The intro was so fucking cool, then all of a sudden I'm dropped into a different character with a bunch of inventory slots, experience points, hordes of trash mobs, farming for exp, damage numbers, a giant and empty world map. What the hell is this gay shit? This is a fucking solo MMO, this is not Castlevania
You literally never need to grind in this game.
>>12832830It's about the style of game, rather than whether you "need" to grind or not. These types of games are devoid of intentional design, balance, tailored challenge, and memorable gameplay setpieces.
The game which ruined the series.
>>12832832You literally said you had to farm for exp right in your post.
>>12832829>This is a fucking solo MMODo you not know what Metroidvania means? It's a 2D action/adventure/exploration game, with some RPG mechanics added. It's nothing like an MMO at all. Single Player MMO is how you would describe something like Fable or FF12.
>thing bad
>>12832829If you really needed to grind in this game, I would recommend finding a new hobby
>>12832832Then don't play it. Hurr durr
Extremely low effort bait, it's as if a retarded child wrote that garbage. I'm brapping this thread, with no survivors.*BRRRRRRAAPPPPPP*
>>12832836Castlevania 2 had basically already laid the foundation and blueprint
>>12832832Have you considered the possibility that Symphony of the Night actually does have all of those things, and you're just so extremely biased against JRPGs that you're not quite capable of noticing it?Do you think there's even a 1% chance that you're wrong and that if you played the game with an open mind, you might actually enjoy it somewhat?
>>12832829OP you're dead wrong becau- ugh what what is th>>12832901*dies from exposure to brap*
>>12832906Yet it took for SotN to be successful to permanently ruin the series. C2 was just a blip and the series quickly course-corrected with C3.
>>12832829You don't need to bait so hard, OP. Try at least 50% less total retardation next time.
Symphony of the Night lacks meaningful level design, coherent enemy placement and exchanges Super Metroid's responsive user driven combat experience for prescriptive combat design. Why SotN is hailed as a classic, I will never know.
>>12832830
>>12833221>Why SotN is hailed as a classic, I will never know.Stunning visual presentation (sprites, assets, bgs), beautiful ost, sense of exploration, and most importantly fun. It's not that hard to figure out anon.>prescriptive combat designYou're supposed to get good.
>>12833221>[SOTN lacks] coherent enemy placementNo, it doesn't. It's not genius S-tier level design when it comes to enemy placement, but it's definitely coherent (and has plenty of variety)
>>12832836If SotN didn't come out you would be saying this about CV64. That's assuming the series even survived beyond it.
>>12832829I have never heard this term jarpig outside of vr. Are you just one guy with constant bad takes? Because it's such a narrow term I can't imagine there's more than one person running around doing it
>>12833941Legacy of Darkness saved it
>>12832829You need to do zero griending.
>>12833967Never actually tried LoD before. Is it really that much better?
>>12832829My only 2 complains about the game are:- After you beat the game, you CANNOT start a new game to have most weapons, most armors and items avaible from the begining.- is not avaible on steam.
>>12834331you unlock ng+ when the castle flips
>>12832830What if you want to 100% the game?
>>12832832>These types of games are devoid of intentional design, balance, tailored challenge, and memorable gameplay setpiecesUnless you don't grind, fucking retard.
>>12834331>- is not avaible on steam. This is a good thing, because giving money to Konami post-2009 is unconscionable.
>>12834439Why 2009 and not when they kicked kojima out later?
>>12834368SotN is designed to prevent grinding since enemies give less and less EXP the higher level you are to them. Eventually you reach a point where you would be getting single digit exp from whatever you're up against.
>>12834331>After you beat the game, you CANNOT start a new game to have most weapons, most armors and items avaible from the begining. What would be the point? The inverted castle is for experimenting with all of the OP endgame gear.
>>12834331>After you beat the game, you CANNOT start a new game to have most weapons, most armors and items avaible from the begining. You don't start with them, but a shit-ton of stuff is available to buy from the guy in the library, that isn't available on the first playthrough.
>>12832829This.If you want a proper Castlevania on PS1, play Chronicles.
>>12834449They already began restructuring by 2009 and nobody who has paying attention was surprised by what it resulted in come 2015. Plus. Team Silent got killed just a few years prior.
>>12834449Konami was already shitting the bed during the PS2 era, it was happening gradually so not everyone noticed it, but between some great games they released a lot of mediocre stuff and a few bad games, then as >>12836338 said, they started restructuring the company to the point most of their games were outsourced and it shows.
OP was just mostly shitposting because I had just started, but now that I've got a few hours in it, it's not really sparking joy. I'm realizing that this design is what metroidvanias like Hollow Knight copied, and I much prefer the Super Metroid design style in terms of map layout and progression. It's just a lot of aimless wandering, enemies aren't particularly interesting, the RPG mechanics are really underbaked, inventory management is a pain, and the map is just too damn large and uninteresting. Like even at its absolute best, it just feels like a second rate classicvania
>>12833221you have shit taste, that's whyhope this helps!
>>12837284What inventory management? You didn't play the game.
>>12832829>you don't like my jewey "porn+Howard Stern culture" more than Japanese culture
>>12834805To use the best weapons and best items from the begging of the game, as happens in aria of sorrow.
i wouldn't mind the bait if the OP spambot would just get better at it. Like:>wtf it's just a shitty jarpig grinding game? The intro was some bullshit mini boss with no difficulty curve respect and it took 30 minutes to beat then I had press X to next cutscene shit with some waifu in the clock, plus death just takes away all your stuff so NO player agency, and the whole game is railroaded and i ignored half the stuff and just beat the game in an hour pissed that the whole thing is just one castle and the end is depressing and i heard you could fight Samuel L. Jackson or some blaxploitation dude but I think that's just a meme so i didn't bother to look for him>t. autist with no internal monologue who can't comprehend atmosphere, exploration, or beauty, as evidenced by the "atmosphere" IRL is vape smoke and empty monster cans, i don't "explore" anything but my room (bathroom is the empty monster cans) and as for "beauty" i simp on GrokGenThere. That's SOTN bait, good or bad, at least it's obviously written by a human. Why do the bots get 200 (You)s and I don't (don't reply the question is rhetorical.)
>>12834805>experimenting with OP gearsomeday I'll do that but it's been 25 years and I'm still not bored of "KILL THEM BIG BUTT SHIELD ROD GIRL"

