For stuff like Date East games you might as well get a 160 in 1, those games work perfectly, its the KOF and SNK vs Capcom games that are jacked up on those. It's game dependent since Neo Geo CD games range from a a few dozen megabits to hundreds. Some smaller early games like Cyberlip or Baseball Stars have a single long load of about a minute and then you can play as much as you want, annoying but reasonable. Some early vs fighters or larger games like Pulstar load by stage, about 30 sec. It's when you get into the later games, especially the vs fighters that the wheels come off the wagon, separate loading the splash screen, the fighters intro poses, round 1, round 2, maybe round 3 and sometimes cutscenes, loading ends up being longer than the fights. The Neo Geo CD was made with those early games in mind but it came late enough that they should have known the bigger games were coming. There is a reason most of the missing games were later, larger sized games. Not only were they hesitant to cheap out on the drive in the first place but they knew how much they fucked up basically the moment it launched. They delayed their US launch a full and very critical year to find a solution and then launched the slow version anyway. SNK fucked up huge all to save a small amount of money and it probably tanked their console.
