What Wipeout games are good?
>>
>>12847635
I really liked the psp games, all the ps1 games are really good too. I don't think you can really go wrong, maybe start with the first one anyway it's good.
>>
>>12847635
Literally all of them.
Purists might thumb their nose at Fusion, but it's still a ton of fun.

Yes but the faster classes require you to git gud and dominate the sidebrakes, not for the faint of heart

So you guys know Wipeout 3 Special Edition got converted to NTSC 30 fps AND 60fps / 100fps alongside LOD and draw distance fixes right? Because I didn't
>>
>>12848062
does it mess up with the physics?
>>
>>12848062
I beat the game on duckstation using forced 60hz and I think it fucked up the trigger for unlocking the hidden stages because a few of them were still locked for me.
>>
>>12848079
What if you use a cheat code to unlock?
>>
>>12848071
Haven't tried it myself, more keen on trying Wipeout 1 on retro achievements though
>>
>>12848071
>does it mess up with the physics?
Last time I tried it the vehicle acceleration was messed up at high frame rates.
>>
>>12848062
Even at 400% overclock + 8mb ram it struggles to run at stable 60fps
>>
>>12848141
Well, it runs better if you set the hack options (other than framerate) to stock

Plays nicely with the 60fps patch, it's much easier to hit an enemy with the plasma now. OTOH there are some rendering glitches, noticeable in P-Mar and Terminal, haven't tried the classic league yet.
And the emulator has hung up twice in loading screens. Overall the patch needs some extra tuning.
I'm rusty as fuck.

>Purists might thumb their nose at Fusion, but it's still a ton of fun.
Based.

Anyone who says Wipeout Fusion is bad should be regarded as a faggot.
>>
>>12847635
the psp one and wipe out 3 for the ps 1.
>>
>>12848062
where's the dreamcast port?
>>
>>12848263
not sure if it's intended but your clip has a sort of interlacing (or deinterlacing) effect that makes it look slightly more fluid than it is
>>
>>12847635
Technically the only "bad" game is Fusion where the original team was completely replaced by new people. I will even go as far as to defend Pulse as being a good (fun) game.
>>
>>12848362
There are still 30 Mario games that need porting first.
>>
>>12848385
cant they do native ports of snes games now
>>
>>12847635
Wipeout doesn't really have bad games besides Fusion, but there are a few bad releases
Wipeout 2097 on the Saturn is a shitty port. Pulse on PS2 is also basically unplayable not because of the game itself but because it has a bug that will randomly wipe your entire memory card.
Pulse PS2 does however contain some leftover development assets in a dummy file on the disc, including the master files for entire soundtrack as uncompressed WAV files.
>>

>master files for
WHO. CARES.

i do
>>
>>12848405
People who like the Wipeout soundtracks and would like to hear them in higher quality than literally any other option available?

>>12848141
No way this runs on real hardware.
>>
>>12848463
It says original hardware+Mister should cap at 30fps, which is still an extra 5 fps from the base game.
>>
XL/2097 is my favorite but they're all good to great. Just be warned that it can be hard to go back to the original Wipeout if you get used to the sequels because it doesn't let you scrape along the edge of the track. You pretty much come to a dead stop of you even brush up against it.
>>
>>12847635
All the ones on psx. I think Wipeout 3 is contendor for one of the best games of all time, at least from a presentation aspect
>>

Basically emulation from the hardware side, supposedly (that's what its ardent fans say) indistinguishable from real hardware.

