I got a MiSTer a little while ago and, after arcade games, I have a secondary interest in bishoujo. I'm rather blindsided by all the games on old hardware I never thought I'd have access to, so I'm here to ask for your recommended retro galge.I don't need the games to be in English thanks to years of flashcards and I'm not only asking for adventure games/VNs like Chobits (GBA) or dating sims like Tokimemo. Most anything that revolves around pretty girls works. It can be simulation games like Tanjou and Wonder Project J2 or even gamier stuff like the Puzzledama spinoff or the Super Real Mahjong series.I am particularly interested in learning of a game's best versions and knowing what's been superseded. I don't necessarily need the smuttiest edition, but unless it's a Ryukishi07 situation, I also tend to prefer the original art and seiyuu over today's redrawn iterations. For example, Doukyuusei on Saturn apparently makes tradeoffs with all but the most recent DMM release that it's still worth playing, but Dou2 on Windows is supposedly the definitive experience.
If you like arcade puzzle games and galge, you should definitely play Puzzle! Mushihime-tama.It's a very cute and happy and fun falling-block puzzle game about a sexy princess rescuing her cute little bug friends in a magic forest. It is a "prequel" to Mushihime-sama, so you can fully enjoy it even if you haven't played that game.
Pure Mail is pretty cool>>12839521>I'm not only asking for adventure games/VNs like Chobits (GBA) or dating sims like Tokimemo. Most anything that revolves around pretty girls works. >>12839521i don't play ma john games. try the untranslated /vst/ for PC98.
>>12839521>Doukyuusei on Saturn apparently makes tradeoffs with all but the most recent DMM release that it's still worth playingSaturn is the best voiced version of DoukyuuseiFor non-voiced, either one of the original DOS versions (PC-98 or DOS/V) or the 2nd Windows port (called オリジナル版), depending on your taste for the color paletteUnfortunately, for voice fans, there's no perfect version of Doukyuusei 1. The console ports (Saturn, PC Engine) obviously have their sex-scene detail toned down (you still have sex in the console versions, but it's less explicit), and what should've been the uncensored voiced version, the 1999 Windows port, unfortunately suffers from a bunch of bizarre changes to story events that really fuck with it, removing the entire point of some scenes, changing character personalities, orphaning foreshadowing by removing what it was supposed to be foreshadowing. Mechanically it plays the same, and the bulk of the text is the same, but it was like someone went through with laser-precision to break just the right things to degrade the stories. Part of this is that it somehow manages to be far less sexual than the non-adult-rated PCE/Saturn ports, with multiple sex scenes re-written to where they don't actually go through with it for one reason or another. And then sadly the 2021 remake is based on the 1999 version rather than the original, for whatever reason. Funnily it actually does slightly undo a bit of the bad changes but not most of them.
>>12839521Well there's quite a lot to choose from.I'll go ahead and shill marica I guess(Sega Saturn)
>>12839758"The otherwise definitive PC-98 version doesn't have voice acting." is a problem for like every PC-98 game. It's the most aggravating thing about the platform. I wonder how feasible back-porting voice acting is.
>>12839785eh I think most Windows ports of PC-98 games are fine, just some specific ones to avoidIn the case of elf's games, they have a bunch of Windows ports, and Doukyuusei 1 and Words Worth are the only ones where I'd say to avoid (specific) Windows versions. (I suppose one could debate which of the two Windows ports of Kakyuusei is better, but they're both great.)Of course if you want the original 16-color PC-98 art and not the expanded color palette versions, then yeah that limits things more. Seems like direct ports of PC-98 games that didn't change the art also tended to not add voices.

>>12839593That's the Puzzle Uo Poko sequel right? I remember looking up less known vs. puzzle games and someone brought it up. The CV1000 core is still early days, but I'll keep it in mind, thanks!>>12839594You're not entirely wrong, just finishing SRM PV ate up a few hours even starting at the lowest rank and it's supposed to be an arcade title. Making and losing progress being a matter of who completes their hand first also makes riichi a shallow experience without a real point economy, so I can't enjoy the mahjong as much as I'd like. Still, I find the overall experience charming enough. Even when I lost near the end, Akira with her hair down exhaling with her palms on her cheeks and shyly going "残念ね。もう少しだったのに," activated the neurons. I did buy the newest entry on Steam on release, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Will be cool to see how this series has evolved if at all as I go through each one.Puremail is Windows only it seems. The one off Nyaa should be fine, yeah? It's in the School Days and Cross Days universe and with the new show coming out I might as well play those too, I guess.>>12839758I really appreciate your posts, exactly the kind of info I'm looking for since these things seem seldom well documented (or I'm just not looking in the right places). I'll definitely go ahead with Saturn Doukyuusei. I was a little annoyed my set didn't have Kakyuusei, but I guess that's moot if the Windows ports are that plus more. Now I wish PC-98 core development wasn't dead. If only there was a patch for Saturn YU-NO's soundtrack.>>12839776Looks like an edgier MegaTen. Apparently it's very well respected. I'll keep this one earmarked, thanks!>>12839805A strategy game with random turn order sounds like hell.

