yesterday night i had the most trippy nostalgia trip. i discovered archives of old gaming magazines from my childhood around the early 2000s. holy fuck, what a time that was to be alive! the tips'n'tricks sections, the game reviews, the CD-ROMs bloated with content... things just changed so much and are so much shittier now. everything is digital, nobody buys magazines anymore, let alone even reads them. AAA companies ruin the day for everyone and rip off customers and fans. 90s and early 2000s were just the peak of gaming.

people will eventually bring those times back. its not just a trend with the whole analog/crt/tape stuff. im sure. right?

Magazines had a lot of soul to them for sure. In regards to your question at the end, there are some people treating it as a trend, but im sure that a lot of people genuinely do want to preserve and maintain these things. Only time will tell OP.

yeah, somehow i have the feeling that all of that comes back. like, people tried the novel extreme virtual/digital consumerism but get tired of it as a collective pretty quick, soon after it emerged. people want physical copies of their shit, be it games or music or have you what. as the 90s reemerge since the late 2010s, young people will learn to value the physical material.

It really was a different time... the peak of video games, but also great in terms of media and culture in general, a good time to be a regular guy, now everything kind of blows.
>>
You guys can't get magazines anymore?
>>
>>12836150
i mean, i could. but the writers who put these magazines together cant do it properly anymore. the people who take the screenshots and photos have lost all sense of imagery, photography and aesthetics. these days, it’s a bunch of little zoomer trolls writing the gaming magazines, anon. why on earth should I buy this rubbish?
>>
>>12836150
Yes, but is not the same as 90s and early 2000s, by 2007-2012 every gamazine were un-readable.

early 2000's is when it went to shit. There is a doc/interview on EGM, and Sushi-X explains how in the early 6th gen magazine staff went from "nerds who talk about what they like" to "kids from journalism school who don't care about video games and couldn't get a job somewhere else".
For instance a guy came to him showing 2 characters, one from Killer Instinct and one from Street Fighter, to ask him "which one is Street Fighter?". How the fuck do you work on a gaming magazine and not know that.

Late 90's / early 00's is also when *everyone* started using screenshots provided by the publishers.

If you want to do an experiment, try looking at press releases of games from that time, words provided by the publishers, and see how much of that can be found as is in reviews.

How can you not see how broken the cigarette in your AI pic is? I always wonder what kind of person looks at this and goes "yupp, it's perfect. I'm gonna post this!".
>>
>>12838604
it looks perfect when you dont enlarge it. i use it as a steam pfp. i always wanted a smoking and beer drinking sonic so it was just funny to me when i created it. i dont need the cigarette or anything else in the picture to look perfect.

Gonna share the link(s) to these archived magazines with us or not?

you basically just have to type in the magazine you owned on archive.org and hope someone archived it.

>journalism (((school)))
The idea that you need to go to school just to become a reporter (or most things, really) is one of the most retarded mind prisons to which we ever succumbed.
>>
>>12841446
I know, fuck the system and schools and stuff, companies should just hire you based on vibes and just hope that it's true that you know what you're doing.
>>
>>12838552
Yeah. Hobbyist magazines switching from "experienced hobbyists giving their opinions on shit they've devoted a ton of time and money to" to "shitty journalists that are bitter about not getting a job in a 'real' publications shit out reworded press releases they got exclusive access to" was pure cancer.