Omega is fun
>>
First person view feels great with the 60fps patch
>>
>>12847635
I mean all of them. Yeah 1 is a little bit experimental and not as fleshed out as 2 and 3 and 64 but its still worth playing. Fusion is the black sheep but its not a bad game in matter of fact. The only real question is like which ones are the best ones. But I think all of them are basically good bare minimum.
>>
>>12847758
This. Every last one of them.
>>
>>12847985
Fucking cool mag cover anon ty
>>
I think the second PSP game has one of the most insane difficulties ever in a racing game. The rivals will rape you constantly and drive fast as fuck, finishing a race is quite difficult, let alone win it.
>>
>>12848643
Some of the best PSP games IMO.
>>
>>12847635
fun wo3 game:
2 player eliminator to 99 kills, driving backwards on the course only
>>
There's a /shmupg/ refugee who will make the thread completely unusable soon
>>
>>12848868
Is he the F-Queero guy?
>>
>>12848392
>Pulse on PS2
Its also stuck at 30fps but you can run it at 60fps when emulating
>>
The NegCon is a cheat for the PS1 games, W3 at least which is the one I play - just like in Ridge Racer, you get extra turning range on top of super quick initial turning, it's insane how much easier it makes this game. Even a normal controller configured as a NegCon on emulators will absolutely blast any records you've made with the dpad. Icaras goes from difficult to handle to a gentle walk in the park.
>>
>>12848994
So you're saying WO3 negcon turns better than analog?
>>
>>12848998
Yeah, normal analog is heavy and has a big dead zone on top of that, making small adjustments hard (this has been a constant problem with PS1 games in my experience). In NegCon mode you'll be astonished at how effortless and precise turning is, even the twisty sections.

Any of you guys tried AeroGuage? I tried it for the first time a bit ago and it's really cool. I love the physics and how good it feels to zip around corners.

I played the shit out of Wipeout when I first got my Playstation. I loved XL too but it felt kind of I don't know to put it, maybe colder and more serious? Since you didn't have the individual pilots with their unique livery and silly win/loss portraits. Which may have been the point since I think I remember a quote from a pilot in the manual talking about how it's turned into a bloodsport instead of pure racing by that time.

For me, it's the animated logos in the Wipeout 3 intro. The rolling Assegai letters and the Icaras butterflies are cute.

Incredible experience followed by pain.

Reduce the maximum lock range or you're gonna break your wrists
>>
>>12851034
Even with that on phantom the frequency you are adjusting your wrists will destroy you.

>>
>>12851052
I used to have wrists of steel due to a previous job but that was a long time ago :/
>>
For me the series peaks visually, mechanically, and even audibly, with 2097.

3 is just too smooth and polished. I preferred the rough edges and grit.
>>
>>12851150
2097 has the best course in the entire series in it so that makes sense.
>>
>>12851150
3 was way, way ahead of its time with the minimalist interface but I like the chunky look 2097 has a lot better. I also like the big bright weapons and flashy impacts. They feel pretty limp in 3.
>>
>>12851150
agreed
>>12851165
and you see the best course being...?
>>
>>12848141
>Even at 400% overclock + 8mb ram it struggles to run at stable 60fps
I found I needed a 600% overclock to maintain a stable 60fps
>>
>>12851404
>and you see the best course being...?
Everyone knows Gar D'Europa is the best track in the franchise.
>>
Is it worth playing the older ones?
>>
theyre all good but 3 ps1 is the best for sure
>>
>>12847635
The best is HD on PS3 because of the superior soundtrack and no modern trap music bullshit in the PS4 re-release but that isn't retro
2097 is definitely the superior of the PS1 games, the Saturn version isn't bad either and supports the 3D stick
>>
>>12851690
I generally prefer the PS1 games over the newer ones
>>
>>12851690
1 feels clunky as shit but the PC recomp lets you change the physics to 2097XL/3 mode. 2097 and 3 are great.
>>
>>12851735
Rather just play the PSP games in their original form than their remakes in HD Fury, since I think they left out alot of the best courses and I prefer the handling in Pure. Detonator mode is really fucking cool though.
>>
>>12851690
the first game has anons have said is quite barebones but if you havent played them before its a good entry point, there is a pc recomp came out last year which is good. 2097 and 3 are the the best in the series imo, i could never really get into the later games after the ps1 trilogy, the physics just never felt quite like wipeout to me, but they are still good games. I think generally people would say the ps1 games are the best though, there's a reason ballsiticNG exists after all.
>>
>>12849087
Never got how the boost was supposed to work in this game.
>>
>>12852119
pc recomp of wipeout 1 is not a good one to one replacement because the AI is broken and way easier than the ps1 version.
>>
>>12847635
Jet moto 2