>>12840040she is cute so i looked it up its a strip mahjong game? does it actually have lewd images i saw a boob pic of a version called vs. did you play arcade or saturn version. ive been wanting to learn mahjong for a while as it seems fun especially after watching saki maybe i should give this a go. i just got a mister also
>>12840731Thank you! This one I've never seen or heard of, and it has its own spinoff with the same characters as well. Will definitely play this.>>12841102Really helpful pic, it's nice to at least see the covers rather than just text lists. I wasn't familiar with DATAM, so I looked them up. The Roommate series sounds like a proto-Love Plus in that it relies on a real time clock, and the 2 month restriction is very interesting. A shame about Futari's gamebreaking bugs. I might try this in time for next summer to fit the theme better, though Asami on the DC looks more my type. The Dragon Master Silk games also seem like the lite RPG experiences that hit the spot for me between grinding clears. Even the Sugoroku piques my curiosity. I think I could get my friends who enjoy Dokapon to try it though I'd have to invest in a SNAC multitap.I love how among all the galge Datam put Trizeal on the PS2 too. What a based company.>>12841804Yeah, that's from footage I took of SRM PV on the Saturn core. I wanted to post my favorite shot of her but there was a tiny nip slip and I didn't want to risk it. The main games, originally for arcade, are strip mahjong, but there's lots of ports for different systems besides the Saturn that didn't allow explicit content. Starting from PII is apparently when they went the anime route over digitized photos, and the consequences reflect in the series' longevity since it's still ongoing. The Saturn has ports for PII-PIV through Graffiti, PV, PVI and PVII as well as Real Mahjong Umi e Summer Waltz. P8 is when the series went to mobile before releasing a P2-7 compilation on Switch and the newest PC entry on Steam.Don't dismiss other platforms though, maybe the console conversions don't get the full animations, but so far I've found exclusives on the PC Engine, GBA and NGPC with their own charming pixel art.SRM VS is actually on N64 based hardware. The one thing about arcade mahjong is you'll need to map 21+ keys.Pic from PCE SRM Special
>>12841887would it be hard to learn mahjong via playing these? also are the saturn versions full lewd like arcade?
Is there any way to replicate the arcade strip mahjong experience with an FPGA and an USB mahjong controller with those A to M keys? Is there any kind of community support for those?
>>12842007Learn what "furiten" means and use these.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaku_(Japanese_mahjong)#List_of_yakuhttps://euophrys.itch.io/mahjong-efficiency-trainerPlay home ports so no time limits. Be aware the girl games are typically a cut down riichi, either due to lack of players or score economy.Graffiti, PV and PVI are X-ratedhttps://segaretro.org/File:Segax.pngPVII is only "mature"https://segaretro.org/File:Sega18.png>>12842228Any USB controller with 21+ inputs will work. Every core lets you remap buttons. I doubt most properly handle an arcade or console panel through another interface, but it'd be useful to document. The support of these games feels incidental since I doubt too many are testing against real cabs, they're merely used for working verification. That said, I'm only aware of the following AC MJ games in current stock update_all:>Mahjong G-Taste>Mahjong Hot Gimmick Integral>Pro Mahjong Kiwame S>Super Real Mahjong VS>Virtual Mahjong 2 - My Fair LadyI wrote the following before I reread your question, but figure it's worthwhile for future reference. You just need a USB device with 21+ inputs. There's 14 for the tiles (incl. Backspace, that's coincidentally the entire number row of a keyboard, and some panels make the 14th key bigger anyway since discarding your draw is the most common action), 1 each for chi, pon, kan, riichi & "ron/tsumo", then coin and start. To play games with betting you'd also need: bet, small, big, double, "last chance" and "take score" for a total of 27 without luxury inputs for menus. SRM doesn't have bets, but other strip MJ might.Pic from a credit feed of Virtual Mahjong 2. It's 4P CPU but there's still no score economy. Stick based instead of panel controls, automatic menus for calls. Depending on how you win your hands, your stats change and that determines her costume in intermission so there's some replayability. She shows polygon tits at the end, but her 2D credit art is cuter. Not very good.

