Where were you when Piracy Killed The Dreamcast?
>>12812372Piracy also killed the NES, PSX, PS2... oh wait
>>12812374NES, PS1 and PS2 were harder to pirate and weren't widespread. Whereas it was super easy to pirate games for the Dreamcast.
>>12812380Not really, these are some of the most pirated consoles of all time.Piracy didn't kill the Dreamcast. SoJ vs SoA narratives didn't kill the Saturn or Sega. There's only 1 reason why Sega had to step out of console making and it's called PlayStation.
>>12812380>NES, PS1 and PS2 were harder to pirate and weren't widespreadThis is a fucking lie, Famiclones and their cartridges along with burnes CD/DVD games were how most people outside Europe and US played those systems
>>12812385>>12812392Piracy definitely killed the Dreamcast, because it was super easy to pirate for. The more successful consoles were extremely difficult to pirate for.
>>12812372Tranny Smith killed this board
>>12812380>PS1 and PS2 piracy wasn't widespreadHow can you simply lie like this without flinching? Are you a woman?
>>12812372Pirating Dreamcast games
>>12812398For NES you have to account famiclones. And for every pirated Dreamcast, there were probably at least a thousand of pirated PS1/PS2. Modchips weren't hardmro get at all and in most 3rd world countries, the consoles already came modchipped when you bought them at stores, not even talking that much into their lifespan - 1996 for PS1, and 2004 or so for PS2.Sega had to step out because of PlayStation.
>>12812398Anybody could pay a dude to modchip their console, it had 0 difficulty.Pirated discs were everywhereThere were more modchipped ps2s in the world than the total number of Dreamcasts sold.AI hadn't been born in the 00s, it's essentially a zoomer talking out of its ass.
>>12812372Same place fairies and unicorns were, in make believe land. Sega killed the Dreamcast not piracy.
>>12812421PlayStation did
>>12812372Cope more sega trannies
>>12812410>For NES you have to account famiclones. Those weren't popular until 2 generations later. It didn't affect the NES during its lifecycle.>Modchips weren't hardmro get at all and in most 3rd world countriesIt really doesn't matter that much. Especially back then, the video game market was mostly targeting Japan, North America and Western Europe, if piracy wasn't available in these regions, it was already enough. The PlayStation accomplished that, the Dreamcast didn't.
Piracy didn't kill the Dreamcast. By the time Dreamcast was released, no-one wanted what Sega had to offer. It's really that simple, but of course OP knows that. If piracy had killed the Dreamcast it would have sold a lot of units and very few games. That's not what happened. They sold it at a loss and couldn't advertise. Sales just dried up. Titles dried up.
even if the Dreamcast was impossible to pirate, it would've been dunked into a casket with the PS2 streak of great releases and Xbox with the release of Halo would've thrown the dirt on it
>>12812372Dreamcast wasn't killed by piracy, but by incompetence. It was "too little, too late", released at the time Sony gained a massive following and Nintendo having their, at this point already, cultist following. There's a reason we call it Shitcast, it couldn't compete. The damage was already done by SoJ and SoA having differing opinions on Genesis lifetime, resulting in X32. Then the lukewarm reception of Saturn - it only sold well in Nippon. Dreamcast was Sega's desperate swansong. They should have quit the market after Saturn, as most of their edgy fanbase went to PlayStation. Only then could they survive, instead of gambling with another console. Imagine how much producing this type of a product on a world-wide scale costs. You can only afford it if you can take the loss, should it happen.
>>12812380geg. I played NES games as a kid on a popular NES clone, which was capable of playing games from every region and overcame anti-piracy checks. GayStation was also pirated to a massive degree, by modding it.
>>12812406No lie on my part. Look at the chart ---> >>12812398>>12812409So you admit to help killing the Dreamcast? Alrighty then.>>12812410Famiclones didn't come out until way later and not very many people were aware of it's existence in 1987, but that's just console cloning, not rom cloning. Either way famiclones were niche and unheard of. Piracy for the NES was simply not easy. It's not like you can install an SD card into a cartridge, those didn't exist in the 1980's. It's also very unlikely that a modchip is "preinstalled" on a PS1/PS2. Otherwise I would have came across that wired mess when I was cleaning my consoles, thankfully no modchip was installed nor found.>>12812413Except modchips weren't widespread because it was extremely niche and did not attract the average normie who bought a PS1/PS2. At best you had basement dwelling fat ugly incel weirdos buying modchips. At worst it's just one guy with a PC who bought it online, living in the middle of nowhere. If anyone is talking out of their asses, it's you.>>12812421Piracy killed the Dreamcast. Make believing is when you blame it on anything other than piracy like this dude --->>>12812423>>12812449t. Seething pirate tranny>>12812461False. Piracy killed the Dreamcast. You're only in denial because it makes piracy look bad and you don't want to take responsibility for what happened to the Dreamcast. You're too much of a poorfag to afford official games, you had to leech by pirating games. Saying Sega had no games to offer is a cope and a lame excuse. Sega had plenty of great games on Dreamcast that ended up getting re-releases such as Sonic Adventure, Shenmue, Crazy Taxi, Power Stone, as well as non-exclusives like Resident Evil Code Veronica and Marvel Vs Capcom.