>>12838383The fact you can't even discard items and your inventory is just a giant clusterfuck lol. Changing out items for a new item that has 1 point higher in some arbitrary stat just isn't particularly interesting.
>>12838943>The fact you can't even discard items and your inventory is just a giant clusterfuck lol. Why?
>>12839487Are you 4 years old?
>>12838943There's a sort inventory button.
Castlevania was perfected a long time ago. Why go backwards?
>>12832832You whined about having to grind or get equipment (in a game that is so easy that most people have to impose self-challenges on their first play through). Than change it to say it's about "intiontional design". Wtf does that mean, that the designers didn't intend the equipment to be in there? There are only two things I get. One that you are angry and two that you are struggling to describe anything clearly. You have to be at least 18 to use this website but you write like someone who gets red marks all over their papers in English class.
>>12840002>You whined about having to grindJarpiggy mechanics don't belong in an action game, regardless of whether you need to grind or not. SotN is insanely poorly balanced, with excess bloat and mediocre encounter design, largely due to the RPG garbage.>get equipmentI said inventory management is obnoxious because it's poorly organized and you can't store/discard. Additionally, getting a +1 stat increase from a new item is not particularly exciting, and 90% of them can't even give that, they are just trash permanently polluting your inventory>Wtf does that meanIt means you need an IQ above 80, it's common sense to figure out what that means you fucking moron. Encounters feel sloppy, enemies are copy-pasted everywhere, damage taken is wildly inconsistent between different enemy attacks, boss damage and health pools are all over the place and rarely (actually never) pose an exciting challenge, enemies just feel obnoxious with their pisspoor damage but obnoxious and exaggerated knockback that every single fucking enemy attack gives you, the map is massively oversized, movement is very slow for the map size and amount of backtracking, and there is constant backtracking and meticulously checking every single dead-end for progression. Because the game is spread so thin and you can be such massively different power levels when facing various fights, there is a huge lack of intentionality. It's baffling the fact that you even admitted that you, the player, have to try some hacky, band-aid solution in order to attempt some semblance of balance, yet still can't see how it lacks intentionality.Anyways, I already beat Richter and my opinion has not changed, it's just solidified. It's a miserable slog of a game. At its absolute best, it still doesn't even reach the baseline level of a classicvania. I have a lot of issues with Super Metroid's combat, but at the very least, its map design, movement, and general pacing/progression are leagues better than SotN.
>>12840240Also, I want to add: I don't inherently dislike RPGs or RPG mechanics, infact they're probably my favorite genre. However they do require a lot more finesse to implement properly in an action game. Managing balance, progression, encounter design, combat feel in a game where you can have so many different builds, power levels, game routes is much more difficult than a linear action game where these variables are a lot more static.
>>12840240>I'm not good at the game and I didn't have funAnd this nigga has the audacity to talk about iq
>>12840262Man, you are such a fucking retard, I have cleared all the classicvania games, three of them deathless. I literally said >"bosses rarely (actually never) pose an exciting challenge And somehow your smooth shitbrain thinks I am complaining the game is too difficult, right..Some of you retards here are like NPCs. Zero brain activity, just blindly regurgitate the same routine with zero reading comprehension.>anyone who doesn't like my (easy to a fault) game MUST be filtered by it!>There's no other reason they could possibly dislike it, despite that laundry list of complaints that has zero fucking correlation to difficultyGenuine bot.

