some fun to me". You're a fucking drone. Fuck you.
>I was pretending to be retarded! trolled lolololol!
If you were smart you'd know this "win" doesn't reflect well on you either way. Fuck you again.

I have limited time on this Earth, not to mention interests outside of video games, I don't have room in my life for [kinda ok obscure Sega Saturn game 3 people on the planet can talk about].
>>
>>12806460
How can you know? Are your tastes always perfectly aligned to consensus? Do you always need external validation when playing a game, therefore you have to play the popular ones always? Then you're a woman.

I've found the greatest joy in some titles that weren't super famous or anything. Meanwhile your Ocarina of Time bored me and I wish I had played anything else given my limited time on earth.
>>
>>12806473
>booohooo Ocarina of time
Oh you're one of THOSE people
>>
>>12806473
I grew up playing random weird shit that very few others played, but honestly 99 times out of 100 if a game is good, obscure or not, people know about it and spread the word. I can count on one hand the number of games people regard as "meh" or even "bad" that I personally rate way higher. It's not THAT common a thing and right now I'd rather work my way through the best of the best the SNES/MegaDrive/PS1/N64/PS2/Gamecube have to offer and when I run out of games or feel like I've had my fill THEN I can see exploring niche Saturn games as a possibility.
>>
>>12806475
Ohhhh no not the evil boogeyman, how couldn't you love the perfect game according to consensus! you should play OoT and nothing else, and discuss it forever like we do! join the hivemind!

You're so fucking boring and gay, woman.
>>
>>12806483
It's sad you don't have a personality and have to fill that void by being a souless contrarian
>>
>>12806418
>Master System
Much better graphics and more advanced console. A bad / decent Master System game is much more playable than a bad / decent NES game. But there was effectively 0 third party support and SEGA wasn't that good of a developer, so NES has more great games than SMS.

>Genesis
The only one you can reasonably argue to be the best console of the generation even though it isn't in my opinion

>Saturn
A meme unless you speak japanese, prefer 2D games or love arcadey games.

>Dreamcast
Meet Potential Man!
>>
>>12806490
Saturn and Dreamcast are so much better than the Genesis if your scope is beyond mediocre platformers and space shooter #329

I understand where you're coming from but I don't like comparing consoles from different generations. It's a bit unfair. Maybe I prefer SAT and DC games but I regard the Genesis as SEGA's best console since it was the best they ever offered compared to the other consoles from the same period. If I want to play something from the 5th generation, I'm much more likely to look at the PS1 and N64 library before I even consider playing a Saturn game, but if I want to play something from the 4th generation, the chances I'll choose to play a Genesis game are about the same as the chances I'll choose to play a SNES game.

I don't even hate OoT, I just wasn't enthralled by it and didn't enter into a state of collective hysteria. You literally took personal offense because I don't regard it as a 10/10, take a hard look at yourself. Now go back to bluesky.
>>
This sort of "why should I play X when Y exists" opinion always comes of to me like the person doesn't actually play or like video games all that much if at all. Someone who does would be interested in all and just play both.
>>
>>12806518
>look look I'm so different good game was boring to me!
>wow why are you calling me out I was just pretending to be retarded!
Lmao also you have trannies living rent free in your head
>>
>>12806525
Instead of being a passive aggressive bitch why don't you reply to those posts with said opinion
>>
>>12806418
It all depends on whether the youtube you got your opinion from is correct or not
>>
>>12806686
Ackshually I'm basing this off google and wikipedia because I was trying to whittle down the who vast retro behemoth into manageable chunks I could realitically experience firsthand and I discovered Sega is "cool" but it's not exactly mandatory reading in the grand scheme of history.
>>
>>12806418
>Dreamcast got most of its best games ported
Yeah and all the ports are trash.
>>
>>12806418
>BUT the Megadrive/Genesis has some serious hitters and you won't get the same experience just relying on the SNES for that era. So...
Unfortunately can't even agree with that. The Megadrive was my first console as a kid, and having recently gone back and tried playing things I either didn't try or never finished, it really doesn't have a lot to offer and offers a collection of mostly gimmicky games that really don't compare to the SNES, along side arcade ports that are now hardly worth playing on the system.

I'm perfectly capable of being open minded and trying out new things, but part of that genuine open mindeness naturally means that if I try something highly praised and it does in fact strike me as living up to it's reputation and being better than other things, I have no impulse to be a hipster and act like I have special taste or prefer something more obscure when I don't and align with a critical consensus. There are plenty of weird/niche games I love, but they're basically all on Playstation/PC, where there are way, way more obscure/experimental games that actually succeeded well at what they set out to do, SEGA really is not good at this kind of thing and the best and most worthy games they have to offer by far are either made for their competitors (like F-Zero GX) or due to Yu Suzuki's output. He was an outlier possessing a level of talent beyond what everyone else at SEGA were capable of.

>>12806473
>>12806483
Having experienced playing it without knowing anything about its critical reputation before hand, I would gladly play Ocarina of Time, and that alone, over every single game ever released for every single SEGA console combined.

Holy shit same, genesis was my first console but when I emulated a snes as a teen I feel like I was totally robbed.

How do you do fellow Sega kids?
>>
>>12806418
I think the DC has some games worth playing if you are really into arcade ports and y2k era North American sports. I probably play my DC more than my genesis but I’d definitely say investing in a genesis library will give you more bang for your buck. Plus a genesis can play master system games which is neat if you can find and want to play master system games
>>
Now THIS is how you trigger Tendies.

If you truly cared about your "limited time on this Earth", you wouldn't be posting here at all
>>
>>12806525
>"why should I play X when Y exists"
Exactly, aren't games meant to be innovated upon? It's why I'm one of those weirdos who likes Beyond Oasis, even if its gameplay took inspiration from ALTTP.
>>
>>12806460
>I have limited time on this Earth...
Then maybe you shouldn't spend it playing video games if you're so concerned about it you dumb nigger
