Have Re/Decomps killed original hardware, remasters and emulation for good?
nah
hAvE dEcOmPs bLaH bLaHshut up
They could if every recomp had the ability to render the game at original native resolution and allows you to tweak filter/display settings for emulation of old monitors.I'm not against recomps but they very quickly stopped being special and at 60 fps and/or widescreen many of these recomps offer fundamentally different experiences; meaning that one who plays on original hardware probably can't discuss a game with someone who only played the enhanced recomp.
>>12846008Seeing how vibe coders abandon "their" decomps shortly after releasing and leave the problems in, no.
>>12846008yes.every time a decomp gets published an old console and its cartridges explode.
I don't even know what a decomp is, so it has no effect on my everyday life. Ignorance is bliss my nigga.
I don't touch fan made shit unless they are putting in the work to create their own original thing unrelated to tampering with something that already exists.
>>12846008No./thread
>>12846008No save states? I don't care
>>12846008remasters were never alive. As for emulation, nobody is going to decompile every single game that exists. Plus not all games require decompiling, many work perfectly in emulation.
>>12846056> emulation of old monitorsLiterally impossible. You can't emulate superior technology on lesser hardware.
>>12846008Ironically StarFox PC itself was killed on Github. Thankfully it got mirrored on GitLab, which is what every recomp/decomp project should do.
>>12846008They have. It's over.
>>12846008recomps are just AI emulators!
>>12846008Seeing as the vast majority of console games haven't been recomped for PC, no.
>>12846125and they will be unable to maintain them when their free claude bucks disappear
>>12846171Means the game was reverse engineered and ported to run natively on PC. Think kinda like a sourceport. Can actually be pretty damn cool, but not all of them are equal, and only a tiny amount of games get that treatment, fewer to a really great standard.
>>12846252Decomps are definitely not very necessary for most games, no.Like, I see the appeal in it for a game like Super Mario 64, where that game has a huge modding fanbase overall, so a proper PC port has a lot of practical utility. But VERY few console games have that situation going, and it's not going to be of any use for anyone if someone say, does one for Wild Guns (one of my favorite console games). Hypothetically it could rule, but custom content doesn't seem like it'd be very forthcoming, and it already emulates excellently (and apparently has a cool remaster, but I've yet to play it).
>>12846132An indian cryptominer and keylogger masquerading as a bsnes-plus widescreen mod that suspiciously can't hit consistent framerate can and will eventually destroy the target computer, so legit emulators (or any software for that matter) can no longer be used on that computer yes
"decomp got released bro!"*AI simply spliced the emulator directly into the ROM and turned it into an executable*every single time
Nope. Decomps allow for enhancements and some other cool things but they create a bunch of problems with code maintainability that emulators have already solved. hardware emulation allows for a slow buildup of improvements and better understanding of a console that eventually turns into something like SNE9X which will run pretty much any game on pretty much any device. Re/Decomps need to be maintained per game, and a lot of these devs are clearly not up to the task.
>>12846243baby needs his bottle
>>12846008>has AI coded garbage replaced original hardware? No and it never will. Kill yourself for even asking.
>>12849201Nah you just want AI emulators, Decomps are actually good, Recomos are not, they are AI emulators.
3D games can benefit from higher resolutions and better frame rates, for sure. For 2D games I don't know what the point is, unless you're going to modify the game in some way.BTW this isn't new or just an AI thing. Just previously it tended to be limited to the older games that were simple enough to reverse engineer manually.Augmentinel was a manually done recomp of the Spectrum version of The Sentinel. For Elite and Frontier:Elite 2 there was Elite: The New Kind and glFrontier. First Encounters had JJFFE and others. The Mercenary series: MDDClone
>>12849443Though I think some of these actually run the original code in an emulator, like Augmentinel
>>12848713Thats what a recomp is though.
>>12846008Only if you're such a sub-80 IQ monkey that think installing 100 executables (at 50x the size of the original game) is more convenient than installing an emulator
>>12846008You should be GRATEFUL.
