About to play KH1 for the first time, what am I in for?I intend to play through the whole series if I like it enough.
>>12844078Faggy melodramatic bullshit
>>12844078First game is good. Dropped the series after 2, thought that one was boring and didn’t feel like playing all the spinoffs which are crucial to the plot.
>>12844078more like STINKDUMB FARTS
>>12844230Bodied that freak
>>12844078ARPG structured like a Disney movie featuring Final Fantasy characters, with party members that aren't just glorified item/Form/Limit bots like in later titles. Also probably the first high-quality videogame dub - prior to KH1 nip games had really bad dubs as if they didn't even try.Choose Staff if you're playing vanilla KH1, choose anything if Final Mix (I recommend Sword to get used to more action-oriented combat in later titles).Quality of writing drops after KH1 and after KH2 it's better to turn off critical thinking. You've been warned.
>>12844228spbpKh1 is like a disney game with FF cameosAfter it became a bunch of faggy jpop yaoi melodrama
>>12844496Yeah I still take a run through KH1 every few years. It has a special spot in my nostalgia gland. 100 acre wood really does a number on me because some of my first memories are Winnie the Pooh. The OST is burned into my brain. Not every game needs a DMC huge deep combat system and I like that about KH1, although it does push u w some of those optional bosses like Kurt sizu or whatever that contest winners name was, that boss is balls hard. Also fighting Sephiroth in an action game was pretty novel at the time, he hadn’t been completely ran into the ground.
It's a fun game, and more challenging than what you'd probably expect, given the age rating and Disney linkage (especially if you go into the extra bosses). The series as a whole gets very lore-heavy and convoluted, though the first game is fairly understandable on its own (you will collect documents over the course of the game, and if you read those, you'll start to get a feel for how things progress). If you like the story, keep in mind that the non-numbered games are still integral to the overall plot, with Chain/Re:Chain of Memories taking place immediately after the first game. 358/2 Days and Re:Coded only exist as DS games, with the HD collections turning them into movies (and placing 358 before II, even though it was released after).
>>12844078the gameplay is generally pretty fun. dont take the writing/plot too seriously, just let it be chuuni "love and friendship will always win" slop. you dont have to "believe" it or agree with it to still be able to enjoy it. later games get more bloated, but kh2 is still pretty decent. kh3 has decent core gameplay, but a lot more little minigame gimmicks. i never bothered playing any of the others, and the story and characters for them are even gayer than usual. level design of 2 was worse than 1 because it removed a lot of the platforming and exploration and turned it into hallways and square rooms. 3 had good level design.overall, your mileage may vary, but it really depends more on how seriously you take things and whether you can just let it be what it is or not.
Someone please explain, is the reason these games exist because Square and Disney were BIG companies that wanted to make A LOT of money? To me it just seems like two very random universes mashed together Make it make sense.
>>12844078a really janky really badly made game with abysmal platforming and button mash combat
>>12845409>1990s, Japan>Disney JP and Squaresoft share the building>one day these two (one works at Disney, one works at Square) meet each other in the elevatorhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinji_Hashimotohttps://www.mobygames.com/person/69736/emiko-yamamoto/>they greet each other and do a small talk, but then one of them brings up "weird how we work in the same building but never worked together">both went into deep thoughts as they exit the elevator>Hashimoto instantly went to the room where Hironobu Sakaguchi was and started discussing it>Sakaguchi was saying stuff like "it absolutely HAS to have Mickey in it!" while Hashimoto was saying "no, they won't allow it">in the same room Tetsuya Nomura was sitting in the corner while listening to those two talking>Nomura had this weird goal to make his own IP that could rival SM64 in popularity, and having access to Mickey Mouse could greatly speed up the process>he interrupted their talk and basically said "Hey, I wanna be a part of this no matter what">Nomura does base concept design and worldbuilding for entire year as one-man team>eventually does a lot of tough talk with Disney suits (he wants to make furry Sora with chainsaw as MC, Disney wants Donald as MC) but eventually gets most of stuff he wanted>proper development starts... except neither Square nor Disney JP bothered to ask Disney HQ about this entire project>eventually they realize the fuck way too late and send one poor nip to show KH to Eisner and ask for his approvalhttps://www.khinsider.com/news/Otocoto-reveals-history-of-how-Kingdom-Hearts-got-approved-by-Eisner-17299>eventually the project got full support of Disney (like providing voice actors and film production material) but also Disney got a much tighter grasp on the series after KH1
>>12845409Apparently Square and Disney of Japan shared the same office building in Tokyo, and the idea was pitched to a Disney exec in an elevator. The Final Fantasy games were successful and Disney just came off of their Renaissance Era and was making bank in the home media market
