>literally completely pointless to collect if you aren't getting 100% of themWhy was Super Mario Sunshine so poorly designed?
>>12844960Padding, trying to get the game out. But I wouldn't say completely pointless. It's fun to interact with, dare I say "play", video games you enjoy.
>>12844960wait until you find out that the entire game is pointless to play because it doesnt satisfy your innate human need to further your lineage by having children. how poorly designed!
It's just an awful game.
>>12844969furthering one's lineage by having children isn't satisfying all on its own. diapers, vomit, bills, health insurance, phone bills, entertainment, "will i make their award ceremony?", etc. don't be daft.
>>12844971being annoyed at simple things that trillions of people have tolerated over the course of human history doesnt change biology. Turn off the video games and impregnate a female.
>>12844962Some of them were fun to find. I liked figuring out that you could splash the blue birds to get blue coins from them. Was not nearly as interesting the fifth time I did it though. You can tell they ran out of good ideas for the blue coins pretty quickly. Like the green stars in Galaxy 2 or the moons in Odyssey, they're just going for quantity over quality.
>>12844975i didn't use the word "annoyed". i said furthering one's lineage by having children isn't satisfying all on its own. i'm going to use the word retarded since you are apparently incapable of understanding the word "daft"; don't be retarded. if you end up being retarded, i'll try "don't be a fucking moron".
>>12844982wasting time playing video games and doesnt even know english. Im the retarded one?
>>12845028oh, shit. it's worse than i thought. you're actually too stupid to understand what i'm saying to you. it's not a matter of moron-hood or moron-ness or retardation. you're genuinely in the double digit iq range. i make it a point to minimize my contact with such individuals as much as possible. goodbye.
the only thing crazier than nintendo somehow making the greatest 3d platformer ever on their first try is completely and inexplicably shitting the bed on their second try. ill never understand how this was the follow up to mario 64.>what if we threw the winning formula in the trash and gave mario a hose no one wasked for
Oh, you got a blue coin? Hold on and do nothing for a few seconds while you’re forced to save.
>>12844969>>12844971>>12844975>>12844982>>12845028>>12845038Weirdest fucking defense of Sunshine ever. Cubies are mental.
>>12845467yep. we all trooned out or chudded out. like at a smash tournament for a representative sample of the average cubie. it's an insane asylum out there. i think it was something with the games we played. i don't play gamecube games that much anymore but i apologize on behalf of my brothers and xisters. it's in our dna.
>>12844960...what? You collect ten and get a shine, keep collecting shines and you unlock new levels. Are you retarded? Are you incapable of doing a google search?
>>12844969All this time I thought I could be happy if Nintendo gave meaning to me, bing bing wahooing all over to find 100% of those blue coins... Why, why did nintendo make me do it?
>>12844962The blue coins were aggressively unfun, some of the worst "content" in any Mario game period.
>>12844960>Why was Super Mario Sunshine so poorly designed?because retard thought "WHAT IF MARIO WATER GUN" and then went and made that dumb ass shit
>>12845038hiding posts you dont understand is peak moron, thats hilarious.
>>12844969Life isn't just about passing on your genes. We can leave behind much more than just DNA. Through speech, music, literature and movies... what we've seen, heard, felt... anger, joy and sorrow... these are the things I will pass on. That's what I live for. We need to pass the torch, and let our children read our messy and sad history by its light. We have all the magic of the digital age to do that with. The human race will probably come to an end some time, and new species may rule over this planet. Earth may not be forever, but we still have the responsibility to leave what traces of life we can. Building the future and keeping the past alive are one in the same thing.
>>12846181>Through speech, music, literature and movies... what we've seen, heard, felt... anger, joy and sorrow...What of any of this are you leaving behind? Are you Steven Spielberg or something? What are you doing that will further your community toward the future?
>>12844975I like the idea of getting a girl pregnant, but I don’t like interacting with children and have zero interest in dealing with a baby.
>>12846181ai is going to make it impossible to leave a mark on the world in that way. in the future there will be nobody who believes in human expression or art having any meaning
>>12846217>in the futureShit is already like that now, look at all the people that completely lack critical thinking skills that eat up "media" like it's slop from a bucket. The latest FIFA (FC now, but you get what I mean) and CoD are always guaranteed to be blockbusters because no one thinks. People are already failing to conceptualize generative AI as a bad thing because they're not even aware of art being able to have meaning beyond acting as jingling keys to distract you while you wait for your doordash order to come in.
>>12844960I just started playing this. I fucking hate the mario controls already and im only like 3 shines in. Is it worth going through it?
>>12846194I view kids the same way as visiting a friend with a hyperactive dog. I can put up with it for the short amount of time I’m there, but then I’m glad to go home and not have that in my life full time.
