wtf? Why didn't anyone tell me the Sonic games on Game Gear were just as good as the mainline Sonic games on the Genesis/Master System?

Can't talk to the deaf
>>
>>12848704
It's been known anon.
>>
>the Game Gear version is comparable to the Master System version
whoa

The Game Gear was basically a portable Master System. The games are mostly the same except for the god awful screen crunch.
>>
>>12848704
If you go to /vr/ and state the game gear was practically a 12 bit system and far superior to the game boy, the tranny mod will ban you for being right
>>
>>12848704
can't see shit
>>
>>12848895
cheating chinks always trying to sell you the same shit twice
>>
>>12849063
When people bitch about Sonic games not giving you enough time to react to anything its literally true on the Game Gear. The are parts of 8-bit Sonic 2 that are borderline impossible without rote memorisation.
>>
>>12849072
The Master System was long dead in Japan and only had five more releases in NA by time the Game Gear came out. Even if you were in Europe the Game Gear versions of games were superior unless you modded your console to run games at the proper 60FPS.
>>
Based gamegear enjoyers. Have a bump.
>>
>>12848704
>just as good
I would not say this, they are definitely lesser games but still enjoyable
>>
>>12849061
That's not how bits work, dumbass.

>builds a 16-bit console that could play master system games using power base converters
>they made several versions of the base converters
>>The Master System was long dead in Japan
It's always great seeing the "japan didn't want master system" meme and getting absolutely nowhere with it despite ample evidence showing that it's an invention by schizos
>>
>>12848704
theyre fine enough but they dont really have the depth of the mega drive versions, the physics feel floaty and like you are going to fall through the floor at any moment
>>
>>12849061
> 12 bit system
People will just say the dumbest things and hit post.
>>
>>12849518
Yeah I thought they were ok, but definitely not as good as reading this tbread would lead you to believe.
>>
>>12849493
What I meant by "the master system was long dead" was that Sega stopped selling new games for it in Japan because the post I was responding to was talking about games being released concurrently on the Game Gear and Master System.
>>
>>12848704
>just as good as the mainline Sonic games on the Genesis
Sonic 1 8bit has one autoscroller level and one vertical level.

Are you sure about that?
>>
>>12849493
Funny how unlike the Super Gameboy, this was merely a pin switcher.
>>
>>12850272
BTW, why does SEGA refuse to re-release the SMS versions of Sonic's 8-bit entries? They're still pushing the same shitty GG versions to this day. Sonic 1 was the only okay GG conversion, since its level design was changed to account for the GG's smaller screen.
>>
>>12848704
Just finished Sonic 2 SMS on a tablet without a controller.
Oh my God. Suffers from a similar problem as the MD version with the last three levels being kinda bad. Still a fun game though. The final boss is ironically the easiest part of the game (if you fuck around in tubes and act quickly enough after the electricity part of his attack).
>>
>>12850272
It's not ideal but its not like it makes the game impossible. I prefer screen crunch over the slow speed. The Master System version on an NTSC console is the best way to play but that wasn't realistic for most people at the time of release.
>>
>>12850279
>Funny how unlike the Super Gameboy, this was merely a pin switcher
it was pretty nice

>>12850287
> why does SEGA refuse to re-release the SMS versions of Sonic's 8-bit entries?
probably rights problems. they were developed by yuzo koshiro's software business called ancients. sega may own the ip but when it comes to shit like sub-contracting it gets complicated. or sega/sammy are just utterly fucking lazy and don't see a market for it.
>>
>>12850576
It could likely be both. I know Ancient's still developing games, if Earthion is anything to go by.
>>
>>12850578
yep still developing software. still family run. that business of his was created just to make sonic. told sega he could develop games! (he could not lol).
>>
>>12850583
So the subcontract was built off of a lie? LOL, glad to know Ancient actually learnt some stuff. Beyond Oasis is one of their best games yet. (Haven't played the Saturn sequel, but I hear it's just as fun.)
>>
>>12850585
>So the subcontract was built off of a lie?
yeah kinda. yuzo had experience building software/audio drivers for jap computers and developing code for sega's hardware but that was the extent of it from what i can remember. sega wouldn't contract out an entire project to just one person so he created ancients as a business and hired his family, friends etc.
>>
>>12850591
Fascinating, so they're like an indie company? Really cool!
>>
>>12849493
It literally was though, Japan didn’t even get Wonder Boy III on a Master System cartridge. Support dried up the nanosecond the Mega Drive released.
>>
>>12850272
Still remember this bit pissing me off / freaking me out as a kid. Had no idea what was going on
>>
>>12850272
I beat this as a kid on GG. Probably one of my hardest gaming challenges. I died at the boss of the second world though
>>
>>12851128
>literally was though
you don't understand what the world "literally" means lmao

> Support dried up the nanosecond the Mega Drive release
oh of course it did, stupid dumbfuck. and sega producing sega master system 2 and games well into the mega drive's lifespan was just a collective hallucination. multiple versions of the powerbase were only made for 4 people in the world! fuck off, lying spastic.

AKA, shit that was only released outside of Japan. Please, stop embarrassing yourself.

Most Sonic games kind of suck to be honest. So I guess these are comparable to the other ones that kind of suck.

Master System got literally just 2 games in Japan after Mega Drive dropped. Two games. If you don't see how fucking terrible is that, you're retarded, period.

Because barely anyone likes the Game Gear
>>
The Gamecube was alive until late 2011 when Nintendo stopped making backwards compatible Wiis.
