Wtf someone said this was easy like Super Mario World and it absolutely is NOT. It's fucking tough. Love the atmosphere though.
>>
I couldn't even get past the first part i kicked my ass
>>
>>12830930
I just watched a playthrough and I feel like a fucking idiot. Welp gonna go play this game now
>>
I remember the GB/NES prequels being way easier
>>
>>12830906
If you can't find all collectables feel free to look up a guide. It's pretty hard to get 100% but it's very worth it when you do

Demon's Crest is what we refer to as the first game in the Demonvania
genre
>>
>>12831037
yeah they're pretty bad, demon's crest being good tricked me into playing them
>>
>>12831152
I was banging my head against the dragonfly boss for an hour getting absolutely nowhere. Felt like I was missing something. Hate to say I took a peak at a walkthrough for getting just the first secret anything and now I have a much better grasp on where the game likes to hide things. After upgrading health/weapons I then beat the dragonfly first try again. Game is still tough though. But every new level/boss feels like an appropriate jump in difficulty. Very well paced in that regard.

>>12831441 (me)
Also am I correct in thinking that the 2 potions that bring you back to the beginning of the level/map are useless? There's no concept of lives so you can just force a death and get to the map that way.
>>
>>12831651
I don't remember ever getting anything useful out of any of the single-use magical doohickeys in this game except for the healing potions, which are overpowered. It's been a long time though so maybe I'm forgetting one
>>
>>12831226
Excuse me it is called the Satan Action genre
>>
It's pretty fuckin fun. Normally I only play games where Inshoot demons in their face but I'll make an exception for this one because the graphics are pleasant.
>>
>>12831441
Good luck with Trio the Pago
>>
It's not easy and dark demon is one of the hardest bosses in all of video games.
>>
>>12830906
You got trolled
>>
>>12834069
It's a tough boss but hardest of all? Cmon. You memorize patterns just like every other action boss. You can even equip the attack talisman and kill it before it can kill you
>>
>>12830906
It's not really that hard, but even if it was much harder I love it because it doesn't pull any retarded "go back to level 1" shit on game over, it just lets you replay the level/boss fight normally until you beat it
The spells/potions are a little bit gimmicky and lackluster, they could have been replaced with some more solid rpg features, the red crest powers are mostly useless unlike the other crests, the ultimate crest doesnt have the infinite flight for some reason - all in all it's an amazing games with some minor quirks they could have built on if they made a very similar "more of the same" sequel - the prequels don't scratch the same crestvania itch as they are quite different and have shitty mechanics like the spam random encounters
>>
>>12835328
It predates metroidvania, so it and Metroid influenced it, not the other way around
>>
>>12835705
super metroid came out before it
>>
i found it to be fully enjoyable tho a little short, but i did play it right after i beat super ghouls and ghosts on professional difficulty
really the only hard part is figuring out how to hurt the bosses without getting hurt more yourself, you really gotta abuse the fact that you can open up the menu and switch forms whenever you want
like for the dragonfly boss that >>12831441 mentioned you can jump onto it's back, switch to ground form to get a hit in then switch back and run away
>>
I started playing this game because of this thread.

That is probably a good thing, I think?

Just finished it. Very good game with good difficulty, music and atmosphere. Didn't expect it to be an actual full metroidvania. Already downloaded the OST.

There's a hack that lets you switch powers with the shoulder buttons, but also sharts over the rest of the game https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/5628/

>>
>>12833179
you shoot demons in the face in this game too
the only twist is you’re also a demon
>>
>>12831226
Since the game Jet Set Willy is the predecessor of all these -vania games, it should be called a Willyvania, or humorously an Evillyvania
>>
is demon's crest being offputtingly easy a myth like dmc being a punching bag simulator? dmc1 and dmc3 especially are both borderline painfully difficult on normal.
>>
>>12838005
You haven't finished the game until you've collected all items. It unlocks extra content and trust me it's worth it. As mentioned early, look up a guide if you don't want to go item hunting
>>
I quit the game when I realized switching between forms all the time would be very annoying to me. And yeah the difficulty too.

I already did.

>>12840562
DMC1 and 3 are easy on normal outside of some bosses
>>
>>12841220
did you play the original difficulty or the special editions?
>>
>>12835705
?
What does this reply have to do with my post?
>>
>>12841226
The Special Edition version of DMC3 has all of the same difficulty modes that existed in the original. DMC3SE's "Hard" mode is barely harder than Normal and it's the equivalent of the original release US Normal mode. DMC3 doesn't get actually kind of hard until you play it on DMD and have to deal with the devil trigger enemies and DMC1 is very similar in that modes before DMD don't have devil trigger enemies (and even on DMD it's time-based unlike DMC3 where several enemies dying will cause remaining ones to trigger) so only some of the bosses are kind of hard.
>>
>>12840562
It's 'easy' in that it's basically Mega Man X level instead of GnG or Contra.

Someone on the internet lied to you? Can't be, no one lies on the internet.
>>

It depends on how skilled the player is. For people at the higher end of the normal range of skill, yes this game is too easy. I'd put it into the Mario category - like many (though certainly not all) Mario games, it throws excessive resources for recovery at such a player, and for the most part wouldn't even be very hard if it didn't, but is fun and interesting enough to be worth playing anyway. That said, it differs greatly from, say, SMB 3 in that it is not only easy (for a skilled player) but also SHORT, which is not as forgivable. But it is still a good game.
