For some reason, this dungeon was shuffled around from its initial spot to a late-game dungeon. It is supposed to be accessible in Bone Village, after Meteorfall, but instead was moved to its own location. There is even a unique enemy, Hon-chu that would fit perfectly there as a boss or enemy. Has anyone attempted to restore it? The items do not feel like end-game, but rather unique mid-game equipment. You need to beat Ultima weapon and to have a special chocobo to get there, and the equipment is largley not worth it.
>>12810528>the equipment is largley not worth it.It's worth it for the tripe growth slots. They probably turned it into a late-game dungeon because of that, as to prevent players to level up materia that fast.
It's not cut content per se, all the content is there, just shuffled around. But the sunken Gelinka is much easier to access (right after submarine), and it has far better rewards. The ho-chu is also only found in the battle arena, and seems like it was from the ancient forest.>>12810531It would make more sense to simply move the Apocalypse somewhere else then.
>>12810531If you put it into context, the other triple growth is found in the underwater reactor which is one of the Huge Materia side-quests. You can rush the Ancient Forest by defeating Ultima weapon after getting the highwind, but most players don't. It's typically much easier for new players to find the Sunken Gelinka, which is much more of a late-game place. 2x Cut materia is way more useful than Slash all.My actual guess is that there is no reason to ever visit Bone Village again, and without that prompt, it's very easy to miss the exit on the right. Just looking at it, without a sign, there's no indication you can go to the right, or that something has opened up after Meteorfall.
>>12810546Nothing about this screams "oh yeah, path to the right". But granted, I don't like Bone Village at all, and it's probably my least favorite screen, and side quest. I think it should have been a cul-de-sac around this area, rather than being on the main path. And it should have had a larger screen with a top down look for the excavation mini-game.
Don't you only need a green chocobo, which is easy to get?
>>12810532could very well be possible that it is a victim of the crunch. they developed this game at lightening pace with new technologies they were learning as they went. i havent seen your suggestion in any mods ive tried. seems like if there was enough evidence to tie it to a location with meaning it may have been added to something like the shinra archeology cut. if you want my opinion id suggest maybe throwing your own spin on it if ur willing to play with the modding tools. couldnt be a better time to mess around.
>>12810556You don't need a chocobo, beating Ultima weapon is enough.
>>12810558Yeah but I'm just saying that can do the Ancient Forest as soon as you regain control of Cloud if you want to
>>12810557The initial stage-1 Tonberry is also nowhere to be found in the main game, but instead is battle arena only. My guess is that it would have been used in the cave-area of ancient forest, or maybe whirlwind maze or gaea's cliff. Thematically those places would fit. Why those two enemies were cut, rather than having their stats rebalanced is a mystery. If it's a balancing issue: Tonberries can be morphed into elixers, and Ho-Chu morphed into Ribbons. But it would make more sense to alter the rewards rather than make-them end-game.
>>12810528Why would you want to restore the worst area in the entire game?
>>12810558>>12810556Yes, I actually forgot this as I thought you needed a special chocobo to do it. At least for me, I didn't know about the place until late-game, so I initially only got there after consulting late-game strategy guides. Ultima weapon is found over the place and after its death, it opens up the ancient forest map. >>12810563Yes, this may be crunch and it looks like the Ho-Chu was meant to be a mini-boss. Maybe they didn't complete the field model for it in time?
>>12810575Because it's unfinished, out of order, and creates logical inconsistencies. This cave and vine are the original exits for the ancient forest, but it's unused in the final game despite LOOKING like a proper exit. Many players wasted hours trying to find a way to access that cave.
>>12810586most of us hit select and there was nothing there and we were left wondering. i would chat with friends on MSN or IRC and forums about little things we found in the game. you can see the same discussions on gamefaqs. restoring it would be cool but it won’t make up for the time we spent messing around. it was all fun either way you look at it. again if it’s meaningful for you there are many gamers who would download a mod with a restoration in an instant because we love the game and can’t get enough of it. we’re way beyond playing FF7 casually and any new challenges are fun.
This is meant to be a mini-boss in the cave section before you left.
more like ancient shit.
I'm just glad they left it in the game in any capacity. It felt cool and mysterious the first time. The Apocalypse is a cool sword, too.I wish they left that boss in.

>>12810558>can’t I just shoot him?>you don’t need to shoot him, building an atom bomb is enough
>>12810528It was a gimmicky dungeon that made more sense as optional content.
>>12813132it was always gonna be optional. The path doesn't open up until disc 2.
>>12810528What useless, retarded fucking thread. Good grief.
>>12813132It could be something more simple. The ancient forest looks to be deep subtropical. Does that make sense on the northern continent right next to tundra, glaciers, and snow lands? Or does it make sense to be just outside of the tropical jungle area by Gongaga? (the latter)But I agree, it could be the dungeon is so different from the rest of the game and so infuriating without a guide (I did it first time, it sucked) that they wanted it to be clear that it was just an optional extra. And finding extra shit in FF games is (was, anyway) part of the fun. An 8 year old without a guide would get frustrated as shit by throwing frogs or bugs around if it were on the main path and they might throw a tantrum and quit over it lol.
