Why isn’t it talked about as much as King’s Field or Doom?
>>12833587Those games had english releases. Also this game gets talked about a lot now, especially on this website.
>>12833587Doom franchise is still going on even nowKing's Field have a small but dedicated fanbaseBaroque is poser-core slop, no one cares about this turd especially after everyone realized the ''dude the OG is better than the terrible demake!!!'' were big fat lies
i've never heard of this game but baroque music is pretty dank it's my chess soundtrackhttps://youtu.be/UFXhwgY7mugdoes this game have good music
>>12833587Too hard
>>12833620The game doesn't really have music, it has an ambient thrum, the soundscape is well done though.
>>12833587because shiturn.
>why isn't this no name forgotten game talked about as much as the widely played game that people still play and make maps for?I swear you get dumber by the day with uour shitty ass threads faggot
>>12833587Because it's a roguelike.
>>12833829I hate how the draw distance works in the PSX version. You can see entire square-tiles come and go one by one. It shouldn't have been complicated to replicate what the Saturn version did but ports always have to fuck something up.
>>12833587Peak youtubercore
>>12833619KF "fans" are larping soulsbabbies
>>12834152Isn't the Switch port also based on the original Saturn version?I dunno why you'd play the PSX version when even the devs acknowledge the Saturn version is the best
>>12833587>boring rogue slopThere's your answer.
>>12834181The PS1 version has extra content and quality of life features, it actually is worth playing on it's own even if I don't think it should be your first experience with the game.
>>12833587because its weird and ugly, and you have like die 4 times to beat the game for reals, but the game don't tell you that?
>>12833619>>12834165What makes it Youtubecore so easily?
>>12833829What the fuck is that monster design? I swear, every time I'm tempted to give this game a shot I see something else that repulses me
>>12834324Anything semi-obscure according to /vr/For example, pic related is Youtubecore
>>12834341that's the point, it's supposed to be disturbing & unsettlingit's a more interesting game than it is good, but definitely worth a try
>>12834346>disturbing & unsettlingNot the words I would use
>>12834324It baroque me
>>12833587>Depression Quest, Japan
>>12834324It's more interesting to discover than it is to play
>>12834341>EUGH! I'm APPALLED by this random thing! >And no, I will not elaborate. Read my mind and cater to my emotions!Shut the fuck up. You repulse everyone else when you act like an insufferable little bitch.
>>12833669This but GAYGA SHITTURN
>>12834350kek
>>12834345I like most of the youtube core games except King's Field and Kowloon's gate, IDK I don't see it as a huge insult that there are people who's tastes are swayed by content creators.
>>12834680What about Gadget: Invention, Travel, & Adventure?
>>12834790never herd of them. any relation to Inspector Gadget?>>12834680listicle them and be judged
>>12834341>getting repulsed by the grotesques instead of arousedNGMI
>>12833829Diablo 2 is a roguelike
>>12835473The hardcore mode is, regular game isn't.
>>12835497rouge-LIKEs don't have to be rogue-SAME.
>>12835506That's a roguelite.
>>12835508potato rogues/ poe tar toe rogues. semanticals.
>>12833587If you couldn't figure out the reason on your own you are retarded. Saturn wasn't a well sold console and it was a Japanese release of an entry tittle.
>>12834324>What makes it Youtubecore so easily?Crappy game that can be made to seem interesting for 30 minutes>>12834354>It's more interesting to discover than it is to playHey, that's a better way to put it
>>12834350Lol well done
>>12833619The remake is good? Usually it's the opposite.
>>12833619>poser-core slopFuck off with your meme influenced dialogue
>>12833620Based baroque enjoyer. It's a shame that after this year none of us will ever know if a newly released piece of classical music is something composed by a human or AI.
go baroque go broke
>>12836951if it ain't baroque, don't fix it. lmaobut yeah it's because it was a roguelike, even the superior (gameplay-wise) remake doesn't get talked about much because at its core it's a roguelike and that's very niche
>>12835907The remake is too different to call it better or worse one way or the other. The original had incredible atmosphere and presentation but the remake's atmosphere is just limp despite the more approachable garmeplay. You're not getting the same experience either way.