>>12846257Not really. The game is entirely built around the FLUDD mechanics.
>>12845458The N64 was only really popular in the west, so I imagine bullshit like Sunshine and Wind Waker were attempts to get back the Japanese market. Probably thought 3D platforming was too hard for them or something, hence the jetpack.
This is like my #1 wishlist game to play, just because people are so divided on it. How can people be here shitting on it whilst I've seen others say it's their favorite Mario? The only reason I haven't played it is cause there's also that Sunburn mod, and I'm sure in like 3 months there will be a PC port too, so it's hard to tell if I should wait or see it for myself or just go with Sunburn and get it over with
>>12846289Just emulate it on Dolphin like a normal fucking person. You don't need 500 mods and muh QoL hacks to play it.
>>12846318>You don't needDon't I, though? It sounds like I do considering you're all complaining about it
>>12846181Agreed, Snake.
>>12846289No mods on your first playthrough. That’s just silly.
>>12846337Just watch a longplay on youtube if you don't want to actually engage with the game
>>12846386MAYBE I FUCKING WILL. ASSHOLEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBCf-jI3OF4
>>12844969I have a 1 year old and all I want to do is play games like Mario Sunshine now, completely unenthused by "RPG"s and boring FPS games. Does having kids change other people's taste in games?
>>12846434You just stop being impressed by animeshit as you get older. Also JRPGs fell off big time. WRPGs were always boring. You play one you play em all cause they're all D&D
>>12846289>want to play a game because people are so divided on it>immediately takes sides and determines that the game needs to be modded to be good despite knowing nothing about it.this modern generation really is the dumbest in history. never playing a game but knowing multiple fanhack names is just zoomer incarnate.
>>12846440I just really long for games I can just pick up and immediately start playing and having fun. Really enjoyed Astro Bot recently.I do not want to have to check my quest log and figure out where the fuck to go and listen to 20 minutes of an LA lesbian's fanfiction tier dialogue before I play some variation of dark souls combat or call of duty shooting in an ultra gritty realistic fantasy/scifi world.I've been playing incremental games a lot recently too, just quick easy simple plays.
>>12846447>complains the game is shit>no but you have to suffer like I did!unc...
>>12846467not only do you assume the game is shit just from reading random words on the internet but you assume what I think about the game too. Is your brain capable of generating anything thats genuinely you?
>>12846465don't fall for the trap. RPGs are a waste of time, but vampire survivor slop is not any better. But the sweet spot is right there inbetweenI recommend pic related, not retro though
>>12846249fc is a legalize form of gambling and appeals to that crowd. cod is a solid gameplay based experience in a world of boring ubislogs and cutscenes. cant really blame the zoomers there because thats all they know. i showed a codzoomer in my family a shmup once and he thought it was the best thing ever. if you're a kid born in 2010 or whatever it's entirely possible that fps is the only game you know thats allowed to actually have gameplay
>>12846249yeah normalfags will always be mindless consumers but in the future it will be even harder to find genuine stuff even as someone who cares since it will be lost in a sea of ai slop. you can vet people as having made stuff before ai now but 50 years from now itll be impossible. even the trillionaire pedophile class who historically would gatekeep art from the peasants abhors art on a conceptual level and goes out of their way to mock it and gloat about its destruction. so art probably is just completely dead forever now.
>>12846990there certainly are jews who abhor art, but unlike video games, music, books, and film are pretty reliably gatekept by critics. no serious critic would ever say harry potter is among the best books or flavor of the month capeshit is among the best movies, only in gaming critique do we have this problem where we equate box office to success. I've listened to critically acclaimed music and watched critically acclaimed films and they're reliably leagues better than critically acclaimed games.
>>12846181Kojima knew his audience was 99% white males, so of course the message was "don't procreate". Leftist cunt.
>>12848985Fucking retarded /pol/tard.
>>12844969I love this board because everyone is insane
>>12849309It wasn't like this four years ago.
>>12848985How's that Trump 2.0 working out for ya
>>12848992>>12849586They hated him because he >>12848985 was right.
>>12844960I think the same can be said about GTA III and Vice City's hidden packages, and of course they're poorly designed, because they're old games with technological limitations at the time so the devs did what they could to make the games just a bit less boring by giving you more things you can do.
>>12850095Not really. Every ten hidden packages is a new reward for the player at their home. Sunshine Blue Coins are just traded in for Shines, which don't affect progression like Stars did in 64.
