There's never been quite any game like it, you are a statue, and you can look around, absorb various objects but only on your vertical level or below, and create them in your view. You can also create another statue, and transfer your consciousness into it. Creating things and moving costs energy, absorbing them gains it. This is the only way to actually move, absorb enough energy to create a new statue and "become" it.

The goal of the game is to get from where you start, to the high point of the level, so you can absorb the Sentinel. The Sentinel is like a clock in a way, it's a statue that ticks clockwise, every so often at a fixed rate, and if it can see you it can absorb your energy. It can also create minions to harass you.

The game is incredibly fascinating and it has ten thousand levels, enough to keep anybody busy for a lifetime. There's really never been a game like it, there's a PS2 game that's a sequel though.

superb game, the commodore 64 version is the slowest however, its runs quicker on the speccy lol.
MS-Dos version wins but eh Amiga version has far better sound FX and music.

I just play it at 2MHz on the C64. Makes it butter smooth. Some games get weird and crashy as hell at higher CPU speeds, others are fine. This one's fine.

One part of the suspense was the sluggish turning rate. This is why Sentinel 2000 isn't as good as the original.

Eh there's a warp mechanic that lets you skip levels. If you want to beat the game I think it's doable in a few months of grinding, that said, I haven't actually done it. Your biggest enemy is boredom as the game is quite repetitive after the novelty wears off.

BTW the PS remake had a soundtrack composed by John Carpenter.

Oh I didn't know that, that dude's multi talented for sure. Maybe he liked the OG game or something? Very high profile dude to be making a PS2 soundtrack. I actually got the PS2 version but haven't played it yet.

I hear he did a lot of soundtracks for a lot of things, he was basically a musician first and a filmmaker second.