>>12838395The remake has more room for skilled play whereas the original just has you getting stuck in fucking hallways because a small enemy is in it and you can't easily dodge any incoming damage by paying attention to enemy patterns and only attacking with proper timing. It is overall a harder game that requires you to learn the roguelike mechanics it has such as what items do and making a better sword/coat etc. if you want to complete the postgame content. I think part of the remake's lesser atmosphere is just cleaner visuals and the fact it has actual music on most floors instead of the ambience tracks. The original game was from the early 3D era where games on PS1/N64/Saturn looked just cursed even when horror wasn't even the intent
>>12838412>I think part of the remake's lesser atmosphere is just cleaner visuals and the fact it has actual music on most floors instead of the ambience tracks. >>12838421He just can't handle the "liminal spaces". They're a reminder that his phone isn't currently dopamine hitting him every 10 seconds like a slot machine, and that's scary man.
>>12833669>>12834358PSXgegs forever malding
>>12834181I cant stand the way Saturn handles transparent effects, and PS1 version was easier to emulate since I don't have or know of a good Saturn emulator.
>>12839613>good Saturn emulatormednafen, with the mednaffe frontend for ease of use
>>12839613>I cant stand the way Saturn handles transparent effectsYmir has options to replace mesh transparency with real transparency and to render high res games like VF2 in progressive scanhttps://github.com/ymir-emu/Ymir
>>12836932If you actually care, then you don't actually like music.
>>12839871Nah don't be retarded.
>>12839613Yes ymir is good in my experience too
Imagine seething about the Sega Saturn forever
>>12833587Classic case of a shit game people hyped up cause it was a Japanese exclusive for ages only for an English patch to come out and reveal the truth.
>>12833587King's Field and Doom are series with developers that are still in the mainstream today. Baroque is one game except not really, made by a pretty niche dev.It does have killer atmosphere, though.
>>12839652mednafen can do that now too
>>12842225Source? I don't see anything about that in the changelog since the version I'm using, and the last update appears to be 2 years ago
>>12833619>You're not allowed to like things because YoutubeI hate this. I hate this.I played the Wii version with First Person on and it left a strong impression on me ever since. I'm happy whenever the game comes up, but this Poser cynicism is unbearable. I don't care if some youtube dweebs like it, in fact I'm happy that they're keeping it in the collective memory. I wish more people did that for Steambot Chronicles.
>>12843654>looking at the good side of thingsGet out
>>12842576The latest RA core has it. Don't know about the standalone, haven't used it for a while.
>>12847578Well that's cool but I'm not going to use retroarch just for that, I'll have to wait until ymir gets better
>>12847584>I'm not going to use retroarch just for thatTrue, you should be using retroarch for sharp-bilinear scaling across all cores so you can play at the correct non-square pixel aspect ratios without shmmering or inconsistent looking pixel sizes
Speaking of King's Field, is the fourth entry the best one (third in the west or whatever)? I think the aesthetic of final KF and Shadow Tower Abyss is just the best example of dreamlike ps2 graphics
>>12833587I don't know what to say. I first played it on Wii and later I found out it was basically the ps2 version with that weird and worse-looking third person mode. Then I went over to PSX on Retroarch and really enjoyed it, but all I can remember is that it is a bit obtuse to start with, and that I played for over an hour without achieving much.So basically it kinda has low difficulty level but also really slow progression and the floors are extremely samey.
>>12839652>>12847578SSF could do these 15 years ago. Nice progress.
>>12841935The visuals are spooky due to low-fi 3D but the actual game is nothing special and the remake is better as an actual game with gameplay, so it's all just "art" fags cooming themselves over what is mostly the result of the technical limitations of mid-90s console that could barely do anything 3D