>>12840240>Jarpiggy mechanics don't belong in an action gameWhy not?
>>12840240This dude gets filtered by games every week lmao. The same fucking guy every time.
>>12840480Man got filtered by SotN's equipment screen, that's a new low in being shit at video games.

>>12841557I enjoyed many games this year, SotN was just mid, it will probably slot just behind Mega Man X3
>>12842006>I enjoyed many games this yearMostly really easy ones and modern slop. Why are you even on this board?
>>12842013I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion from the chart but I guess we're just spewing random bullshit now.
>>12842039It's not only blatantly obvious from the chart, but from every thread you make crying over whatever children's game utterly filtered you.
>>12842045I play on original hardware (MiSTer FPGA) with no cheats, save states, or guides, and I still beat almost all of those games, many 1CC, deathless, and/or highest difficulty. I need to stop coming to this board, I just get jealous at all the free time that you degenerates somehow have.OP's criticisms of the game are actually pretty reasonable, but gawddamn bro, that's like two entire games a week. You people cannot possibly be under the impression that this is normal, healthy, or sane.
>>12847576it's a replica of original hardware>>12847797most of those games only take a couple of hours. if i wanted to inflate my clear count i definitely could do it by playing trash like that guy plays. there are anons who dont have a single clear at all this year because they play rhythm games or whatever, and they have more hours and skill than that guy
>>12847797Most of those are pretty short though other than a few outliers like GTA:SA. Most retro games are not long if you skip rpgs. It's modern games really that can completely destroy your time. The amount of time the average player spends playing something like Minecraft Warframe or Path of Exile can be absolutely staggering
>>12847797Many of those he didn't beat, but got absolutely gaped by and cried on /vr/ over it. Starting at Guardian Legend to be exact. Hard games aren't really his thing.
Emulation Is Still A More Versatile Option Than A Mister At The Moment Unfortunately
>>12849369Did you copy a youtube title or something

>>12848313I beat Guardian Legend actually. I hated it at first, but it's not too bad.I didn't beat Omega Boost, Pocky & Rocky, Tomba, Beyond Oasis, Punchout, Umihara Kawase. I beat roughly halfway through each of those games, except Tomba that I dropped probably a quarter way in. I miiiight go back and beat those last two, but I doubt it. Everything else on that list I beat, many of them 1CC, deathless, 100%, and/or hardest difficulty.>>12847797Most are pretty short. Beating a lot of games is more about consistency and motivation than a ton of playtime. I probably average under 20 hours a week gaming.>>12847838Lmao, most of that list is not trash except the lower ones which were all either short or dropped. And no, /vr/ is full of shitters. I can count the halfway decent players on this board with one hand, they're not better than me (not even close), and most of them don't/rarely post here anymore. I stopped going for hard clears though because they're just boring, and I also completely stopped using save states because they devalue the experience.
>>12851225>I stopped going for hard clears>I also completely stopped using save statesReally says it all doesn't it? Get another hobby, you're clearly terrible at video games.
>>12851228I mean when you're going for 50+ very difficult deathless arcade clears in a year, it's only reasonable for your sanity to use save states. Obviously the save states are just for practice, a clear never uses them.I don't necessarily regret it, because shmups and arcade games in general were a genre I always wanted to get more acquainted with, but now they just burn me out and I have little interest. I'd rather play the classics just as they are meant to be played without save states. But it is funny how I had so little experience with these games and so quickly surpassed people that had been playing for waaaaay longer than me.
>>12851245I can promise you with 100% certainty that not a single soul gives a fuck.
>>12851247I wouldn't expect them to, I don't even care about my own clears.I never asked to live rent free in this poor anon's head. He just recognizes me in every thread and seethes about me
>Guys check out my awesome clears!>I surpassed tons of people guys!>Btw everyone who makes fun of me is one and the same personGod this guy is just such a pretentious faggot

I beat roughly halfway through each of those games, except Tomba that I dropped probably a quarter way in. >>12851294If those are your clears? No, you're not even remotely close, and you should kys for posting such an embarrassing image.
Why would you even keep a list of games you played, what sort of autism is that?
>>12852084It's nice for tracking/record keeping and helps choosing what to play next. When you beat so many games a year it's easy to forget some of them. It's very common for all sorts of media and other hobbies.
>>12851294>No ContinueI thought gamers called it 1cc.
