Thoughts about this game? How does it compare to Capcom vs SNK?
>>12837597Not favorably
Way more fun to play(without final bosses)
this game actually has a negative emotional aura
>>12837597Fighting games are almost unplayable with the xblox's d-pad. The game is more about the fanservice and the cool sprites than delivering a balanced game.
Never understood why people dislike the postapocalyptic stagesAlso Shiki is pure sex
>>12837597It has a really cool art style, it's very dark and moody, the vs games are such a big confluence of assets and art that they don't always feel coherent, this feels like it has a specific vision. Gameplay is just okay, bad if you're a sweaty, but it's worth fucking around with for an afternoon.
>>12837624Name a single fighting game from that time period with any sort of balance
>>12837619Elaborate
>>12837634Not the anon you're replying to but the game does have a really dark atmosphere, and the game is set in hell which is a really weird choice.
>>12837627Balance is overrated and just something jackasses in the tournament scene spit on about so they can keep their money ride going.
>>12837624SvC is unplayable with any sort of d-pad because doing GCFS(dash version) is hell
>>12837634this game even manages to make a depiction of fluffy cloud heaven feel unsettling (Athena's stage and theme)
>>12837634You know how a lot of crossover games have a really peppy kind of party like atmosphere? This didn't.
>>12837597Mediocre. It has Goenitz, though.
>>12837627
>>12837634For me the game has a sort of grunge-punk atmosphere
>>12837597Graphically phenomenal Horrendous balancing
>>12837597It has Inti Zero, so i love it to death.
>>12837597Literally designed by SNK to represent itself on death’s door (the other side of the door at that). The circumstances of its development alone make it unique, and it really comes through in the final product as other anons have mentioned. The character selections are unique and tailored to what the devs like, as opposed to “who is popular and makes us the most money” because money was no longer a concern at that point. The sprite art is a treat, especially seeing the SF cast in the “realistic” KoF art style. There is unique pre-fight dialogue for EVERY match up and some are quite funny (everyone gives chun li shit for her big legs). As a single and local multiplayer experience it’s a gem. There is really nothing else like it.
>>12838915Too bad they made Bison a joke character.
>>12837619>>12837634>>12838915What was up with those backgrounds? The first two monochrome abandoned buildings I saw were cool, my impression was "They all can't be like that" but they were.
>>12839441I don't think there's an official explanation. You may find shit like "the characters are fighting in purgatory" but that's actually the plot for the manhua, which is a licensed fanfic.
>>12837597As a casual, love this game. Always wanted an evil Ken version since we had evil Ryu, so getting Violent Ken was pretty awesome, especially since Ken is my first pick in any 2d fighter game he’s in. Loved the art style and presentation. Didn’t get as much playtime in my circles as MvC 2 and Capcom vs SNK 2, but still had a lot of fun w it.
>Only On Xbox>Win an SVC Chaos cabinet
>The last game to emulate in the neo geo arcade cabinetsI think samurai showdown V special and KOF 2003 came out before this if I remember correctly.
>>12840206Just checked, I was wrong. they both came out afterwards...
>>12837625>Shiki is pure sex>doesn't bother to imagepostunconvincing
>>12837597One of the jankyest major release fighters ever. There is a lot of odd choices in the game even down to the hit sounds. But all that said I actually enjoy it quit a bit. Its got some fun mechanics if you're willing to invest and learn the game.
>>12837626>this feels like it has a specific vision.I think that vision was more or less>We have the contract and we won't win over cvs2tards so let's make something that'll keep them up at night
not bad but not great either, it also had that weird empty feeling a lot of those end of life neogeo games had
>only on xboxbut why
>>12841901>cvs2tardsDidn't exist back then. CvS2 was very poorly recieved on release. Tournaments were empty.
>>12837597There's something very sad, melancholic, and subdued about this game's tone. Which is weird because fighting games are supposed to be really hype and exciting.
>>12842489>very sad, melancholic, and subdued about this game's toneEvery single matchup has a unique jokey dialogue before the fight.
>>12841939Sony of America hated 2d
>the world has ended>everything's dead and/or in ruins>these characters are fighting to the death to survive>even the future is deleting itself, that's why Zero is here>even Heaven is an unsettling place after whatever happened>WHY DOES THIS GAME FEEL SO NEGATIVE????If it played half well, it'd be ludo. Alas
>>12837597Why were there so many of this random ass fighting games that all played similarly back in the late 90s/early 2000s.
>>12844438See >>12839515
I got a very nice copy of the Japanese release and it’s pretty cool. Comes w Mai and Chun Li on the cover and it has some stickers and pins and shit. Would’ve been cool if the US release had gotten something similar. Also Violent Ken is the best character in 2d fighter history
>>12844525
>>12837597It's just crap.
>have to do a bunch of bullshit to get a character's endingseriously, what the FUCK were they thinking
>>12837718Man, you weren't kidding:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGv7QJ00OJI>>12841259pic related
>>12848421Super Turbo also has all those problems.
>>12837597Despite all its jank, I still like the game even though most people don't. I really like the off-kilter oddball choice in roster: Earthquake, Demitri over Morrigan, Mars People, Zero instead of Rockman, etc. SVC Chaos is a fun game to give a play every now and then, but I do prefer CVS2 as it is the game my friends gather around to play in a party setting.
>>12837619You have an negative pestilence Mr smith
>>12841915>>12839515>>12839441I wonder if the knowledge that they were developing what would likely be one of the last official releases for greatly outdated arcade hardware impacted the decision to go with a post apocalyptic theme. The setting of the game reflected the irl state of the NeoGeo platform itself, like a Segagaga sort of thing, but more symbolic than literal.
>>12848450The game went the stupid route by being a normal 1v1 round based faita. Instead of going the 2v2 tag team of mvc1, that literally wrote itself and yet somehow they didn't saw the forest for the trees
>>12841946Shut up Smith
>>12848552>being a normal 1v1 round based faitaThank god. Assist-based games suck ass.
>>12848552It still had its unique mechanics with its Maximum mode at meter full. SNK did offer a tag option and KOF styled 3-team series in addition to traditional 1v1 matches in the NGPC version. Give the portable version a try, as it is excellent.
>>12848450>JankThere is that retarded term again
>>12839441>What was up with those backgrounds?I am absolutely sure they are recycled assets.
>>12848564Shut up Mister Smith
