Ive actually had really weird ass random luck finding crt's. The first one I found was out in the wild, driving down a road in a neighborhood. Saw one placed out on the curb with free sign.
I cant remember exactly the model, but if i remember right it was a magnavox, word grain one, probably from the 80's. only cable insert. It was in 100% perfect condition with remote. I couldnt believe it. figured it was probably in there basement and never used. I was in a rough spot a few years and though and had to sell it.

>1. Facebook Marketplace/Craigslist (most expensive but easiest)
You might have to travel a bit to pick up, and generally these will be resellers, but you can pick up solid CRT for under $200, sometimes free. Go to these, especially Estate Sales it seems has them since old people are dying, and you will find one soon enough. I do garage sales a lot so all my CRTs are from there and I have gotten solid ones, all of them less than one Marketplace tv
>3. Recycle Places/Curbs (Free, scarce)
If you find one, and no guarantee it is working order, you can get one free by going to a recycle center and getting one before it is destroyed or just driving around and picking one up before the trash picks it up to destroy. I have only seen one this way but most probably go out this way since people still think they are worthless, so if you actually put effort driving around you will eventually find one

how I got mine
The back of an electronic retailer had big bins out the back. Went there one night and took one that was not too heavy. Went back years later and it was only those 90's black ones and I ended up tripping over the cord so gave up. Checked the place out recently and they had a small 13 in one, waited til the place was closed but it was gone by then. I say if you see one you like just take it right there.

Others, waited until they announced hard rubbish near my area then drove around at night and was able to pick up 3 of them. Don't feel bad if you ending up missing one, a lot of them can have pretty high hours.

Finally a flea market type area, probably $20. Only 13 inch but generally feels almost brand new. The smaller it is the less hours it will probably have.

If you go above 20", make sure you bring a large vehicle and a second person to help you lift it. Growing up i had a shitty 18" crt and I didnt take into account when I went to pick up a 32" crt that it would fucking weigh 200lbs and not fit into my car (trunk or back seat). This. I am happy to play my games on my Sony whatever 65". Colors are better. Crt everything is washed out. With that being said, there are certain movies I like to watch on a CRT. Halloween is one. HD ruined a lot of movies because the makeup and prosthetics stand out... LOTR for example. Then CGI is the absolute worst.

The ACTUAL biggest benefit of a CRT is motion clarity. For 2D games with scrolling especially it's simply a different level of image quality. Maybe if you own a 480Hz OLED and use beam shaders and such you can come close, but literally any cheap consumer CRT will deliver pristine motion clarity that you just don't get on modern sample and hold displays. It's a hard thing to describe to people, because such games look perfectly "okay" on a modern flatscreen UNTIL you see them on a CRT and realize what you've been missing.

For retro 3D stuff it's not as important, as those games almost always turn into an aliased mess during motion anyway. I'm sure more modern games with better 3D would look great on a CRT computer monitor like that one Sony widescreen model that goes for thousands now, but I'll never know.

That's a power issue. It has power, just either not enough or can't make use of it for whatever reason.

Discharge it, change power cable, recharge and try again.

If it's still green you will have to discharge it again and crack that bad boy open to see what's going down.

Honestly just ask chat gpt for advice it will can summarize a service manual for you.

Likely will have to get a little voltage tester and solder pen to test and resolder all the little components on. Aboard.

It's not hard just be safe with the discharge so you won't be nervous about killing yourself accidentally while you get to work on the boards

The screen is horizontally squished-in and the top and bottom are slightly cropped. More pressingly, a fully (or almost fully) white screen causes the screen to badly flicker until the screen is no longer all white. Large fields of bright sand overtaking the screen also seem to cause the flickering effect. The flickering also seems to cause the CRT high-freq whine to oscillate.

I think it's a power supply problem. I'll be real though, I don't really want to open up a high voltage appliance. I'd rather replace it.
