Do you consider the challenge of adapting to a cumbersome controller to be part of the task of beating some retro games?

I played King's Field 1 JP and rebound my controls so it plays like a modern first person game (forward, backwards and strafing on left stick, and turning plus looking up and down on the right stick

That controller isn't really as bad as you might think. Trying to play something like SNES games on it would obviously suck, but it's not particularly cumbersome for games that were designed for it.

If I'm emulating, though, I'll just use a modern controller for everything rather than making any attempt at getting an "authentic" experience.
