Does anyone here collect FDS games? How often are the disks overwritten with something other than what they're labeled? Ever get anything interesting?
>>12809189No, but just thought I'd share that I had to make a stinking save state for the Japanese version of Castlevania II because otherwise it will never load. It's done this to me on the official collection too.
>>12809189Sellers usually say what's on it. If it's a loose, untested "junk" disk, it's a complete crapshoot. A CIB disk is much more likely to have the correct game on it.
Can't you just overwrite an incorrectly labeled disk with the correct ROM?
>>12809637If you have an FDSStick yeahI might just get a lot of cheap disks and overwrite them with stuff like Castlevania and Kid Icarus. Yeah you can run games directly off the FDSStick but it's less fun.
Man and I feel like a goof opening up and giving a 1541 a spit shine sometimes but this autism takes the cake. Those drives are known to be a bit frail. Seems like using one for much is asking for trouble. More of a shelf piece no?
>>12809189>Does anyone here collect FDS games?Yes>How often are the disks overwritten with something other than what they're labeled?Bout tree fiddy>Ever get anything interesting?Yes
>>12809189>collecting FDS gamesLiterally one of the most retarded things to collect, as you can't know if the content was written by the original factoryYou're basically collecting plastic and stickers
>You're basically collecting plastic and stickersThe same could be said of many hobbies.
>>12809189>Ever get anything interesting?Hmm. Yeah, actually, with my lot years ago. I assumed it was just pirated copies of cartridge games. That was a thing, right? But nothing I ever saw dumped...
>>12809189Pretty fucking often. Any time you buy a game you're gambling about what's actually on it. I said fuck it and got an FDS Key so I could rewrite them easily.>>12809226>A CIB disk is much more likely to have the correct game on it.My CIB Kid Icarus turned out to be Esper Dream. This was the one that made me buy the FDS Key lol.>>12809637Yes>>12809653FDS Key is way better. You don't need to use a computer or a custom cable to write them, just use the Famicom and the FDS Key. It's awesome. And of course you could load the games from the FDS Key if you really wanted to, but like you said that's not as fun.>>12809780What?>>12809864>you can't know if the content was written by the original factoryWho gives a fuck? Any game bought at a kiosk back in the day "wasn't written by the original factory" either you dumb fuck.>You're basically collecting plastic and stickersYou're collecting and playing from floppy disks, which is fun.
>>12809864Why even wake up and attempt to enioy life at all? Were only doomed to death anyway. What a defeatist attitude. This is like black people not understanding why white people climb mountains.
>>12809864And manuals. It's no different really then collecting floppy or cassete computer games. You can also rewrite what you want on them, but the real value/collecting aspect is on packaging(box, paperwork, feelies. )
>>12810091As someone from central Yurostania and as white as you can be, I never got that nonsense either."Because it's there", that's such a stupid non answer which you can use for literall anything>Hey Anon, why are you kicking Reinhold Messner in the nuts?>Because they're there!
>>12809864Nowhere nearly as retarded as collecting (You)s for being a seething poorfag
Rate the games I want to collect
>>12812169Does the disk version of Zelda have any advantages over the cartridge one? Save for possibly having to replace the battery in the cartridge.
>>12812182More audio channels on some songs, and you can yell into the player 2 microphone to defeat Pols Voice. The font's different too. Those are the most famous differences, idk if there's any others.
>>12812182>>12812185Actually, looking at a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-aYJyHgCy0 and there's more audio on basically everythingYou can hear the waves when you're near water, that's pretty cool and atmospheric for a game released in 1986
>>12812169Reduced to games I could really see myself sitting down and playing for a while, and added pricesSeeing it like this kinda hurts, but maybe I can get some of these in lots together. At least the early arcade style games are common in them.
>>12812191>You can hear the waves when you're near waterThat’s in the localized cartridge release too, no? At least by the ocean on the south and east parts of the map.
>>12812308Oh damn I guess I forgot. But it does cut out when you attack enemies, since the NES lacks that extra sound channel
It's crazy how fast the Disk System became obsolete but also how many of the very best Famicom games released on it in that very brief period. It's like if Sonic 3 and Gunstar Heroes only released on the Sega CD.
>>12810091The people who say this shit tend to be some of the most unambitious NEET fucks out there who despise putting effort into the real world
>write good response>no repliesTired if these ai threads
>>12813105are you >>12810059 ?if so it's a good response but idk how i should respond to itit kind of stands on its own and i feel like i can let it sit there as it is
>>12812169I like it, was not aware joust was pricey
>>12813161Yeah, weirdly expensive. Probably because it was a 1984 game that got delayed until 1987 way past the point where anyone wanted a port of a by then 5-year-old score attack arcade game on the Famicom. A few months after it finally released, Rockman came out, and that's a clear sign that the early era of the Famicom was over.
