What was your experience with Halo: Combat Evolved on the original XBOX?

Picked up the master chief collection on steam last year and actually started playing the campaign. A lot deeper than I anticipated

He came up with the UNSC, Master Chief, Cortana, Captain Keyes, Miranda Keyes, Sgt Johnson, Arbiter, Tartarus, Prophets, Covenant lore, Forerunner lore, Gravemind, etcEric Nylund came up with Chief's backstory involving Dr Halsey's SPARTAN-II program, ODSTs, Reach, Colonel Ackerson and the Spartan III, Onyx.The game story and book story are largely separated but are still canonical with each other.

But a classmate brought an xbox to school to play in the lounge after classes were done and I was honestly underwhelmed for all the hype I had heard. I was surprised this was the game that beat out MGS2 for game of the month in EGM. It was basically a less exciting version of Goldeneye 64. The maps were huge so you barely ever see any action in 4-player mode. I guess they tuned it for 8-player LAN.
It was fun. We played with 6 players and two xbox systems connected across the hallway with my friend and his brothers.

>>12807226Completely deserving of its praise, just beat it on Legendary and all the criticism is wrong. I don't know how one can possibly be that wrong about the game but they made a choice, and it's the wrong one.Halo CE really is that good. Amazing encounter design from start to finish, sense of progression and foreboding atmosphere as the situation worsens before the final effort to self destruct the pillar of autumn.
>>12807226Played it after the second one, and I wasn't blinded by its majesty, maybe because I was 13 at the time and I was a lil' bit retarde, but my main complain was: no kinopgrahy and no arbiter. Finished a couple of times and went back to gaylo 2 to try to make machinima movies with my family videocamera aimed directly to the tv.

I quit just before the zombies showed up and didn't find out about them until much later, probably for the best because I was pussy ass kid.I remember thinking the pistol was a shotgun or some kind of rifle because Gearbox's way of adding widescreen to the game was to just zoom in the screen, cutting off half the viewmodel so you could only see the barrel, and it was really strong of course
