Why isnt Bomberman 64 more revered? i always thought it was a good platformer like Mario and Banjo but its rarely mentioned in the Nintendo 64 catalog
>>
It debuted amid many giants and titans of old! When your opposition serves you Mario, Banjo, Conker, Zelda, you know you're in trouble trying to stay alive! If anything the fact it hasn't been forgotten is testament and paramount to its' lasting appeal.
Heck I still put it on when I get the itch! One of the better Bombermans for sure. My fav is the PSone version though!

Hero > 64 > Second Attack

don't (You) me

This game is really lame, just like Pac-Man World. You have a character and series whose renown comes from a specific set of systems, and then you strip all those away to make a bland genre title, the elements famous to the brand being thrown in as shallow artifacts. This was not the way to bring these characters forward and that is evident from these games' lack of influence or even popularity outside of a specific niche.
>>
You can't jump.

Controls are puzzles are sort of awkward.

Pac Man World is everything but bland, the level design and mechanics are pretty unique.

It's so full of sovl. 30+ years later and I still get earworms from the OST like weekly.
>>
>>12807165
Same with Bomberman 64. Getting around without jumping and using bombs creatively instead was interesting.

Hero is a meme
>>
>>12806938
Jeff Gerstmann thought it was shit
>>
>>12807195
Funny and popular?
>>
>>12807165
But it's not Pac-Man.
>>
>>12806938
Bomberman should've ditched the gameplay it had for over a decade by the late 90s. Hero's popularity shows that there is much more that can be done with the series.

i don't really understand him. i watched a little bit of his streams from like a month ago where he was going through every n64 game to rank them (mind you he doesn't beat any of them just plays them for an arbitrary length of time) and i forget what game he was playing but he was shitting on the draw distances. like, what? that was the tech at the time. complaining about that shit is what a zoomer would do. soured me on him right away.

You're talking about Bomberman Hero. Bomberman 64 is anything but generic, it's a really clever evolution of Bomberman's basic systems. Chain reactions, bomb kicking with passed momentum, picking up bombs and other players, bomb jumping, all of this can be traced back to 2D games and it was reassembled and rebalanced to emphasize the third axis. It's transition from 2D to 3D done right.

>>12807195
And what a meme! Shit's great.
>>
>>12807440
I haven't played 64, so maybe you're right. I thought it looked lame when I saw footage, but I'll give it a try later.
>>
>>12807198
Who cares what 8.8 man has to say?
>>
>>12807289
he may have been making a more nuanced point.
>>
>>12806938
I don't really like it. And what I say goes
>>
>>12807603
he wasn't. he was just constantly saying how the tech was awful and the game was nearly unplayable. i think it was star fox 64
>>
The multiplayer of this game was great. It was just so much chaotic fun. Putting sudden death on with a 1 minute timer so that it would start right away was also a blast. Honestly, I didn't really care for the single player much and just played it to get pieces to put on my Bomberman for the multiplayer matches.
>>
>>12806938
It's one of my top five for the console, but I totally get why it's overlooked by others. It's just a weird game. Your question is like asking why Jumping Flash for the psx is almost entirely forgotten despite being one of the best games on the console. They just don't appeal to normal people.
>>
>>12807289
So you discovered youtubers, try not to fall for it again and you'll be fine.
>>
>>12808137
i watch plenty of gaming youtubers that aren't as retarded as that. also gerstmann started working in the industry when you were still in diapers. classifying him as a youtuber just outs how young you are.
>>
You had to have friends to play the multiplayer which was the best part of BM64
>>
>>12807198
>a literal nobody thought a highly acclaimed game was garbage
moving on
>>
>>12806938
It feels more like an arcade game the world's arent super huge and detailed. I still really like it and it's my favorite bomber man on the system

It filters too many people. It's a game that is designed to FEEL more challenging than it really is. But stick any average normie in any of its boss fights and they'll feel powerless since they don't realize how Bomberman's kit is designed to work against the enemy.
>>
>>12807185
This. The stage select theme is still rent free in my head.

64 > Hero in terms of overall sovl.
