Tooie is way better than Kazooie. BK has several points in its favor admittedly, but it's really not close. BT is in another fucking ballpark entirely and BK pales in comparison. You just don't like it as much cuz Tooie assumes the player is reasonably smart/curious, competent, doesn't need their hand held, and will be fully engaged with the game. It was designed with the assumption of the player spending a lot of their time, care, focus and investment into the game. BT upped the ante from BK, but that's literally not a bad thing at all. The fact the game has a lot of meat on its bones just means you're eating good. It's not Banjo-Tooie's fault that your brain has been fried by smartphones. You got filtered the fuck out. Banjo-Tooie didn't fail to live up to your expectations. You failed to live up to Banjo-Tooie's expectations.
finallya smart game for smart gamers
>>12839692it's not really a smarts thing it's more an impulsivity/short-form content addiction thing
>>12839683Its more fleshed out but so comparatively dense that it relies heavily on investment and discovery and its flaws come out on replay. Plus like all N64 rare games its impressive for the time and hardware but aged poorly in terms of QoL. Modern players lack this context and patience so just find it a slog and then usually go online to vent about DK64, a completely different game.
>>12839683Nah it's just a slogWorld 3x time bigger but same running speed as Banjo kazooie+much more backtracking
>>12839683>note savingClassic case of a developer not understanding why the game worked to begin with.
>>12839737You can teleport and the levels literally only have 2 things (on average) you need to backtrack for
>>12839683>way better>several points in its favor (unspecified)>it's really not close>another fucking ballpark entirely>pales in comparison>You just don't like it>upped the ante>that's literally not a bad thing at all>a lot of meat on its bones>you're eating good>your brain has been fried>You got filtered>failed to live up to expectationsYou write a lot of words, but say very little.Next time: "I think Tooie is better than Kazooie because it has more faith in the player."From there you could start listing examples.
>>12839683>It's not Banjo-Tooie's fault that your brain has been fried by smartphones.smartphones did not exist when everyone on earth realized that BK was better. why do weird zoomers inject themselves into spaces they arent welcome and pretend like they understand whats going on. Go post under a minecraft youtube video about block colors.
>>12839683I just remember the washing machine in the stupid factory.
>>12839789The Minecraft wool/concrete colors suck ass. I'm tired of seeing fucking cactus green in the fucking rainbow where it does not belong, and the color set is very clearly missing important colors like mint green. The Minecraft rainbow should obviously use these 12 colors (RGB + CYM + all the colors exactly between them), and then have a set of dark shades and light pastels of each of them, for 36 total rainbow blocksAnyway what were we talking about
>>12839743Notes not saving would have been fucking apocalyptically bad in Tooie
>>12839683>BT upped the ante from BKIt literally does the opposite of that. "Upping the ante" means taking the same concepts and making them more challenging, such as new variations on these concepts which assume the player already mastered the original. Tooie took the same concepts then added new concepts and then stretched all that and stretched them some more and then stretched them again, without ever reaching a point where it's more challenging than the original, it just has more things to do. And that, is precisely what sequels of action games for kids did at the time, like Spyro 2/3, because video games had already reached the point where it wasn't allowed anymore to challenge kids, you just get them more braindead things to do. "Upping the ante" is Super Mario Bros 2J; it's Tomb Raider 3 (not aimed at kids).
>>12839683Damn bro you like banjo tooie? You MUST be a genius living at your mom's house. Lmao you fuckin idiot
>Tooie assumes the player is reasonably smart/curious, competent, doesn't need their hand held, and will be fully engaged with the game. For the people who well and truly get their jollies from the base mechanics of steering a little fuzzy dude around a britbong cartoon world, I think this argument rings true, and I hear the same defense from the DK64 diehards. But you've also got to realise that most gamers, both old and new, are not collectathon autists like yourself. For you, the 2-3x increase in collectables and backtracking is an unambiguous positive because that was what you came to Kazooie for. I like Kazooie because it has tight level design, decent platforming and a well paced carousel of environments. Tooie is a downgrade in all three of those aspects, so I like it a lot less. I don't care if the levels are bigger and there's more shit to pick up and backtrack to, because those things are not what I find fun about the genre. You've got to think outside your own preferences and understand this, or else you'll just be seething forever.
>>12839683it took me 15 years and at least 4-5 attempts to finish tooie despite loving the first game. I remember buying it at launch and I dont know what it was but it never clicked. it was obviously more of the same, literally what everyone wanted but it somehow was too much.
>>12839683tooie is my favourite game ever, but when i last beat it (as a kid) i was sick of playing it, and i knew it would be a massive commitment to play it again. like ff9, my other favourite game ever, i can't see myself playing it again. it came out 25 years ago, and it's still the most exhaustive platforming game ever made, people say it isn't tight like BK, but after you beat BT and go back to BK you're left wanting more, it feels empty and like a prototype compared to BT, showing that BT is in fact "tight". it's not fair to compare BT with DK64 either, because the tag barrel forces backtracking and revisiting areas, artificially extending the length of the game, BT has transformations sure but it's not to the level of DK, having multi-world jiggies and objectives is a different thing entirely. they really figured out how to maximise the scope of a game, it mogs the shit out of zelda in that respect, and showed that they knew what to do with threeie, but they weren't given the respect or time to make it happen, and nobody has followed in their footsteps because they all miss that the whole idea was to make grand but tight experiences, not short levels, not relic races or whatever the fuck artificial replayability you can conjure, but make the worlds feel deep and alive. that is the essence of collectathons, collecting shouldn't be the emphasis, but using them sparingly to guide the player through the world in interesting ways, interacting with characters, and immersing them into it.
>>12839683>Tooie is way better than Kazooie. If that was true people wouldn't have to make weekly threads saying as much.