>>12849586nta but pretty good, all the leftoid seething makes me feel alive
>>12850174Enjoy it for the next 3 months or whatever it is you have left
>>12844960I never really cared for Mario Sunshine, it sort of had a bit of a reevaluation window where people started talking about how they actually liked it, but it feels like it's starting to shift back into the other direction now that people have been playing it on Switch/2 with the rereleases and realizing that it is actually pretty shit.
>>12844962Galaxy has even more padding but people will ignore this
>>12850986Galaxy has like 6 hours of tutorializing. And another 6 hours of waggle gimmicks. It's one of the most overrated game out there.
>>12844971I'm having a great time as a dad. I'm in the best shape of my life. Crushed benching or by 15lbs and the kid is like "more pweeease" so I gotta go bigger. More reps. MORE weight. MORE PWEASE.
>>12850989are pc shooters waggle gimmicks because you use a mouse? filtered shitter.
>>12850346Not him but he has another two years.
The forced linearity of Sunshine is the most baffling decision. If levels were unlocked with Shines like in 64 with stars there would be a point to the blue coins other than 100% autism.
>>12852686Maybe on planet retard
>>12852694It's not baffling, each area has missions that build off the context of prior ones.
>>12844960sunshine is ok. it is sloppy for nintendo's flagship series but as far as general games go it just has some quirks. you'd need to be pretty sensitive for it to be intolerable to you.
>>12846181Lol what a fucking loser
>>12852694It's not baffling, the reason why they did it is obvious. The game was designed around being open with tons of shines and stages like 64, but was rushed out the door with a fraction of the content finished, so blue coins were created as a stopgap to still hit ""120"" shines and fool morons, while every shine outside of the main course 7 missions ones that had already been made with the intent of being valid for progression now held no purpose whatsoever.
>>12852694game journalism is really easy when your grading rubric is "Is it like one specific game? If not its bad">blue coins suck because they were only coins in mario 64>fludd sucks because there was no fludd in mario 64>no long jump sucks because mario 64 had a long jump but no long jump in mario sunshine?????????????????????????? why no long jump ?????????????? theres NO LONG JUMP IN MARIO SUNSHINE I CANNOT LONG JUMP
>>12852786The replacement for the long jump, a quick and snappy traversal tool, was a slow and clunky hover that trivializes most of the normal platforming in the game, forcing Sunshine's levels to be designed to try to circumvent one of Mario's basic movement options and feel downright bizarre in the process. Any time the developers wanted to have more normal level design, they had to take FLUDD away from the player, which makes the limited movement in comparison to 64 hit them r in the face and force even more direct comparisons. As it turns out, reinventing the wheel isn't going to be popular when the game feels worse in every way than its clear predecessor as a result.
>>12845458They did this with every one of their IP's in the 2000's it was truly a terrible time to be a nintendo fan.
>>12844962Most of the actual content is fun to play, but the campaign progression is fucked and obfuscates how you actually beat the game. Most first time players will have no idea why Delfino Plaza is suddenly flooded, and forced into the end game where you have to proceed to Corona Mountain. And then there's stinkers like the pachinko stage, the sand bird, the chucksters, or the toxic flume.Tracking down the one blue coin you're missing is also incredibly frustrating because there's no tracker indicating which ones you've found, which episodes have undiscovered coins, etc. Some are also incredibly unfairly hidden.Narratively, it's also fucked that the boathouse raccoons are hoarding 24 shine sprites that are vital for Isle Delfino's well being.
>>12845458The jetpack was fun though. I liked it. The vacation island setting was ugly, the story and characters were awful, the blue coins were generally anti-fun, and I guess I'd probably have ended up agreeing with some of the common complaints about the large-scale structure and the endgame if I'd stuck with the game for that long instead of rejecting it halfway through because I was so sick of its crap. But the jetpack was fun.
>>12852812>reinventing the wheel isn't going to be popularMario Sunshine is extremely popular. Also mario having a long jump isnt "the wheel" mario didnt long jump in the games before mario 64 either.
>>12853286>Mario Sunshine is extremely popular. In comparison to Mario 64's glowing reception past and future? Hardly. It's remembered fondly by those who were too young to have played 64 beforehand and that's about it.>Also mario having a long jump isnt "the wheel"Mario 64 laid the groundwork for a Mario game in 3D. It's very different in plenty of ways from the 2D games with several additions to Mario's once-basic moveset, to make him feel as natural and fun to control as possible. Sunshine decided that Mario's moveset needed to be basic again in order to give the FLUDD a reason to exist. After all, if Mario could punch enemies, spraying them would feel a little silly. Because it is.
>Sunshine thread>it's absolute unreadable dogshitsasuga
>>12852812>The replacement for the long jump...is doing a somersault immediately followed by a dive, and incredible powerful move that won't make you miss the long jump.