>>12812493>blah blah blahOpinion discarded because piracy didn't kill the Dreamcast.
>>12812465Not really. Dreamcast would have ended up selling more physical copies of games, which they needed desperately at the time. It also would have kept third party developers happy and not cancel game releases. Piracy interferes with that.>>12812468Piracy killed the Dreamcast because it took away any money Sega would have made on games sold, as well as scaring away third party publishers.>>12812475Nice tall tale. Too bad it isn't remotely true.
>>12812495*piracy killed the Dreamcast
>>12812502>Dreamcast would have ended up selling more physical copies of games, which they needed desperately at the time. It also would have kept third party developers happy and not cancel game releaseshow, PS2 and XBOX would've stolen those sales, the former because it would've gone well with the exclusives it already had and the latter because it had better versions
>>12812505>*piracyWhat a bizarre way to spell Sega! Silly foreigners.
How many times are you gonna make this same gay thread?
>>12812372You know that doesn't make sensePiracy impact negatively software sales but it impact positively hardware sales you need a Dreamcast to play pirated gamesBut Dreamcast didn't sold well at all,the PSone model released mid 2000 sold 3x more than the Dreamcast , PS2 sales surpassed the Dreamcast only a few month after it's release
>>12812493>modchips were extremely nicheDunno how it was in the so-called first world but in my corner of east europe pretty much everyone who had a ps2 had it chipped. There were basement shops for CD-burning where you could buy pirated games for PC/console - in 'proper' places they even came with color-printed covers and printed manuals - and even if they didn't do chipping there they could refer you to someone who did.If you were in the age bracket which spent time playing videogames you literally had to live under a fucking rock with 0 friends or colleagues to not know about chipping.
>>12812550thisin my shithole we even had stores selling pirated copies, that's how widespread it was
>>12812398Mid 90's cartridge copiers are an autistic fixation of mine. Would've been such a cool thing to have at the time. Plus there's the whole legacy of 90's ROM dumps that date back to them.
>>12812493>At best you had basement dwelling fat ugly incel weirdos buying modchipsNobody "bought modchips"You would just pay a guy and he would jailbreak your system. These services were everywhere. You weren't there.
>>12812609All those pirated copies of Sonic Adventure killing Sega...
>>12812609>not selling a console at all makes more money than the DreamcastCrazy when you think about it.
>>12812372Playing actual good consoles
Piracy never killed anything, it's just a dumb scapegoat to ignore other issues while parroting something the industry can get behind.
>>12812398PS2 was insanely fucking easy to pirate.
>>12812380How do you say in English "La PSX was the playstation of videogames"?
>>12812398>required hardware>noneYeah I just look at the Dreamcast and it just magically made pirated copies. Who designed this thing?
>>12812372Dreamcast died from coming out right when Sony's revolutionary PS2 was announced and people were also waiting for Nintendo's top-secret Dolphin system. Both Nintendo and Sony's products were advanced enough to make people save their money and on top of that Sega's previous system was the Saturn which didn't leave a good impression as far as system longevity.
>>12812398>dreamcast: no hardware needed, even though you need a cd burner>ps1/2: cdvd burners were expensive, okinstalling a modchip is as trivial as going to a shop that do it. same as going to a shop to buy a cd burner to burn your mil-cd.also you need to know how to do mil-cds. with playstation you just copy them directly with clone cd and later alcohol 120.
>>12812493>Except modchips weren't widespread because it was extremely niche and did not attract the average normie who bought a PS1/PS2kek they were very popular here in the uk everyone had modchips in there ps1 / ps2. it was so widespread that the terminology is still used today normies buy "chipped" amazon fire sticks on facebook for tv piracy,, also you keep sayin consult the chart but famicom cart piracy and bootlegging was super common in japan
>>12812883I knew like 6 kids in my graduating class with modded ps1s in high school. I never saw a burnt Dreamcast game till Etsy in like 2014
Playstations didn't even need a modchip to play pirated games since the first versions of it had the expansion slot in the back that people used for the Game Shark. That's the way I remember PS1 piracy and if you or a friend had a cd burner you simply had to clone the cd, not use DiscJuggler and all that extra needed Dreamcast boot stuff. Dreamcast games also often needed to be shrunk down to CD-R size so it definitely wasn't as easy.
>>12812929Yeah OP is too retarded to understand the GDR format was made as an anti piracy measure >but it didn’t prevent muh piracy Then sega failed
OP is just doing it for the replies at this point, every single poster that has ever posted in this board has argued against him and yet he keeps going in this fruitless endeavor.
Wouldn't that require you to BUY the Dreamcast to pirate on it?
>>12812929action explorer was called here in Europe, we also had gameshark too.
For the Nth time, CD burners weren't cheap enough to be the cause for the DC's demise. They got cheap around 2003, by then the Dreamcast was already long gone
>>12812582>ywn have a Doctor V64 in 1997 and a CD with the complete N64 library thus far on it that you can just slot into and start playingI’d feel like the king of the fucking world
