I enjoy this genreSutte Hakkun is the best one by far, but Solomon's Key and Wrecking Crew are also great examples of the genre I'm talking about. This is one of those genres that was semi-common on retro systems but has all but disappeared nowadays. There are definitely puzzle games and action games with puzzle elements, but not really many full-on Action Puzzlers. What are your favorites in this genre?
Flappy is a solid classic that's oddly unknown outside Japan. Also the Lode Runner series.
>>12837635>Flappy is a solid classic that's oddly unknown outside Japan. It wasn't released on the NES outside of JapanIt's also a super early Famicom game from a third party that's not Hudson or Namco so it looks and sounds a bit primitive compared to other games of the timeI agree it's fun though
>>12837637It's not primarily a Famicom game, it was on every relevant platform in Japan at the time.
>>12837631Kino game. Replay it every couple of years.
>>12837631I miss these kind of covers like you wouldn't believeJust a little scrimblo bimblo jumping around in a land of whimsy
Solomon's Key, Solomon's Club, and Fire 'N' Ice are the holy trifecta in my eyes. Cattrap and the Godzilla Game Boy game are also enjoyable
>>12837631Love Loderunneralso Q*Bert, though I'm not very good at it, the sequel is great too
Fear Effect is the closest I can think of of a 3d Action puzzle game.
Solomon's Key is probably in the top 10 or 15 NES/Famicom games, and I say that as someone who considers that library quite highly
>>12837631I really liked Kickle Cubicle.
>>12837631>What are your favorites in this genre?I liked Moai Kun, challenge just right for me that I had to scratch my head but never resort to using a guide
>>12837631Sutte Hakkun is a wonderful game, but also gets deviously difficult in the later levels. That a fully developed Game Boy and then another Game Boy Color version were developed, but never marketed or shipped thus were a complete unknown until the giga leak happened, is wild. That GBC version just recently got a fan translation, too. https://github.com/vervalkon/Sutte-Hakkun-GB-translation
>>12841070On the off chance you didn't know, check out Little Medusa. As a Kickle fan myself, I found it fun, though a little too hard at the end (couldn't beat the game).
I'm a big fan of kula quest (or kula world or roll away)
Does Oddworld count or is it too much action/adventure?
>>12841143Tysm anon. Never knew about the Gameboy version!
>>12844313It's borderline. Most of the involving puzzles are optional too.
>>12837631Still insane that Nintendo made this game. The last fourth of the game was designed by Hitler or something its insane how much critical thinking and execution is required for that stuff. They will never make a game that cool again. Also has the most Casiopea sounding Nintendo soundtrack yet.>>12841143I hate to say it but from what I played I kinda get why it wasn't released. Not as good. Also love Pitman/Catrap.
>>12842332That looks interesting. Is that a new SNES game?
3 wonders.
Turbo Turtle Adventure for GBA looks like it'd be shovelware but is actually quite good
>>12845002Nintendo puzzlers can be surprisingly brutal. I expected kirby's dream course to be baby mode easy like the platformers but that game does not fuck around in the later half.

>>12850637Based Intelligent Qube poster. I thought about posting it but wasn't sure it fit the same vibe as the other games mentioned here. I feel like, in terms of design, it plays more like a well-based arcade style puzzle game such as Tetris and Puyo Puyo. I still want to get a round in where all my boards are par, but I still have struggles planning many of the later rounds.
>>12846406Canvas Curse's draw-inside-the-lines mode is mean as fuck. Took me forever.
