Charming. The word is charming.

Ehh it's ok, not my thing but I can see the appeal. If I don't like stuff I generally don't make a thread about it. Nobody likes a negative nancy.

Looks fine to me

What is this aesthetic called?
It's common for games from the 3DO and CDi to have game backgrounds and sprites of generic scenery rendered by a total amateur in his first 3D modeling workstation. This weird blend of stark realism in terms of what is being depicted and surrealism due to the bad artwork.

They usually had really cheap menus and UIs too, like the quick placeholder UI they made never got replaced.

The "We got no budget" aesthetic

I hated the way 90s CG looked when I was a kid and it was just the technology of the time, but now I guess it's in a nostalgia bubble for me because I've really grown to like it.

means "I've never played these games on a CRT"

ff7 looks better than most examples regardless, it was a very expensive well made game.

I love the cheaply-made UI over photorealistic backgrounds aesthetic! Doesn't have to be prerendered!
Practically every CD game not on a Sega or Playstation console did it.

There's a kind of person who thinks all prerendered graphics looks bad because he's only experienced it through emulation on modern displays at several times bigger than the original resolution, and then downloads a 5GB AI slop mod to replace the backgrounds
>>
>>12850874
None of the examples besides FF7 look even remotely pleasing no matter what monitor you view it on. Pixelated shitty prerendered graphics aren't much worse than blended shitty prerendered graphics, since the problem is how amateurish and cobbled-together the entire game looks as a result.

That CDI tetris game has a phenomenal presentation. The opening movie has a black monolith ascending from the ocean, the tetris logo appearing on it, then that black monolith is the playspace over various real world scenery backgrounds (they're moving gifs too.)

The music is really good and chill, too, it's only an okay playing tetris but it's such a chill experience.

it has that odd early 3d rendering aesthetic in the background art
>>
>>12850874
There's also the kind of person who thinks most prerendered games look like shit because even when it was new and played on a CRT, SaGa Frontier still looks like dog shit no matter what.

Pre-rendered graphics are great.
>>12849870
I've seen way worse art than that. Shame on you.

Should've been third person shooter instead of melee combat.