I was looking for Cosmic Psycho X68K (well originally I was looking for Cotton since it's still so much the best version in audio and visuals that it's both included in and formed the basis of Reboot!) and I also stumbled upon Super Real Mahjong PIV for the X68000. I only played a couple hands but saw some pantsu. Then I found the PII and PIII compilation and grabbed that as well. Interestingly, these ports are by Ving who were known for their arcade to home conversions in this era, especially for the Saturn. This is the first one I've played on a PC platform and I had to actually use my keyboard.Thankfully the manual was posted, though I referenced the one for PC-98 first which had similar controls.https://archive.org/details/superrealmahjongp4x68k/img006.jpgAssuming your core keyboard is set to "MiSTer":>F1 Insert Coin, F2 StartWith 0 coins inserted and before you start a credit, F5 enters Battle Mode where you "advise" your favorite girl against the others 1v1. PII Shouko and PIII Miki & Kasumi are also included. You have to hold the Space key to start at this screen, tapping it crashes in my experience.>1 thru = correspond to A~L>Return and Space correspond to NNeither \ aka ¥ nor Backspace corresponds to M, however you can use your letter keys directly as the linked page states. This is not in the PC-98 manual.>F6~F10 correspond to Kan, Pon, Chi, Riichi and Ron/TsumoThere's supposed to be a config mode that also lets you replay animations and sounds but unfortunately every HDF and HDM set of the game I've found goes directly into arcade mode and none of the other keys besides Escape (and ` in other kb settings) to exit are functional.I ended up also playing a little PII/PIII which comes in 6 disks but loads instantly so isn't that unwieldy. Mouse is supported and instead of A-N, tiles are labeled by their number row key. Action menus open automatically, boots to title screen and config mode has replay. I recommend this version if you're learning.

>>12841974I remember I had the second Doki Doki Pretty League as a converted PSP cso back when it was too advanced for me (and now I watch the occasional NPB game). I didn't realize it had a another sequel on the Playstation. Is DDPL something I should start from the beginning of the PSX trilogy or would Lovely Star be a worthwhile lone impression of the series? Also which of those 36 games would you most recommend?>>12849096Damn, this is interesting. Immediate Lain vibe from the poster. How are the other Yarudora stories?I had some extra space on my SD from culling alternate NeoGeo roms and decided to fill it with more curiosities. Pic is from Metal Orange EX, an enhanced X68K port of Cyberblock Metal Orange on the PC-98 and PC-88. The art is by Yanagi Hirohiko and the soundtrack is by Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata. Some might know the two for their RPG and shmup scores and both are founders of Basiscape alongside Manabu Namiki. The game itself is still just Arkanoid with Gradius's user-controlled power up system letting you equip your paddle with lasers and activate genei jin. The levels for the first girl already get tedious, but you have infinite continues and a save/load system at the end of every set of stages. Alongside bishoujo CGs as a reward, it might be one of the few block breakers I'll go back to.

>>12853287I'm dramatically more bothered by her hair completely fusing to the back of her head.>>12851509Funny enough I had the easiest time with Akira, the last girl. You can set the rank to 1, I don't see any reason not to. Since you don't really get rewarded for defensive play, which is the most control you have in regular riichi mahjong, you'll typically win just from being dealt decent starting tiles and playing efficiently.Don't neglect the trainer I linked:https://euophrys.itch.io/mahjong-efficiency-trainerGeneral advice to people learning Japanese MJ is you normally want to keep your hand closed for better value and flexibility, but you should familiarize yourself with open yaku like Sanshoku, Ittsuu, Toitoi, Tanyao, Chanta and honor tiles to accelerate your hands.>>12854838That's Miki from Super Real Mahjong Special on the PC Engine CD. It stars Shouko from PII and Miki and Kasumi from PIII, all fully voiced. Unlike the arcade games you can pick who you want to play against and also unlike the arcade games, winning or losing isn't just whoever wins that hand but whoever gets to 0- points first meaning score and defensive play matters. I can't recommend it to beginners though since the AI is more devious and can't be configured, the starting point difference as you unlock higher tiers of photos gets bigger and bigger and you have to manually scroll the screen and open the actions menu. Since it's still 1v1, defensive play won't save you from the CPU self drawing a win and you'll always pay the full amount. On top of that you still can't freely view unlocked scenes and need to replay the match.P.S. My posting is fucked, 4chan "temporarily" banned my IP range again. We live in the gayest timeline. Here's the pic I would've attached: https://files.catbox.moe/atnu6q.png
