Can we all agree that this was the coolest period in the 2D fighting games history? Even excluding Super Turbo, which is essentially a souped up CPS1 game.Street Fighter Alpha games, Marvel games, Darkstalkers games. Which are your favorites?
>>12832183Agree. My vote once again goes to Alpha 2. I love Children of the Atom, X-Men vs Street Fighter and Vampire Savior too.
>>12832183MvsC1
>>12832183Neo Geo was better
>>12832202False.Neo Geo had some prime Run’N’Gun side scrollers and Run’N’Gun top downs …But we’re strictly talking fighting games …Neo Geo fighting games were inferior graphically/animation-wise, gameplay-wise, roster-wise, universe-wise, controls-wise, music-wise, etc. noticably inferior to CAPCOM CPS-II fighting games, and it isn’t close. No matter how you slice it.Besides Last Blade & SamSho series, and a few well-animated cuties like Nakoruru & Mai, all NeoGeo fighters have rosters full of Kpop troons and disgusting fat dudes. With corny outfits and not enough quasi-racist stereotypes like the Capcom rosters are always chock full of.
>>12832252KoF 98 and V Special are better than any fighter crapcom ever made
>>12832252>controls-wiseLooks like someone can't into cancels and buffers.
You god damn better believe we can all agree to this, good /vr/ fan. Bet. In fact, this is the new global currency. You got respect for this art? Then fuckin' bang on, baby.
>>12832183They're good for the graphics but they're all broken and unbalanced
>>12832183Warriors everywhere, not a Spidey in sight. XD
>>12832393Balanced fighting games did not exist back then but some were more balanced than the others
>>12832183There's good and bad to the CPS2 era. One negative is dealing with the suicide batteries and the lack of technicians around that can deal with them. I think I need to phoenix one of my CPS2 boards as it has committed the self destruction. However, it is all worth it as I like all of the fighting games and non-fighting games on the CPS2 hardware, which is why dream of getting that Darksoft CPS2 kit if it weren't so expensive.
>>12832761>phoenixWhy would you do this? You can restore them the proper way.
>>1283218390s capcom were cooking with their character designs and themes
>>12833308You posted a CPS3 game
>>12832183Juggernaut is fun to play. Darkstalkers is the most interesting but I'm not nearly fast enough.
Agreed with OP, but then Mugen came along and changed the whole atmosphere. At this point there is probably a spriteset for every fictional character of note in that engine. Which of course would not even exist without CPS2 games since they popularized the crossover style. What's the most suprising name you've seen in Mugen? Ronald was hilarious...let me not forget Norimaro neither! XD
>>12832951He just throws money at shit and doesn't have any intelligence
>>12832951I don't think Capcom technicians makes house calls to restore the boards. In fact, I don't think they have any on staff payroll to service CPS2 boards at all anymore, so the battery is bound to die off. Phoenixing is the only way aside from the FPGA solution to keep the original code running that I know of.
What was the point of the cps3 system if they just went back to the cps2 for marvel vs Capcom and it looked amazing anyway?
>>12833750Phoenix is not the original code, it's custom code to run without battery. You can reprogram the boards with original code now, the same way Capcom did it. The whole process was reverse engineered some time ago.
>>128338211) better copy protection (though CPS2 wasn't cracked yet)2) much bigger game size. CPS2 had that weird rom size limit. They hit it with X-Men vs Street Fighter in 1996 already, and they couldn't have bigger rosters in Vampire Savior or MvsC. Street Fighter Alpha 3 was the exception with a bigger roster because it had much less animation frames by the virtue of Alpha 1 being a CPS1 game originally and the whole series being kept within the same limits.
>>12833821>marvel vs CapcomWasn't that on NAOMI?
>>12833750Way to destroy a perfectly good PCB faggot. Infinikeys have been around a long time. No excuse you braindead collectard.
>>12833903That's great news. I haven't kept up, as last I remembered phoenix-ing was the only way. My Japanese boards are still ok but my US ones are the ones that de-lifed. How difficult is the process?>>12834052I tried to keep them powered on as much as possible, but some just died on their own. It was just time, as I did not attempt to circumvent any security causing the boards to end themselves. In fact, my US MVC board was cheaper than the home ports because it was already dead when I got it, so I was just using it as a wall decoration at my last place. I've played the Marvel games enough to be aware of infinites back then too, the insanity is part of the fun of those games.
>>12834140Amazing how you can waste so much money on all this garbage and not have any clue what you're even talking about. You bring down every thread you show up in. You're a blight on is board. Not a single person here would miss your marble counter top.
>>12833308I love Tessa so much. Why doesn't she show up anymore.
>>12834209Play SvC
>>12834048Marvel Vs Capcom 2 was
>>12834209Tessa was only in Pocket Fighter, Warzard and SNK Vs Capcom unless I missed her in a newer title
>>12834206>cps2 games>garbageYou seem upset. Why is that?
