>Got struck by the pinball bug>Thought it was autistic before>Now I see they are a masterpiece of engineering and game designAny of you into this shit!? How do I pinball the right way?
>>12809521>How do I pinball the right way?Aggressive crotch thrusting into the coin door is an advanced technique that when done right can trick tilt sensors.
>>12809521>Thought it was autistic beforeIt is
>>12809521I feel ya op. My cousin-in-law took me to a pinball arcade a few years back and I got bitten by the bug too. For me it was so many decades of whimsical creativity in the design. So many awesome cabinets and so much passion. Truly a White man's pursuit. The newer machines are more durable and require less maintenance, but you can't beat the charm of an older machine. Do you want to buy one or git gud?
>>12809521>How do I pinball the right way?Make friends with someone who collects the machines. Use the same logic you would boats. Maintenance is expensive so they're not worth owning yourself.
>>12809521Pinball FX is a good way to get into it. Obviously video pinball can't possibly capture the feel of the real thing and it's 10x easier because the physics are a lot more predictable. But it's a good way to learn the rules of each table and find the games you like. From there you can find the real ones with pinside maps to see where you can play them publicly. Depending on where you're at there's lots of big arcade / pinball cons that have weekend freeplay and tons of machines to check out.If you find that one game you really like and you're willing to learn to do some basic repairs and maintenance look into buying, but beware, it's an absolute money pit and they multiply once you buy one. I've got one pin for now, but I'm really worried it's going to multiply.
>>12809743>Pinball FX is a good way to get into itVisual Pinball has better physics plus more tables, but setting it up filters a lot of people
>>12809772Either way. VPX is definitely more of a pain in the ass but you get more options if you want to fuck around with it.Pinball FX does have the advantage of the scores popping up from where you earn them. I think it actually helps a lot to understand what's going on as a totally new player. Scoring can be kind of obtuse and difficult in the very beginning because of everything going on. And the leaderboards do give some incentive to git gud.Point is that video pinball is the lowest point of entry. Learn the rulesets for the game and see what you like. Then get on the real deal and you'll have a good head start.
WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE REEEEEEEEEEE
>>12809859>make only a few hundred machines >only make more if there's a demand>there's no demand>it's not the 1970s anymore>WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE REEEEEEEEEEE
>>12809783I second this. I downloaded pinball fx off of steam a few months ago because I was bored and wanted to try something different and became obsessed.I’d always enjoyed throwing the occasional quarter into a machine growing up, but being able to put hundreds of plays into one machine is a game changer. I like the idea of owning a real machine in theory, I have money and I’m not afraid to maintain electronics and mechanical things, but owning a 90s Williams machine seems like it’d be a nightmare. I switched to pinball fx vr on quest and the depth perception eliminates the annoying part of playing pinball on a video screen for me. I may dip into vpx one of these days but for now playing pfx in vr suits me just fine. How come no one has posted any scores yet? Here are some of my better pb’s Twilight Zone - 1 billionStar Trek TNG - 1.5 billionTheater of Magic - 1.7 billionMonster Bash - 256 millionMedieval Madness - 154 million>inb4 digital Yeah, yeah
>>12810120>Monster Bash - 256 millionI'm at ~400 millions at my local bar. The Frankenstein monster is very beat up and will only register the stongest direct hits.
>>12809521>How do I pinball the right way? With the right soundtrack.https://youtu.be/hHc7bR6y06M
>>12810179Nice, that’s pretty deep into the game. My 256 mil was a fluke since I don’t understand the table very well and was my first and only time getting to the wizard mode. I need to play more monster bash.
do they really break as often as the haters claim
>>12810741No. People cheap out and buy one in dogshit condition that was on location for 3 decades and then wonder why they spend the entire rest of their life diagnosing endless problems.Get one in good, fully working condition. Spend the extra money because you never get back out of it what you put in. Let someone else take the hit on repairs. That being said they are physical machines where you're flinging a steel ball bearing around inside. Things wear and do require some kind of regular maintenance. Some machines are built better than others (Spooky is hot garbage, Williams are built like tanks, modern Stern is somewhere in between). Just don't be retarded and buy someone else's basket case and it's not that bad. They're commercial machines meant to make a business money. If they could only last 3 plays between breaking nobody would ever buy them.>>12810120I've made the billion shot a couple times in Bride of Pinbot on Pinball FX. Can't get over 21 million on a real machine. Trying to train my nudging a lot right now.
DIE BOOMERS ITS NEVER COMING BACK
>>12810873Based. Leaves more pinball machines for us.
>>12810120Is TZ the most physically complex pinball ever made?
>>12810916Definitely the most toys. In a perfect world, it’s the machine I’d be most eager to actually own but everyone who claims to own one on pinball forums all say the upper flipper gets weaker over time and the magnet flippers mess up a lot. Considering those two things are responsible for most of the points in a high scoring game, the thought of owning one seem pretty crappy.
How jealous are you right now of my Addams Family pinball machine?
That will be $37,000 + tariffs + fees + tip please

How many of these things do you people have? What is considered a decent collection.

>>12811709How often do you even play them.
>>12811709Damn anon, can I be your friend? I have good manners and I promise not to thrust the coin doors.
out of all arcade media why are pinball tables the most arbitrarily creepy and bizarre?>summon a demon to increase multiplier>fertilize and birth a full-grown sexy woman from an alien egg for super jackpotbuddy we are literally just batting a ball around a tilted box, settle the fuck down
>>12809656or you can play on locationpinballmap.com
>>12810873it's doing way better now than in the 00s. the darkest period in pinball was like 2005-2011
>>12812861It was the 70s.
>>12812861>out of all arcade media why are pinball tables the most arbitrarily creepy and bizarre?Because while video games were made by Japs and White men, most pinball companies are owned by Jews.
