What does /vr/ think about the 1998 N64 game "Zelda: Ocarina of Time"?
>>12811530Road Rash for the Sega Mega Drive is a better, more fun game.
good bad
It's okay I guess. When I was a kid I thought it was unnecessarily janky and awkward, like all N64 games.
An absolutely magical experience in 1998, but its reputation as still being the undisputed best game of all time and the series as a whole feels ridiculous>Rupees are effectively useless (Admitably a problem in a lot of Zelda games but they are particularly useless in OOT since very few items are required to be bought) since items are abundantly available in infinitely respawning bushes>This leads to the game having a bunch of treasure chests that are just a 20 rupee that goes into a wallet that cant even fit it>The overworld is just a big hub with nothing worthwhile to find Its basically the same shit as Metroid Prime 4 except you ride a horse instead of a bike which is particularly Jarring when all previous Zelda games had densely populated overworlds crawling with secrets>Combat system is very robust but very few encounters really leverages it outside of "Shield up, attack when enemy obviously is open">For every clever puzzle you get five "slowly push this block into place" or "look around in first person for a switch to shoot lmao">You seldom have a reason to engage in combat in the first place since item management is basically non-existant due to their drop abundance>Its overall too easy. Even if you don't use any of the crazy amounts boons the game gives you (Four fairy bottles basically nukes any boss fight) the game throws hearts at you constantly so it rarely is difficult enough to necessitate their useI have crazy nostalgia for it today and I still think the atmosphere and overall brevity of the game holds up (Lord know Twillight princess could take a hint) but frankly its a worse game than any of its predecessors and other 3D Zeldas improve on it.
>>12811550Based.FUCL the n64
>>12811551Sounds like a LoZ game alright
>>12811550no you didn't.
>>12811530goated along with majoras mask and symbolizes the franchise (and nintendo as a whole) at its peak, it's worshiped by tendies as the undisputed greatest of all time in part of it being one of the best games in nintendo's catalog and also in part because every zelda that came after mm was worse than any zelda prior to oot
>>12811551You're right in almost every way and this stuff is exactly what I'd hope the remake would improve on except the overworld is way more rich and full of interesting things than any of the previous games and so this is completely backwards
>>12811582Yes, I did. Movement felt weird and unfun. Same goes for Mario64. The only games I enjoyed were Smash Bros, Mario Kart and Pokemon Stadium, because I would play with my little brother.
>>12811604>the overworld is way more rich and full of interesting thingsI thought anon meant just the big central field when saying "overworld", even though "overworld" isn't a great term for that. If that's the case then I agree that it's boring and sparse - you can charge around on the horse like an epic hero but that doesn't keep on being fun for very long all by itself. If you're including towns and stuff in your idea of "overworld" then yeah there's plenty of stuff going on in the overworld.
>>12811612you're just making shit up to troll people.
almost done with it. just reached the shadow templeso far my thoughts are mostly negative
>>12811530overrated and aged like milk.
>>12812005>overratedno>aged like milkyes
>>12812086yes, the continuous and endless praise of something that aged like milk is why it is overrated.
>>12811965Based, FUCK this game!!
